1. Legendary Items

Legendary items have a high item level of 895, which makes them extremely strong. They are so strong, in fact, that a legendary item is always going to be worth equipping over any other item you might have in that slot.

However, there is a limitation on the number of legendary items you can have equipped at any one time (currently 1, but this number will increase throughout Legion). Since some legendary items are better than others, if you have more items than the limit, you will have to choose which ones to equip.

Below, we will do our best to guide you through this process, as well as provide any other relevant information.

Below is our ranking of the legendary items available to Holy Paladins.

  1. Obsidian Stone Spaulders Icon Obsidian Stone Spaulders: this is the best legendary by far.
  2. Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus Icon Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus: this is generally undervalued; it scales with your hit points and can prevent roughly 300,000 damage every 35 seconds.
  3. Ilterendi, Crown Jewel of Silvermoon Icon Ilterendi, Crown Jewel of Silvermoon: this will realistically only increase the next two casts which should be a Light of Dawn Icon Light of Dawn and a Flash of Light Icon Flash of Light/Holy Shock Icon Holy Shock.
  4. Uther's Guard Icon Uther's Guard: this does not take up a tier slot and increases the duration of your Blessings by a substantial amount.
  5. Chain of Thrayn Icon Chain of Thrayn: this should see a fair amount of use, as it will often heal when you are throwing down a Blessing of Sacrifice Icon Blessing of Sacrifice or Blessing of Protection Icon Blessing of Protection. It also works with Blessing of Freedom Icon Blessing of Freedom.
  6. Tyr's Hand of Faith Icon Tyr's Hand of Faith: unfortunately, this takes up a tier slot and will only give you one additional Lay on Hands Icon Lay on Hands if the first is used early in the encounter.
  7. Aggramar's Stride Icon Aggramar's Stride: while movement speed is amazing, Haste is your worst stat and is not worth choosing over any other legendary.
  8. Sephuz's Secret Icon Sephuz's Secret: this is definitely not worth using unless it is your only legendary and you are using it for the item level alone.

2. Loot Competition

Regarding the loot you will get from raid or dungeon bosses, you will compete with other classes in the following cases:

Item Type Competing Classes
Tier Tokens Demon Hunters, Protection/Retribution Paladins, Priests, and Warlocks
Plate Armor Death Knights, Protection/Retribution Paladins, and Warriors
  • Amulets
  • Cloaks
  • Rings
Trinkets Restoration Druids, Mistweaver Monks, Discipline/Holy Priests, and Restoration Shamans
