Stonecutting Trade Skill Guide for New World
On this page, you will find our in-depth guide for the Stonecutting Trade Skill in New World, where we cover everything including, material costs, how to level your Stonecutting quickly and how to make tuning orbs.
Overview of Stonecutting in New World
Stonecutting is one of the five Refining Trade Skills in New World. Stonecutting involves processing all of the raw gems and stones gathered from the Mining skill and crafting them into cut gems and blocks to be used in the gem sockets in gear and to craft tuning orbs for dungeons, respectively.
Stonecutting is performed at a Stonecutting Table in any settlement. Each
Stonecutting Table will have a tier level that varies from town to town and a
higher tier level Stonecutting Table will enable you to craft higher tier
materials such as Runestone,
Runestone Stopwatch, and
Cut Pristine Onyx.
Refining Reagents for Stonecutting
Stonecutting has two refining reagents, Sandpaper for Stone-related
materials like Lodestone Brick and Solvent which is used for Gem-related
materials. These refining reagents are required when trying to craft up your
materials, and the higher rank of reagent you use is, the higher chance you
have to craft bonus materials.
The three available types of Sandpaper are: Coarse Sandpaper,
Fine Sandpaper, and
Obsidian Sandpaper. The three available
types of Solvent are:
Weak Solvent,
Potent Solvent and
Pure Solvent. Generally, Obsidian Sandpaper and Pure Solvent are the
best reagents to use, as they will provide you the highest chance at bonus
items and are usually quite cheap.
Levelling Stonecutting in New World
Stonecutting is a fairly simple skill to level up: the most experience you can acquire is from the highest tier materials you can craft, so always craft up for maximum experience.
However, you can take a cheaper route and continue to only craft the lower materials which are extremely useful and can still sell for plenty of gold, as many players would rather just buy those lower level resources than farm them themselves.
Generally, if you purely want to level your Stonecutting as easily as possible, you will focus on crafting up blocks all the way up to 200, as the materials required are easier to find than gems. Below is a basic table for cutting and fusing gems with the list of materials/levels they require. As a note, each type of gem will require a different elemental mote/wisp/essence/quintessence.
Refined Resources | Materials Required | Stonecutting Level | Experience Gained |
---|---|---|---|
Cut Flawed Gems | Flawed Gem x1 and Elemental Mote x2 | 0 | +129 |
Cut Common Gems | Common Gem x1, Elemental Wisp x2 and Solvent x1 | 50 | +1090 |
Cut Brilliant Gems | Brilliant Gem x1, Elemental Essence x2 and Solvent x1 | 100 | +5420 |
Cut Pristine Gems | Pristine Gem x1, Elemental Quintessence x3 and Tannin x1 | 150 | +30942 |
Fuse Common Gems | Flawed Gem x3, Elemental Wisp x1 and Solvent x1 | 50 | +1308 |
Fuse Brilliant Gems | Common Gem x4, Elemental Essence x1 and Solvent x1 | 100 | +7588 |
Fuse Pristine Gems | Brilliant Gem x5, Elemental Quintessence x1 and Solvent x1 | 150 | +41256 |
Runestone Stopwatch
With the removal of Tuning Orbs after the release of Brimstone Sands, a
new crafting material was used to serve a purpose for Runestone. Each day
you can craft a
Runestone Stopwatch which will act similar to a Timeless Shard.
If you choose to craft with it, you will have a 598-600 Gearscore item and it will
only be able to roll with Constitution. This roll only requires the base materials
and a Perk mod.

Stonecutting for Tuning Orbs
Tuning Orbs are required to Trials (Formerly known as Arenas) in New World. They were previously used to enter expeditions, but they are no longer required and have been removed.
Yield-Increasing Gear
Each of the five Refining Trade Skills have a gear set that increase the total yield you receive while refining by +2% per item. For Stonecutting, it is the Stonecutter's Gloves, Hat, Pants, Shirt and Shoes. You can generally find these as drops or on the Trading Post, however some pieces can be much rarer than others.
