- Free single player adventures started with KFT, and I really think they started out on high note there. However, it seems like you guys have somehow managed to outdo yourself with the single player content each successive expansion . Larger focus on single player campaign or getting better?

Kosak: The missions team is relatively new. It has grown in numbers and gotten better. They experiment and redefine what single player is. There is a panel on single player missions on Saturday.

- When you look into these mission do you start their design process from a thematic perspective?

Kosak: Yeah, the main goal is to express the theme of the expansion. For example, Rastakhan's Rumble is about Nine epic teams that fight against each other. So we try to convey that fantasy in the missions.

- Seeing as HS is fundamentally played in a 2D space, what’s the secret to making successful graphics in effects that are visually compelling without distracting from the core gameplay experience of operating on a game board?

Chamberlin: Blizzard's main value is known to be gameplay-centric. The design process of these graphical effects is fantasy driven, they are there to make the gameplay more exciting and they are not too distracting. We want to show how cool and powerful a card is and make its idea come across clearly. We try to balance all of these, but mostly the graphics are centered around the mechanics.

We get to design these stuff quite late in the whole card creation process, meaning that what the card does is already fleshed out. The art team check with all the other teams like the sound and the design team.

Kosak: The board space is 2D, but everything else in Hearthstone is 3D.  In Rastakhan's Rumble, you will be able to summon a powerful Loa, monsters will pop out the board or chomp on your opponent. The game feels like it is coming to life.

- Have you ever thought of rotating the camera angle of Hearthstone to give it a truly 3D feel?

Chamberlin: We want to maintain the board game fantasy of "looking down at the box". The fixed camera is there to keep this illusion.

- Let's talk about in-game rewards. Adventures have given packs, random legendaries, card backs, and even heroes. What is the process of assigning rewards in single player campaigns?

Kosak: We want to be careful with this. Our main motivation is that the most rewarding part of the game is for players to face against other players. We don't want to give something too good so people feel that they have to play single player. However, single player missions still need to be fun and offer a reward so there is an incentive to play them. It's something we are constantly talking about.

- We have cards that swap hands, cards that swap decks: what's next when it comes to crazy effects? Could we swap boards or take control of our enemy's turn?

Kosak: We try to be not too mean with Hearthstone, apart from Azari, the Devourer but it's something you can see coming. There isn't something too over the top crazy in Rastakhan's Rumble, apart from perhaps Hi'reek (revealed in the Hearthstone: What's Next panel). There are definitely many kinds of crazy effects, for example, Whizbang the Wonderful is a bonkers card.

In Rastakhan's Rumble, we have some minions with interesting effects, the Spirits and the Loa. Spirits are build-around cards, they go well with the Loa. The Loa are going to feel very legendary.

Chamberlin: When you blow up those combos between Spirits and Loa, you will feel pretty rad!

Both: This set is all about winning with style and flashy cards. The Overkill mechanic also emphasises this thematic.

- Do the Spirits and the Loa interact graphically too?

Chamberlin: They don't have special interactions with each other. We wanted to play up the team spirit across the entire set. So they use the same colour palette, textures, visual elements. They are two parts of the same whole. It was fun playing up these class and team identities in this set.

- I have noticed the timing difference between the release of an expansion and the release of the single player adventures. Is that so players focus on the multiplayer?

Kosak: That's exactly it. We released simultaneously in Kobolds & Catacombs and players felt that they couldn't decide on what to do. We decided to space it out with The Witchwood. In Rastakhan's Rumble, you will only have to wait a week since the Christmas holidays are near the release.

- There is one new Hero card coming in Rastakhan's Rumble. What are your plans for Hero cards given that the Death Knights from Knights of the Frozen Throne will be rotating out soon?

Kosak: Thematically, they made sense for KFT and they may come back again. We don't feel that every class needs to have a Hero card.

- When you think about all of the animations and the graphics done for cards, do you feel that there is any weird origin story that needs to be told? Or something really challenging?

Chamberlin: Azari, the Devourer was a pretty big sequence. Curious Glimmerroot was pretty crazy too to get right. For this set, Loa are cool and different, pretty elaborate to make. Their animations took probably a day or two for most of them. Thankfully, there were a lot of references from WoW to borrow from.

- For our last question, what's your favourite little detail or perhaps Easter egg in Hearthstone?

Kosak: Sulthraze, which was shown on the reveal announcement, was the first ever epic weapon that I got in World of Warcraft. It was huge to see it in Hearthstone.

Chamberlin: I am super fond of flavour texts, they crack me up!

Kosak: There is a lot of trash-talking between the Troll champions in Rastakhan's Rumble and it is exciting to see how people receive this.

For more details check out our Battlegrounds guide.

Bob the Bartender has been hard at work keeping the tavern tidy for Hearthstone’s heroes, and it appears that the news has started to spread. Hearthstone Battlegrounds is about to add some extra chaos—and a few Explorers—with a new update coming to the mode today.
Sindragosa, Elise Starseeker, Brann Bronzebeard, and Sir Finley Mrrgglton are the latest heroes to enter the Battlegrounds. Each one comes with a new hero power to give you more options to push toward a first-place finish. Read on for details on these new heroes, as well as some additional updates coming to Hearthstone Battlegrounds.
Please note that these updates do not require an additional download.
      Heroes Entering the Battlegrounds
The following Heroes have been added:
      New Hero: Sindragosa

      New Hero: Elise Starseeker
NOTE: The "Recruitment Map" recruits a minion from your current tavern tier after upgrading Bob's Tavern.

      New Hero: Brann Bronzebeard

      New Hero: Sir Finley Mrrgglton

      Heroes Leaving the Battlegrounds
To make way for new challengers, the Heroes below have left Hearthstone Battlegrounds for the time being. We may see them return in a future update.
King Mukla Giantfin Millificent Manastorm Lich Baz'hial Balance Updates
      Minions:
Primalfin Lookout Moved from Tavern Tier 5 to Tavern Tier 4 Voidlord Moved from Tavern Tier 6 to Tavern Tier 5 Junkbot Moved from Tavern Tier 4 to Tavern Tier 5 Coldlight Seer Moved from Tavern Tier 3 to Tavern Tier 2 Developer comments: We wanted to buff both Demons and Murlocs, so we moved those minions down a Tavern Tier. Junkbot was a bit too strong for Tavern Tier 4 and often made it so mech players never had a good reason to upgrade to Tavern Tier 5. With these changes, we think the minion types are closer together in power level.
      Ranking System
We’ve made adjustments to the number of points given for first place. In the original system, you got 240 points for a first place on your first game, and 24 pts for a first place on your 150th (or later) game. Now, you will get 190 pts for a first place on your first game and 95 pts for a first place on your 150th (or later) game.
      Bug Fixes
Infested Wolf The Triple version of Infested Wolf has been moved from Tavern Tier 2 to Tavern Tier 3, consistent with its base form. Rat Pack The Triple version of Rat Pack has been moved from Tavern Tier 3 to Tavern Tier 2, consistent with its base form. Plant tokens spawned from Adapt effects are now Tavern Tier 1. Snake tokens spawned from Snake Trap are now Tavern Tier 1. Future Updates
As of today, we are planning our next Battlegrounds update for early December. Below is a brief preview of some of the things we’re working on.
We’d like to continue balancing minions and Heroes based on how they’re performing. We don’t have the changes solidified yet, but we’ll be watching things closely and will have more to say soon. We’d like to continue rotating new Heroes into the game while rotating some existing Heroes out. We have some recognizable faces we’re working to include in December. We have two new minions in the works that we’re currently planning to include in the December update: King Bagurgle, a brand-new card, and Floating Watcher, which you may recognize from the Goblins vs. Gnomes set. We have been working on the first iteration of the Stats feature, to give you more insight into your performance. We’d like to surface some fun stats, like how many Triples you’ve created, your top five Heroes by wins, and more. An updated version of Stats will be available next year.

The latest update to Hearthstone comes with optimizations to improve performance while playing Battlegrounds on devices with fewer than 2GB of RAM, some balance changes, and various game fixes.
The team is overall happy with how Battlegrounds were received and there will be new heroes and minions live within the game with the next update.
The developers are also working on an advanced stats screen, leaderboard updates, and allowing minions to be sold directly from your hand (coming early next year).
Check out our Battlegrounds guide to learn more about the new mode!

      Hi all,
We’re in the process of releasing a new update, which is now live on PC and rolling out over the next few hours on mobile operating systems. This update contains a variety of optimizations to improve performance when playing Battlegrounds, especially on devices with fewer than 2GB of RAM. Please note that players on devices with lower memory may still experience degraded performance.
As a note for iOS users, please ensure you have updated to the latest version of iOS to receive the greatest performance increase from these optimizations.
There were some balance changes that we identified based on our initial testing that didn’t quite make it in for release, so we’re making those live with today’s update.
      Balance Changes
Minions Mama Bear Changed from 5/5 giving +5/+5 to 4/4 giving +4/+4 Kangor’s Apprentice Changed from 4/8 to 3/6 Hero Powers Infinite Toki Temporal Tavern Changed from 1 cost to 2 and now reads “Refresh Bob’s Tavern. Add a minion from a higher Tavern Tier.” King Mukla Bananarama Changed to “Passive Hero Power: Whenever you buy a beast, add a Banana to your hand.” Lord Jaraxxus Bloodfury Hero power changed from 3 cost to 2. Game Fixes & Improvements
Squelch now works as intended + no longer causes crashes under certain circumstances Daily Quests can now be rerolled Hallow’s End Arena Daily Quest can now be completed A variety of Android crashes have been fixed Memory optimization for Battlegrounds for devices with less than 2GB of RAM We’re aiming to make updates fairly regularly – every month or so, or perhaps a little faster. We’ll have more information on future updates over the next few weeks.
While I’m here, I wanted to talk a bit about Battlegrounds and what we’re seeing and feeling since we launched in beta last week.
Overall, we’ve been thrilled by the response players have had to Battlegrounds, and we’ve been closely watching the feedback coming in. We’re continuing to work on a variety of things coming in the future, but I’d like to call out to a few of them. Please note all of this is future-looking – none of this is getting added quite yet.
      New Heroes and Minions!
We’ve been cooking up some new heroes and minions, and we’ll be making them live within the game with our next update. We don’t want to say too much right now, but a couple of very familiar faces will be included.
      Stats!
We know the amount of gameplay information that informs how players are performing is limited right now, and we are already hard at work on an advanced stats screen that will be available in the next update. We’ll have much more detail soon, but expect things like your top 5 heroes by wins, most played heroes, how many first place finishes you’ve completed, and more.
      Leaderboard Updates
We want to give players more useful information about their opponents so they can make more informed gameplay decisions and build more complex strategies. On the left-hand leaderboard we’re going to be adding some addition information on the minion types that your opponents have. For example, you’ll be able to see that one of your opponents currently holds three murlocs and two demons.
      The Selling Experience
We want to make some improvements to how minions are sold, allowing minions to be sold from your hand. We think this will make it into the game some time early next year, and we’ll have more updates on how that is progressing, especially if we think it will come later than January.
Open Beta begins tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 12th @ 10am PT! We hope to see you all in the Tavern!

Some players were experiencing issues after matches have concluded, and as a result, Tavern Brawl has been temporarily disabled. They're planning to bring it back tomorrow.
      Blizzard (Source)
We’ve temporarily disabled the Tavern Brawl mode and expect it to return tomorrow, Thursday the 14th. Some players were encountering some issues after matches have concluded, and these were serious enough that we wanted to take the mode down entirely.
We’re planning to bring the mode back tomorrow and will be rotating in a different Tavern Brawl for the rest of the week. We’ll provide an update at that time to let everyone know that the mode has been enabled again and give you a heads up of what Tavern Brawl we’ve rotated in.

      Blizzard (Source)
      Hey Folks,
In the latest 15.6 patch, Battlegrounds was launched into Early Access. Unfortunately, some bugs also made it into the live game, and the team has been hard at work making sure these get fixed as quickly as possible. Here’s a status update on things:
On Monday (or potentially Tuesday), we’re aiming to ship a 15.6.2 patch that will include the following:
Squelch working as intended + no longer causing crashes under certain circumstances Daily Quests can now be rerolled Hallow’s End Arena Daily Quest can now be completed A variety of Android crashes have been fixed Memory optimization for Battlegrounds for devices with less than 2GB of RAM Here are some things that have been resolved with a server patch (meaning you don’t have to download it) that’s already live:
Spells now trigger Overkill effects Sathrovarr can now no longer target enemy minions with its Battlecry New Daily Quests can be obtained Big Boss Battle Quest can now be completed by just playing two matches and should only be accessible by players with Battlegrounds access The team is continuing to investigate the following issues:
Login issues Friends List appearing empty Decks missing cards / appearing incomplete Samsung Galaxy Note devices not being able to use the phone’s S-Pen stylus Unable to re-add a card back into a deck (workaround: remove the ghosted card and then attempt it) If you encounter other problems, please let us know in the comments below. We appreciate you bearing with us and we’re sorry for the rockiness. Once we have info on the remaining issues, we’ll be sure to update this thread.
      Cheers,
