Overview of Ignis the Furnace Master in Wrath of the Lich King Classic

Ignis the Furnace Master is technically an optional boss and can be skipped if desired. Most groups will defeat Ignis either second or third, as it is one of the easiest fights in the raid. This fight does not have a hard mode that can be activated.

Role-Specific Tips for Ignis the Furnace Master

2.1.

DPS Tips

  • Melee DPS must always be aware of the bosses positioning. You must avoid the front of the boss, or you will be hit by Scorch IconScorch.
  • Melee DPS will want to be alert about when and where the boss will be moved. Always stay behind the boss and move quickly to maintain DPS.
  • Avoid wasting any damage on the Iron Construct as you do not need to kill them, and all that damage will be wasted.
  • Casters will always want to be aware of the Flame Jets IconFlame Jets timer and stop casting before it goes off to avoid the spell lock.
  • Use any immunity available to prevent Flame Jets IconFlame Jets from dealing damage and knocking you up. You can also use any personal defensive abilities available.
2.2.

Healer Tips

  • Be ready to quickly heal up the targets of Slag Pot IconSlag Pot as they are trapped throughout the fight.
  • Be aware of the Flame Jets IconFlame Jets timer and stop casting before it goes off to avoid the spell lock.
  • Ensure you are within range of the tanks at all times, as they will frequently need to move during the fight.
2.3.

Tank Tips

  • Ignis MUST ALWAYS be faced away from the raid.
  • Always be aware of the Scorch IconScorch fire on the ground. Avoid positioning the boss in a way that causes fire to displace melee or ranged raid members.
  • Be ready with defensive cooldowns if needed while moving from Scorch IconScorch as healers may also need to move.

Strategy for Ignis the Furnace Master

This fight revolves around a few key mechanics repeated frequently throughout the encounter. The first main ability is Scorch IconScorch, which deals serious Fire damage to all enemies in front of Ignis, and places a large patch of fire on the ground. This ability requires the boss to be faced away from the raid and often moved out of the fire patches left behind.

The second main ability is Flame Jets IconFlame Jets, which knocks up multiple players, deals moderate Fire damage, and interrupts any casts. All casters will want to be aware of this spell's timer and watch for it being cast; when Ignis is casting it, be sure to cancel your cast to avoid the spell lock that occurs if you are hit by this spell while casting.

The last main mechanic of the encounter is the Iron Constructs that periodically activates throughout the fight. For each Iron Construct that is alive, Ignis will gain a stack of Strength of the Creator IconStrength of the Creator, increasing his Physical damage done by 20% per stack. If you kill the activated Iron Construct, Ignis will lose 1 stack of this buff, but killing the Constructs is not so easy.

4.1.

How to deal with Iron Constructs

To kill a Iron Construct, you will need an off-tank to establish aggro on them as they activate. Then they must be dragged into the fire patches left on the ground by Scorch IconScorch. While standing in this fire the Constructs gain a stacking buff Heat IconHeat, and at 10 stacks, they become Molten IconMolten. It is worth noting that you can root and slow the Constructs, allowing you to "drop them off" in the fire without taking the damage from the fire patches.

After becoming Molten IconMolten, the Iron Construct will reset threat and begin dealing moderate, pulsing Fire damage to all nearby enemies. The off-tank must re-establish aggro and position the Construct away from other raid members. The Construct should then be dragged into the nearby water, where it will turn Brittle IconBrittle. While Brittle IconBrittle, the Iron Construct will shatter, exploding for massive Fire damage to all nearby enemies and dying. Doing this will remove a stack of Strength of the Creator IconStrength of the Creator from Ignis.

4.2.

Ignis the Furnace Master Zerg Strategy

Similar to previous raid bosses such as Sartharion, this fight is possible to nuke down quickly with enough gear and coordination. Seeing as Strength of the Creator IconStrength of the Creator only buffs Physical damage dealt; it is not highly crucial to kill the Constructs. The fight will play out mostly the same, except you will completely ignore the Iron Constructs during the fight. Focus all damage into the boss while one tank grabs all of the Constructs as they activate.

You will still need to deal with both Flame Jets IconFlame Jets and Slag Pot IconSlag Pot, as well as the frontal damage from Scorch IconScorch, but the fire patches can be removed from consideration by tanking Ignis in the water.

As Ignis is only the second boss in the raid, the DPS requirements for the burn strategy is reachable by most raid groups. If you find yourself just slightly short on DPS, you can always kill one or two Iron Constructs to lower Ignis' damage and then continue nuking Ignis himself once things are under control again.
