Lyney Guide & Best Builds

Welcome to our Lyney build guide for Genshin Impact. Lyney is a 5-Star Pyro Main DPS Character who deals powerful damage through his unique Charged Attacks and Mono-Pyro scaling. In our guide, we'll cover everything you need to know to get the most out of your Lyney, from building the best Artifacts and Weapons to important stat priorities and playstyles.

Best Weapons for Lyney

Listed below are Lyney's best weapons. His signature weapon is naturally his best-in-slot, but he has several highly competitive 5-Star and 4-Star options that cater to his Charged Attack playstyle.

The First Great Magic R1

Parsifal the Great

Base ATK: 608

CRIT DMG: 66.2%

DMG dealt by Charged Attacks increased by 16% / 20% / 24% / 28% / 32%. For every party member with the same Elemental Type as the wielder (including the wielder themselves), gain 1 Gimmick stack. For every party member with a different Elemental Type from the wielder, gain 1 Theatrics stack. When the wielder has 1/2/3 or more Gimmick stacks, ATK will be increased by 16%/32%/48% / 20%/40%/60% / 24%/48%/72% / 28%/56%/84% / 32%/64%/96%. When the wielder has 1/2/3 or more Theatrics stacks, Movement SPD will be increased by 4%/7%/10% / 6%/9%/12% / 8%/11%/14% / 10%/13%/16% / 12%/15%/18%.

The First Great Magic is Lyney's signature weapon and his absolute best-in-slot option. It provides a massive amount of CRIT DMG and a passive that perfectly synergizes with his kit. Similar to Lyney's Conclusive Ovation passive, this weapon grants additional ATK % and Movement SPD based on the number of other Pyro characters in the party.
Astral Vulture's Crimson Plumage R1

The Moonring Sighted

Base ATK: 608

CRIT DMG: 66.2%

For 12s after triggering a Swirl reaction, ATK increases by 24% / 30% / 36% / 42% / 48%. In addition, when 1/2 or more characters in the party are of a different Elemental Type from the equipping character, the DMG dealt by the equipping character's Charged Attacks is increased by 20%/48% / 25%/60% / 30%/72% / 35%/84% / 40%/96% and Elemental Burst DMG dealt is increased by 10%/24% / 12.5%/30% / 15%/36% / 17.5%/42% / 20%/48%.

Astral Vulture's Crimson Plumage is a phenomenal alternative 5-Star weapon. It serves as an incredible stat stick and provides powerful buffs that benefit Lyney's overall damage profile when played optimally.
Aqua Simulacra R1

The Cleansing Form

Base ATK: 542

CRIT DMG: 88.2%

HP is increased by 16% / 20% / 24% / 28% / 32%. When there are opponents nearby, the DMG dealt by the wielder of this weapon is increased by 20% / 25% / 30% / 35% / 40%. This will take effect whether the character is on-field or not.

Aqua Simulacra is a universally strong bow that works exceptionally well on Lyney. The massive 88.2% CRIT DMG stat helps balance his build alongside Marechaussee Hunter's CRIT Rate, and the unconditional DMG bonus is highly valuable as long as you remain relatively close to enemies.
Song of Stillness R5

Benthic Pulse

Base ATK: 510

ATK: 41.3%

After the wielder is healed, they will deal 16% / 20% / 24% / 28% / 32% more DMG for 8s. This can be triggered even when the character is not on the field.

Song of Stillness is an amazing free-to-play craftable option. Because Lyney naturally consumes his own HP and requires a healer (usually Bennett) to keep him topped up, he will constantly trigger the weapon's passive to gain a large DMG boost.
Prototype Crescent R5

Unreturning

Base ATK: 510

ATK: 41.3%

Charged Attack hits on weak points increase Movement SPD by 10% and ATK by 36% / 45% / 54% / 63% / 72% for 10s.

Prototype Crescent is another solid craftable choice for Lyney. However, its massive ATK % buff requires you to consistently land headshots on enemy weak points, making it somewhat situational depending on the enemy type you are fighting.

Best Artifacts for Lyney

Marechaussee Hunter

Marechaussee Hunter

2-Piece Set: Normal and Charged Attack DMG +15%

4-Piece Set: When current HP increases or decreases, CRIT Rate will be increased by 12% for 5s. Max 3 stacks.

Marechaussee Hunter is by far Lyney's best artifact set. Because his Charged Attacks inherently consume his HP and he heals himself using his Elemental Skill, he easily maintains the 3-stack buff. This provides a massive 36% CRIT Rate, allowing you to focus heavily on CRIT DMG and ATK % on your artifact pieces.
Lavawalker

Lavawalker

2-Piece Set: Pyro RES increased by 40%.

4-Piece Set: Increases DMG against opponents affected by Pyro by 35%.

Lavawalker is a viable alternative if you are playing Lyney in his standard Mono-Pyro team composition. Since enemies will constantly be affected by Pyro, Lyney will maintain 100% uptime on the 35% DMG bonus provided by the 4-piece set.

Lyney's Stat Priority

Sands of Eon: ATK %
Goblet of Eonothem: Pyro DMG
Circlet of Logos: CRIT DMG
Substats: CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG > ATK % > Energy Recharge

Lyney primarily wants ATK %, CRIT DMG, and CRIT Rate. Because Marechaussee Hunter provides 36% CRIT Rate, and Lyney ascends with CRIT Rate, you want to ensure you build a CRIT DMG . Be very careful not to overcap on CRIT Rate; 64% CRIT Rate on your stat screen is the absolute maximum you should aim for before the Marechaussee buff activates.

Recommended Stats for Lyney

Listed below are our recommended stats for Lyney. Build recommendations assume a Main DPS Lyney utilizing Marechaussee Hunter.

ATK: 2,000 - 2,400+
CRIT Rate: 40 - 64% (Before Marechaussee stacks)
CRIT DMG: 200 - 240%+
Energy Recharge: 120 - 150%

Lyney's Talent Priority

Talent Priority: Card Force Translocation > Bewildering Lights = Wondrous Trick: Miracle Parade

Lyney's Normal Attack talent is by far the most important to level, as it scales the damage of his Prop Arrows and Grin-Malkin Hats. His Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst deal solid damage and are roughly similar in value, so level them equally after maxing his Normal Attacks.

How to Play Lyney

Lyney's gameplay is centered heavily around his Charged Attacks. You want to hold his attack to the second charge level to fire a "Prop Arrow". This will summon a Grin-Malkin Hat on the field and consume a portion of Lyney's HP (if he is above 60% HP), perfectly stacking his Marechaussee Hunter set.

The Grin-Malkin Hat is incredibly useful, as it taunts nearby enemies to keep their attention away from you, making it much easier to safely charge your shots! When destroyed or when its duration expires, the hat deals AoE Pyro DMG. This can even occur when Lyney is off-field.

His Elemental Skill, Bewildering Lights, deals front-loaded AoE Pyro damage based on how many "Prop Surplus" stacks he generated from consuming HP. It also detonates any active Grin-Malkin Hats and heals Lyney based on the stacks consumed.

Finally, Lyney's Elemental Burst, Wondrous Trick: Miracle Parade, turns him into a Grin-Malkin Cat that moves rapidly around the field, dealing Pyro DMG to enemies he passes through. You can end the state early by pressing the Elemental Skill button, which will deal a final instance of AoE Pyro DMG and summon another Grin-Malkin Hat.

Lyney's Best Constellations

Lyney's constellations offer strong damage increases, with C2 being an incredible stopping point for low spenders.

Investment Priority: Signature Weapon > Constellation 1 > Constellation 2

Whimsical Wonders (C1) allows Lyney to have two Grin-Malkin Hats on the field simultaneously. Additionally, his Prop Arrows will summon two hats instead of one and grant an extra Prop Surplus stack, significantly speeding up his rotation and burst potential.

Loquacious Cajoling (C2) is arguably his best early constellation. It provides a massive, unconditional CRIT DMG increase (up to 60%) simply for keeping Lyney on the field for 6 seconds, heavily rewarding his standard Main DPS playstyle.
