What Are Essences in Arknights: Endfield?

Weapon essences are stat boosting items that can be attached to weapons to improve their overall stats with the weapon stats being leveled from 1 to 9 for each of their available stats.

Each weapon can only equip one Essence at a time, and essences come in 5 different rarities denoted by color- Gray, Green, Blue, Purple, and Gold. The increase offered depends on the perks boosted and boost levels on the weapon essence. Each essence will have 2-3 perks with boosted levels being determined by the engrave level of the essence.

The goal of the system is to roll an essence with boosts matching all of the perks on the weapon you’re quipping it to. There are three sources for Essences: the main one is to farm them from Alluviums, the second is as a Random drop from enemies, and the third is by crafting using lower rarity essences.

Etching System

The essence system has a stat boosting aspect called Etching which allows you to increase the level of an essence stat. Etching is available on high level Essences at gold level, and requires a similar piece to etch. Etching will increase the level of one of the three stats on the gold essence. You can use an essence that doesn’t have a matching stat but the probability of success is lower, so typically it’s better to use essences that have at least one matching stat to the essence you’re looking to boost.

System Example

For an example of all of this, let’s take a look at the Forgeborn Scathe sword. The stat boosts on the sword are Intellect, Attack Boost, and Twilight. Because of this, we’re looking for an essence that has Intellect in the first slot, Attack % in the second, and Twilight in the third.

The third slot on the weapon is the major decider of which of the Alluviums you’ll want to pursue. In the case of our example above, Wuling City has the only Alluvium that can drop Essences with a Twilight focus and both of the other stats. That having been said, Twilight focused essences aren’t the only ones to drop from here, and which attribute focus and secondary stats the come on the Weapon are entirely random.

Potential Attributes

In terms of potentials attributes they’re broken down as follows:

  • Primary: Agility, Strength, Will, Intellect, Main Attribute
  • Secondary:Attack %, Heat DMG, Electric DMG, Cryo DMG, Nature DMG, Arts Intensity, Ultimate Gain, Arts DMG, HP Boost, Treatment Efficiency, Physical DMG, Critical Rate
  • Skill: Suppression, Detonate, Infliction, Pursuit, Crusher, Twilight, Combative, Brutality, Medicant, Fracture, Inspiring, Assault, Flow, Impetus

Engraving Essences

While the random roll of essences is a part of the games only gear chase, there’s a system in place to help be a big more deterministic called the Engraving System. Engraving requires a specific item called a Valley Engraving Permit which is only available from the stock redistribution terminal at a high cost.

The last thing to note is regarding the third skill boost on a weapon. While the primary and secondary stats of the weapon can have their minimum and maximum available boosts improved through increasing the weapons tuning levels, the third stat is only able to have its minimum and maximum improve through the potential system using duplicate weapon rolls to improve the original copy. Even if you have a really good high roll on the third stat, it may not be able to take advantage of that without potential nodes being enabled first.

In terms of the available maximium boosts available from drop or from etching, for Primary and secondary stats there is a maximum achievable boost of +6, while third stat slots have a maximum of +4

Tips To Maximize Farming

Who says a fight has to be fair? If you run power to the area and set up some turrets all around the Alluvium activation point, you can let your turrets do some of the heavy lifting for you. Some examples have even shown some people managing to turn them into AFK farms more or less through the use of turrets. Play your strategy correctly and you'll be able to farm your essences more efficiently!

Keep in mind that each run of Alluviums costs 60 Sanity per run, and with the amount of possible combinations, it might take you quite a few runs to get your chosen Essence. Thankfully you can use the leftovers to try and etch it to the max possible level, although that might take quite a bit of investment.
