What's the Move? #9 - Exploring the Catacombs

The first episode of WTM since the release of Kobolds & Catacombs, Aleco plays a "Big Spells Dragon Priest" deck full of brand of new cards.

Kobolds and Catacombs has hit the competitive ladder with a bang, bringing it with it an unprecedented number of impactful new cards. Some cards have come as huge surprises (Spiteful SummonerCorridor Creeper), others have been performing about as well as expected (DuskbreakerTwilight Acolyte), and all four of these powerful new KnC cards are featured in the deck I've had the most success with over the past four days - Sattelite's Big Spells Dragon Priest. The deck has a ton of play to it and never fails to produce difficult decisions and interesting situations, such as the one I found myself in here:

"What's the Move?" is now seeking viewer submissions for the future episodes. If you ever find yourself in a sticky situation on the ladder, please feel free to submit your plays, questions, and feedback to Aleco on twitter.

It was very obvious for me but that didn't make it worse :) And it always makes me happy to see a Jade Druid failing :)

Haha, I spent a while thinking whilst not bothering to look for lethal because of your preamble, and then saw it and thought you’d made a whole video with a missed lethal!

Had an odd experience with this deck today. After falling from rank 2 to 4, I got bored of Murloc Paladin getting destroyed by warlocks spamming taunts and spent quite a while considering how to build a spiteful summoner deck. I considered Call of the wild, doom, infestation and mind control but didn’t get to anything that I felt was viable. So I loaded up a miracle druid deck I’d seen savjz playing figuring it’d wreck those slow warlocks. First three games in a row I ran into this summoner priest deck and got destroyed by Turn 6 Tyrantus twice followed by Y’Shaarj the third game. Having never encountered or seen the deck before I was like whaaaat!??

Might have to give it a go tomorrow, guess they got a bit lucky but still seemed very powerful. I’d thought priest would struggle against fast decks without any controlling spells but I guess duskbreaker buys enough time to give it a good shot against aggro.

So can we expect that priest is now able to reach legend rank?

Anyway it's great to see a different deck and it looks really interesting :)

Well, wouldn’t say priest has had much difficulty with that lately! Plenty of razakus priests up there and some big priests.

Been playing the summoner priest deck the last few days. It’s a lot of fun. Stormed up from low rank 4 back to high rank 2 yesterday. Treading water today. Had some great games. Seems viable or even strong. Wouldn’t say there’s any terrible matchups, aggro can be tricky if you draw bad but that’s generally the case with most non-aggro decks. It’s relatively cheap too with no legendaries, though after my first few games I swapped out an archivist for zola (been waiting for an excuse to use zola since I dropped a golden one in my pre-purchase packs) as I find the second archivist is often just an 8 mana 4/7 which hurts pretty bad in control matchups like Taunt Warlock, guess occasionally I miss out on drawing an archivist as a result but zola can be very useful on stuff like drakonid and duskbreaker, and even on tar creeper in desperate times.

Best games so far were a 30+ min battle with big priest (where I happily found myself playing my last card in hand and deck of shadow word horror (tyvm rng) to do nothing against his last card on board (and hand and deck) of deathwing dragonlord and passing to win on fatigue) and a game against razakus priest in which in a desperate situation I played noggenfogger from free from amber with hilarious (and successful) results.

I saw the lethal immediately upon reveal of his hand, I’ve been playing priest and paladin for so long now that any health or attack altering effects are pretty much engraved into my brain when thinking on trades. Oddly I also saw the jade idol thing coming but I figured it wouldn’t be guaranteed lethal so it wouldn’t count.

Venture into the Witchwood for a new adventure: the Monster Hunt! If you need any help, we've got you covered!
The new PvE mode has been live for a few hours and our guide offers a first look into it!
The Monster Hunt went live earlier today as expected. You will immediately get a limited time quest to beat 10 bosses as the Tracker, followed by the same quest for the other three Monster Hunt heroes (Cannoneer, Houndmaster and Time-Tinker). In total, for these four quests you will receive four The Witchwood packs.
Pesty has been hard at work and has quickly written up a neat Monster Hunt guide. In it, you can find all kinds of Treasures you can get, as well as what you will be offered after each Boss. Each hero also has its own kinds of card buckets. Lastly, there is an order of Bosses: specifically which one(s) you can find at each step of your Monster Hunt! Soon, we should have separate pages with details for every Boss!
Feel free to share screenshots from your Monster Hunt adventure! Which boss did you find difficult? Which hero is broken? Any other useful tips?

This week's Tavern Brawl is a great way to try out some of the new cards from The Witchwood.

Looking for a chance to try out some of the new cards from The Witchwood? This week's Brawl, titled "A Witchy Recipe", features preconstructed decks for each class which are built around some of the less-played cards from the new expansion, including many of the new Legendary minions from the set.
Here are the names of some of the new cards you can try for yourself in A Witchy Recipe:
Druid: Hand-size with Witchwood Apple, Ferocious Howl, and Wispering Woods. Hunter: Midrange Dragon/Poison with Carrion Drake, Vilebrood Skitterer, and Emeriss. Mage: Elemental Minions with Book of Specters, Archmage Arugal, and Bonfire Elemental. Paladin: Even Paladin with The Glass Knight and Genn Greymane. Note: If you're looking for a quick win, this deck feels like the most powerful of the bunch. Priest: Odd Priest with Chameleos, Glitter Moth, and Nightscale Matriarch. Rogue: Echo/Burgle with Pick Pocket, Tess Greymane, and Face Collector. Shaman: Battlecry Shaman with Blazing Invocation, Zap!, and Hagatha the Witch. Warrior: Rush with Darius Crowley, Town Crier, and Woodcutter's Axe. Warlock: Self-damage with Blood Witch, Deathweb Spider. and Glinda Crowskin. As usual, the reward for A Witchy Recipe is one pack of Classic.

The team has finally responded to the community's concerns on the new Shaman legendary minion.
Two weeks after The Witchwood's release, Team 5 has addressed the issues surrounding Shudderwock. Its animation will go faster and it will cap at 20 Battlecries. Hopefully, it will be less of a nuisance now. Lifedrinker will also receive a bump on its animation speed.
I assume the fix will go live on April 26 along with the Monster Hunt.
      Jesse Hill
Recently, our players have had feedback regarding the Shaman card, Shudderwock. We understand that the length of its Battlecry animation and other animations spawned from its Battlecry can be frustrating. In a future update, we will be doubling the animation speed of Shudderwock’s Battlecry so it will lessen the impact on the overall pacing of your current Hearthstone match. In addition, the amount of Battlecries Shudderwock can reproduce will be capped at 20.
We will also be speeding up the animation of Lifedrinker for similar reasons.
Thank you for your feedback, and we’ll see you in the Tavern.
      Cheers!
