Warlock Pre-Raid Best in Slot Gear
In this guide we go over the different gear available for Demonology Warlocks
before entering Raids in Wrath of the Lich King Classic. We will offer multiple
different pieces as some can be expensive or very rare to obtain. Some slots
have multiple "best" items that can change depending on your other gear
Gearing as Support Demonology vs Personal DPS Demonology
There are two types of Demonology Warlocks. First, you have the ones who are purely there for
support; their job is to 100% do everything they can to supply the largest Demonic Pact
buff that they possibly can for their Raid, even at the loss of their own personal DPS. On
the contrary, you have the guys who are not there to buff the raid and are there to just
deal as much damage they possibly can. Whether there are multiple
Demonology Warlocks in the raid and they can just blast, or the guild
does not mind them taking more of a DPS role and losing out on some Spell Power
from Demonic Pact, Demonology has a real choice to make. This is talked a
lot about in the Warlock community and which one you choose is
completely up to you and more importantly, up to your Raid Leader.
The bigger difference between support and Personal Demonology is the gearing, or more
importantly the stats. Without getting too deep into it, the most common difference
objectively is as a personal DPS Demo, you would choose Haste and would gear more like an
Affliction Warlock would for the most part, whereas a full support Demo chooses the pieces
of gear that give up that Haste for a healthy amount of Spell Power and Spirit and to a
degree even Hit rating. There are some gear sets where you can sacrifice a good chunk of hit,
but get an even bigger amount of Spell Power or Spirit, thus giving up a good bit of personal
DPS in return for some bigger Demonic Pacts. Items marked Best Support are specifically
for the pure support Demonology Warlocks.
Forgotten Shadow Hood is the best helm for support Demonology due to the Spirit on it.
If you are going for personal DPS, then choose either Titan-Forged Hood of Dominance or
Visage Liquification Goggles based upon your Hit Rating.
Encircling Burnished Gold Chains is your best choice due to the Spirit and Hit
on it and you will end up getting it pretty fast with your Emblems of Heroism.
Runecaster's Mantle is best for support due to the Spirit on it. Dark Runic Mantle is best
for personal DPS. Both of these are Bind on Equip and very cheap on the auction house.
Reanimator's Cloak is best for Support, while Deathchill Cloak is best
for personal DPS. Note that Deathchill Cloak is expensive and there are many cloak
upgrades from raids that will result in you replacing it pretty fast.
Heroes' Plagueheart Robe are best for both Support and Personal DPS. It also
has some much-needed Hit on it and two sockets. You also will need this to connect
your 4-piece set bonus. Spellweave Robe is a great alternative and also Bind on
Equip, so you can purchase one from the auction house.
Ancestral Sinew Wristguards are your best in slot bracers for Support Demo and are
also easy to obtain, since you will need Exalted with the same reputation for your Boot.
Cuffs of Winged Levitation are your best are best for personal DPS.
Gloves of Glistening Runes are the best gloves if you are support Demonology.
Both Spellweave Gloves and Heroes' Plagueheart Gloves are both pretty close
in terms of value for personal DPS. Spellweave Gloves brings more stats and
Heroes' Plagueheart Gloves brings the 2-set.
Sash of the Servant is the best belt for support Demonology. Plush Sash of Guzbah
is best in slot otherwise and is obtained from Emblems of Heroism.
Woven Bracae Leggings are best in slot pants for Demonology. Breeches of the Caller
is a great alternative that you can use until you have obtained Woven Bracae Leggings.
While you have few very good options for boots, Arcanic Tramplers will be the
best ones. These, along with Boots of Impetuous Ideals are both bind on equip and
buyable off of the auction house.
You have multiple ring options to choose from. Titanium Spellshock Ring being the best
one for support Demonology. After that, they all come pretty close. Signet of the Kirin Tor
is a strong ring that you can upgrade as the phases go by, however it is pretty expensive, considering
you will replace all of these rings pretty fast as soon as you start raiding.
Sundial of the Exiled and Mark of the War Prisoner are the best in slot
trinkets for Demonology. Forge Ember is a very good alternative if you can get
it to drop for you. Figurine - Twilight Serpent is also a very strong trinket and
excels for Demonology if you are Jewelcrafting.
Main Hand Weapon
Titansteel Spellblade is the best in slot weapon for Demonology. This is a bind
on equip main hand weapon that you can buy off the auction house for a hefty amount of gold.
If you do not want to spend gold on a weapon, then we suggest picking up a Staff of Draconic Combat
from The Oculus or Flameheart Spell Scalpel after you are Revered with
Off Hand Weapon
Handbook of Obscure Remedies is your best choice for Offhands as Support Demonology.
Otherwise use Ward of the Violet Citadel.
Both Wand of the San'layn and Wand of Ahn'kahet are amazing wands. If you need hit
Rating then use Wand of the San'layn, otherwise you can use Wand of Ahn'kahet.
