Targeted Corruption Effects and Faster Cloak Levelling

Recommended Posts

Blizzard is working on updates to the game that focus on power progression. This includes more items purchasable for Echoes of Ny'alotha, targeted Corruption effects, and easier cloak levelling. The plan is to roll this out in the coming week. Read on for details!

UPDATE #2: The system is now live on US realms!

UPDATE:  The Corruption Effects Vendor has been delayed. Blizzard is also working on enabling re-corruption clensed items. You can find more information here.

Blizzard is not extending the 100% reputation buff as pointed out by Game Director Ion Hazzikostas, and instead, we're getting updates to the game that focus on power progression of new level 120 characters.

Blizzard Logo(Source)

We’re working on an update to the game that we expect to roll out in the coming week. We plan to make improvements to the process of obtaining Corrupted items on max-level characters and also streamline upgrading the legendary cloak Ashjra’kamas.

Our goal with this update is to speed up the power progression of new level 120 characters, while giving established endgame players more agency in pursuing the Corruption effects they most desire.

More Echoes

In our last update, we added Echoes of Ny’alotha, a new currency available from most Visions of N’Zoth content, which can be used to directly purchase Rank 3 Essences that have already been unlocked on a different character. We plan to expand the availability and purpose of this new currency. Now, once any character completes the legendary cloak questline, they will immediately begin earning Echoes of Ny’alotha from all of the usual sources.

Echoes of Ny’alotha will be much more abundant than before. As we expand the usefulness of Echoes of Ny’alotha, we want to ensure that players who haven’t felt the need to accumulate them don’t feel disadvantaged, so we will be increasing both the droprates of Echoes and their costs by a factor of 5. This means that when these changes take effect, a Major Assault will award 625 Echoes, up from 125. The cost to purchase an Essence will also increase by the same factor, from 500 to 2500 Echoes.

If you are planning to purchase a Rank 3 Essence with Echoes of Ny’alotha that you’ve already earned, you should do so now, before these costs change.

Improving Ashjra’kamas

We’re also reducing the requirements for any quest step in upgrading the cloak from Ranks 1 to 15 that previously required multiple Horrific Visions. Each Rank can now be achieved in a single Horrific Vision. For example, upgrading your Rank 13 cloak to Rank 14 will now require 2 Torn Page of The Final Truth" Torn Page of "The Final Truth" (was 6), so if you’re currently in possession of 2 or more pages, you’ll turn them all in and immediately complete that quest. The following quest to upgrade from Rank 14 to 15 will then require that you go get 2 more new Torn Pages (was 8).

The requirements for further minor upgrades to the cloak after Rank 15 with Malefic Core Malefic Cores have not been changed.

MOTHER will also offer Vessel of Horrific Visions Vessels of Horrific Visions in exchange for Echoes of Ny’alotha, providing an additional source of access to Horrific Visions that does not require completion of Assaults.

Choosing Your Corruption

In addition to any unlocked Essences, MOTHER will now also offer several new Preserved Contaminants, which allow for a specific Corruption effect (and the associated Corruption penalty) to be applied to a selected item. The inventory of available Preserved Contaminants will change twice each week, mirroring the Assault cadence, and will cycle through all available Corruption effects at various levels of potency.

You can use a Preserved Contaminant to apply the Corruption you purchased to any uncorrupted item that can be Corrupted, much like an enchant. Here are some sample costs for MOTHER’s updated offerings:

Item Cost (Echoes of Ny’alotha)
Vessel of Horrific Visions Vessel of Horrific Visions 1750
Rank 3 Essence 2500
Masterful I 3000
Siphoner I 4250
Twilight Devastation I 6250
Siphoner II 6300
Ineffable Truth II 6750
Racing Pulse III 7875
Echoing Void III 12000
Twilight Devastation III 15000

Important Notes

We highly suggest that you purchase any Rank 3 Essences that you want and can afford as soon as possible.

Due to a technical limitation, items that were cleansed before this update cannot be re-corrupted. New items can be cleansed after this update and then re-corrupted.

All of the previous ways that Corrupted items and Vessels can be acquired are still in place. The changes above are meant to supplement those sources and provide you with more options and control in pursuing your goals.

So... if there were no essences you could purchase, your character didn't earn currency.  So my main, who had almost everything you could earn and can use specific corruptions, has next to no Echoes.  That's messed up, Blizz.

Dont increase the Essences cost, and it should be alright. *filtered* they can’t do one thing properly 😕

also TD 3 is 15k that’s 24 major assaults, wtf do they want players to have fun or grind till shadowlands 😕

They are increasing drop by 5 from all sources...meaning that from LFR you will get not 25 but 125, from horific vision 50before 250now from main chest and 125 from other chests meaning you can get 750 for 1 run and you chan do as many runs as you want(if you have vessesls ofc).

You will not buy it immediaetly but still prety fast if you put some effort 🙂 (500from lfr,750 from vision, 2x 625 from assault = 2500 from doing this once + M+ and BG...should be doable in 2-3weeks...in one week for "no lifers" 😄 )

Geting rank3 essence is prety easy with echoes and nothing is changet in that way. Ofc i would like to get them faster..like a lot of other ppl, but on other side it would be 2easy and feel like boost where you have nothing to do and get things for free

Here I made something. Well, life is hard, you actually have to play to get things :( :( :( :(

Approximatively, 10k per week, well... Is clearly a good thing for a "targeted" corruption. Please stop whining, for once, they do something good.

Plus, 15k is for deva R3, and from what i've calculated, it's something like 200-300 per corruption level (Depending the corruption), wich means a rough 6k for 12% stats (300/corru) wich are way better for most of the classes, and using a deva R3 on a piece (75 corruption) is enough to use it with other corruption ppl already have.

Thanks for doing the work so people don't have a leg to stand on with the usual "Blizzard ruins everything" mantra.

This is such crap. I been working for ever just to get past rank 12. And now you can get to 15 super fast. Why bother grinding your but off for months when they change it in a day. They do this so they can get more players. Come on blizz.

It also means you can get Rank 15 cloak asap (the grind post rank 12 is the worst by far) and still have time to get some alts up 🙂

Gladiator's Distinction is a set bonus that comes from equipping two PvP-specific trinkets in Shadowlands. Blizzard has recently buffed it on the Beta to increase the damage and healing benefit of Versatility from 20% to 40%.
Gladiator's Distinction - The damage and healing benefit of Versatility is increased by 20% 40% when in Arenas, Battlegrounds, and War Mode. If you equip two PvP trinkets in the Shadowlands, the damage and healing benefit of Versatility while in Arenas, BGs, and War Mode increases by 40%.
The return of PvP vendors in Shadowlands was a bit problematic from the beginning. First, the vendor was missing gear with specific secondary stats, forcing PvPers to do PvE to get optimal gear.
PvP gear is further upgradable with Honor/Conquest points, but a PvP item upgraded to the max had the item level equivalent to Mythic+0, which is simply unacceptable given how much time/effort you put in it. Later in Ion's dev update, we found out the team evaluated the secondary stat distribution on gear and the addition of set bonuses, and here we are.
You can obtain trinkets with the following effects from PvP. Note that they come in addition to Gladiator's Distinction.
Gladiator's Badge - Increases primary stat by 252 for 15 seconds. (2 min cooldown) Gladiator's Emblem - Increases maximum health by 0 for 20 seconds. (1.5 min cooldown) Gladiator's Insignia - Increases primary stat by 106 for 20 seconds. Gladiator's Insignia - Your spells and abilities have a chance to grant 106 primary stat for 20 seconds.

Well, it seems we finally got the the definitive answer to the age old-question of "Where's Mankrik's wife?" The most commonly asked Barrens chat question from Vanilla and Classic has been answered many times on a literal level, as in the "Beaten Corpse" is North of Camp Taurajo, but in the Shadowlands beta, as discovered by Wowhead, we now also got an answer to the more spiritual question of where she ended up after that!
It seems she was quite the fighter in life before those Quillboar got to her, as she has been sent to Maldraxxus and even got herself a fancy new title!

She's standing in front of a dwelling in the Burning Thicket (western end of Maldraxxus), an insect infested place where she keeps killing more and more Ranishu creatures that come in from the thicket. She even has a very specific comment about them, which is also a callback to the original quest from Vanilla:

In case you're not familiar with the reference, her location became one of the bigger memes in Vanilla, as the Lost in Battle quest in which Mankrik asks you to find her was notoriously difficult, as she was fairly well hidden and her body was actually named "Beaten Corpse" and so many, MANY players asked for help. As you can imagine, the answers were helpful only some of the time, and so a meme was born! In the Cataclysm Barrens revamp the quest was removed, but a monument was added, where we initially found out her name, which is why we can recognize her now!

We're definitely hoping to see more of her in the Shadowlands, although it seems to just be an Easter egg/cameo appearance, but a pretty damn good one at that. And, for those of you planning to play or currently playing Classic, here's her other location, on Azeroth:

Ghostcrawler, former Lead the Systems Designer for World of Warcraft, shared some more thoughts about WoW on Twitter now that he's returned back to the game as a player.
Greg started playing a Warrior and picked Mists in Chromie Time. Ghostcrawler said the dev team strived to fix the weird time streams with Chromie for years, and he's glad the team used it to alternate leveling experiences.
Placeholder for tweet 1319697150335279104 He thinks the Alliance MoP intro didn't feel epic and the Horde battle was added hastily designed. He still loves Jade Forest.
Placeholder for tweet 1319697626661441536 Greg went Fury, which probably wasn't a great decision at low levels.

Placeholder for tweet 1319699300692103169 Placeholder for tweet 1319699894773297152 Greg also tried leveling his Priest that he hadn't touched since the Siege of Orgrimmar raid. He doesn't remember how she looked like, but the new customization options altered her beyond recognition.
Placeholder for tweet 1320407749591666688 Placeholder for tweet 1320408400698638336 Ghostcrawler found the current Profession system and skill-ups confusing.

Discipline lost many heals, for instance. He wants to level up as Disc in dungeons, but he's sure players won't be too patient for folks learning, and the learning curve is quite steep.

Placeholder for tweet 1320413715225669632 The final question is rather rhetorical, and Ghostcrawler asks himself if he'll raid hardcore in Shadowlands, which means saying goodbye to PS5 games that are about to launch.

Belgian cosplayer Hartigan, the creator of the awesome-looking Bolvar Fordragon costume, is back with another treat. He made Bolvar's hammer from EVA foam, foam clay, and 700 hundred RGB LEDs, and it took him 10 days.
Here is the costume if you have not seen it yet.
Placeholder for tweet 1317869403363573767 Additionally, Hartigan also crafted Bolvar's weapon, and 120 hours of work went into the hammer!

Two speedrunners have been going over their routes for the fastest way to get from level 10 (Allied Race start point) to 50 and have come up with some new moves! Harldan first changed things up from previously established routes and got a record time of 5 hours and 44 minutes on Horde side. He also made a video guide for the route that we'll also be taking a look at, but his record was broken a little earlier today by none other then DesMephisto, as he managed to shave another 10 minutes  off it, getting to 5H35M! Apparently he ran into some bugs as well which cost him some time, and he's estimating he could have gotten another 10 minutes off the time without them.
DesMephisto's route was a little different from the guide we'll check out below, basically going Silverpine forest until level 20, Hillsbrad Foothills to 32, Gorgrond 40, back to the WoD intro 'til 42, a few bonus objecives in Frostfire Ridge, Talador til 46 and then Spires until just near the end, with the finale in Gorgrond with a whole lot of Prove Your Strength quests!

The new route that sparked these two new records was from Harldan, and he went into a lot of detail on it's specifics, both in the below video and reddit post:

And here's the actual run for the above route:
      Source.
