Lan Yan Guide & Best Builds

Welcome to our Lan Yan build guide for Genshin Impact. Lan Yan is a powerful 4-star Anemo support Character known for her powerful Shield. In our guide, we'll cover everything you need to know to get the most out of your Lan Yan, from building the best Artifacts and Weapons to important stat priorities and rotations.

Best Weapons for Lan Yan

Listed below are Lan Yan's best weapons. While weapons are listed in a priority order, what's best to build on your Lan Yan can vary depending on the team composition and level of investment you want to put into Lan Yan.

Angelos' Heptades

Crown of the Final Scion

Base ATK: 741

ATK: 16.5%

ATK is increased by 12% / 15% / 18% / 21% / 24%. After the equipping character creates a Shield, they gain "Pathfinder's Light" for 20s: Increases your active party member's DMG by 10% / 13% / 16% / 19% / 22% for every 1,000 ATK the equipping character has, up to a maximum of 26% / 34% / 42% / 50% / 58%. Additionally, when the equipping character creates a Shield, they will also gain "Guide's Contentment": Restores 14 / 15 / 16 / 17 / 18 Elemental Energy to the equipping character. The aforementioned effect can trigger once every 14s, and can also be triggered when any type of chest is opened outside of combat. The equipping character may trigger this effect even when they are an off-field.
Hexerei: Secret Rite: When your own Hexerei character is off-field in the party, they will also gain 50% of the DMG increase from Pathfinder's Light.

Lan Yan's best and most recommended weapon, providing a great DMG % buff to your active character. The massive Attack it provides will also make her Shield much stronger.
Starcaller's Watch

Offering Unto Wind and Sun

Base ATK: 542

Elemental Mastery: 265

Increases Elemental Mastery by 100 / 125 / 150 / 175 / 200. Gain the "Mirror of Night" effect within 15s after the equipping character creates a shield: The current active party member deals 28% / 35% / 42% / 49% / 56% increased DMG to nearby opponents. You can gain the "Mirror of Night" effect once every 14s.

Another great buffing weapon Lan Yan can use, providing a similar DMG % buff to Angelos' Heptades.
Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers

Heritage

Base ATK: 401

HP: 35.2%

When switching characters, the new character taking the field has their ATK increased by 24% / 30% / 36% / 42% / 48% for 10s. This effect can only occur once every 20s.

Lan Yan's go-to free to play weapon, providing a good ATK % buff to your active character. The low base Attack is not good for her Shield, but the Shield will still be decently strong.
Hakushin Ring

Sakura Saiguu

Base ATK: 565

Energy Recharge: 30.6%

After the character equipped with this weapon triggers an Electro elemental reaction, nearby party members of an Elemental Type involved in the elemental reaction receive a 10% / 12.5% / 15% / 17.5% / 20% Elemental DMG Bonus for their element, lasting 6s. Elemental Bonuses gained in this way cannot be stacked.

This can be a good buffing weapon for Lan Yan in Electro teams, but she'll need to be swapped in multiple times in the rotation to have good uptime on it.
Favonius Codex

Windfall

Base ATK: 510

Energy Recharge: 45.9%

CRIT Hits have a 60% / 70% / 80% / 90% / 100% chance to generate a small amount of Elemental Particles, which will regenerate 6 Energy for the character. Can only occur once every 12s / 10.5s / 9s / 7.5s / 6s.

Although this weapon doesn't provide any buffing, it still provides great support via the energy particles it makes. This can be great for teams with higher energy requirements. You will just want to ensure Lan Yan has a decent amount of Crit Rate for consistency.
Skyward Atlas

Wandering Clouds

Base ATK: 674

ATK: 33.1%

Increases Elemental DMG Bonus by 12% / 15% / 18% / 21% / 24%. Normal Attack hits have a 50% chance to earn the favor of the clouds, which actively seek out nearby opponents to attack for 15s, dealing 160% / 200% / 240% / 280% / 320% ATK DMG. Can only occur once every 30s.

High Attack 5-star stat stick Catalysts can be used to make Lan Yan's Shield stronger. Options like Cashflow Supervision can also provide CRIT if you want to build Lan Yan for damage as well.
Oathsworn Eye

People of the Faltering Light

Base ATK: 565

ATK: 27.6%

Increases Energy Recharge by 24% / 30% / 36% / 42% / 48% for 10s after using an Elemental Skill.

This weapon is a good stat stick for both ATK and Energy Recharge. However, if you do not already have this weapon, it can no longer be obtained.
Prototype Amber

Gilding

Base ATK: 510

HP: 41.3%

Using an Elemental Burst regenerates 4 / 4.5 / 5 / 5.5 / 6 Energy every 2s for 6s. All party members will regenerate 4% / 4.5% / 5% / 5.5% / 6% HP every 2s for this duration.

Although Lan Yan doesn't care for the HP% this weapon provides, the healing can be useful.

Best Artifacts for Lan Yan

Viridescent Venerer

Viridescent Venerer

2-Piece Set: Anemo DMG Bonus +15%

4-Piece Set: Increases Swirl DMG by 60%. Decreases opponent's Elemental RES to the element infused in the Swirl by 40% for 10s.

As an Anemo support unit, this set allows her to provide good buffing with the RES Shred. She should use this set in any team with a Pyro Hydro Electro or Cryo DPS.
Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City

Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City

2-Piece Set: When a nearby party member triggers a Nightsoul Burst, the equipping character regenerates 6 Elemental Energy.

4-Piece Set: After the equipping character triggers a reaction related to their Elemental Type, all nearby party members gain a 12% Elemental DMG Bonus for the Elemental Types involved in the elemental reaction for 15s. If the equipping character is in the Nightsoul's Blessing state when triggering this effect, all nearby party members gain an additional 28% Elemental DMG Bonus for the Elemental Types involved in the elemental reaction for 20s. The equipping character can trigger this effect while off-field, and the DMG bonus from Artifact Sets with the same name do not stack.

If using Lan Yan in a team where Viridescent Venerer is of no use, Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City is a decent support set she can use instead. She can't provide the full 40 DMG %, but the 12% is still of use.
Noblesse Oblige

Noblesse Oblige

2-Piece Set: Elemental Burst DMG +20%

4-Piece Set: Using an Elemental Burst increases all party members' ATK by 20% for 12s. This effect cannot stack.

Another viable support set Lan Yan can use if not using Viridescent Venerer. However, the buff only activates after casting Lan Yan's Elemental Burst, which she generally doesn't use every rotation.
Golden Troupe

Golden Troupe

2-Piece Set: Increases Elemental Skill DMG by 20%.

4-Piece Set: Increases Elemental Skill DMG by 25%. Additionally, when not on the field, Elemental Skill DMG will be further increased by 25%. This effect will be cleared 2s after taking the field.

At Constellation 1, Lan Yan has surprisingly high damage multipliers on each of her Skill casts. In teams where Viridescent Venerer isn't useful, Golden Troupe can be used instead to improve her damage.

Lan Yan's Stat Priority

Sands of Eon: ATK %
Goblet of Eonothem: ATK % or Anemo DMG %
Circlet of Logos: ATK % or CRIT
Substats: ATK % > CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG

Lan Yan's Shield scales off ATK %, so her main and substats should prioritize this. If you want to make her Skill do more damage, CRIT Circlet and substats can be focused on as well. Anemo can be used for the Goblet as well if trying to maximize damage.

Recommended Stats for Lan Yan

Build recommendations assume a "decently built" level of artifact rolls alongside Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers. Using other weapons may increase or decrease certain stats relative to these recommendations.

HP: 17,000-19,000
ATK: 2200-2400
CRIT Rate: 40-55%
CRIT DMG: 85-110%

Lan Yan's Talent Priority

Talent Priority: Swallow-Wisp Pinion Dance >>> Lustrous Moonrise >>> Black Pheasant Strides on Water

Lan Yan's Elemental Skill is where her Shield scales from, as well as the vast majority of her damage, so it should always be prioritized. Her Elemental Burst can deal decent damage, but it isn't always used due to field time and energy requirements, so it doesn't need to be leveled much if at all. Her Normal Attack talent is not an actively used part of her gameplay, and can be ignored entirely.

How to Play Lan Yan

Lan Yan has a simple playstyle - cast her Elemental Skill to create her Shield, buff with Viridescent Venerer, and deal some damage, then swap out. Her Elemental Burst can also be used when available for the C4 Elemental Mastery buff, plus decent grouping and damage. However, it's not worth using every rotation due to the field time and energy requirements.

Lan Yan's Best Constellations

Lan Yan does not need many Constellations to function properly, as her first two are the strongest.

"As One Might Stride Betwixt the Clouds"(C1) effectively doubles the damage of her Elemental Skill, while giving it more Elemental Application as well. "Dance Vestments Billow Like Rainbow Jade"(C2) allows her Shield to be healed by Normal Attacks, tremendously increasing the total effective Shield size.

"With Drakefalcon's Blood-Pearls Adorned"(C4) gives her an Elemental Mastery buff, but it is small and requires her Elemental Burst, which she doesn't use every rotation, so you won't be missing out on much by not having this.
