Talents can easily be changed, thanks to Tome of the Clear Mind Icon Tomes of the Clear Mind. You will frequently find yourself changing talents and glyphs between encounters, in order to adapt your play style to different mechanics. Therefore, it is important to understand what each of your talents does and how they affect your play style.

2. Tier 1 Talents↑top

Tier 1 talents offer you a choice between 3 ways of improving your mobility.

  • Celerity Icon Celerity passively increases the number of charges of Roll Icon Roll and Chi Torpedo Icon Chi Torpedo by 1, and reduces their cooldown by 5 seconds.
  • Tiger's Lust Icon Tiger's Lust removes all roots and snares from the target, and grants 70% increased movement speed for 6 seconds. It has a 30-second cooldown. It is targeted, so it can be cast on yourself or on another ally.
  • Momentum Icon Momentum passively causes each Roll Icon Roll and Chi Torpedo Icon Chi Torpedo to increase your movement speed by 25% for 10 seconds, stacking up 2 times.

The choice of talent here depends greatly on how you wish to move during the encounter.

  • If you are looking for a controlled burst of movement speed, or possibly to escape movement impairing effects, then Tiger's Lust Icon Tiger's Lust is best. Do note that this spell can be cast on allies, providing you with added utility.
  • If you believe you will make frequent use of Roll Icon Roll or Chi Torpedo Icon Chi Torpedo (and in particular if you are using the Chi Torpedo talent), and you wish to make their usage more comfortable, then you will probably prefer Celerity Icon Celerity.
  • If you believe you will make frequent use of Roll Icon Roll or Chi Torpedo Icon Chi Torpedo (and, again, if you have taken the Chi Torpedo talent), and you wish to benefit from increased movement speed each time you do so, then Momentum Icon Momentum is for you. That said, Momentum is not really very helpful during actual encounters, so this is the least useful choice.

Overall, the preferred choice in most situations will be Tiger's Lust Icon Tiger's Lust.

3. Tier 2 Talents↑top

Tier 2 talents offer you a choice between 3 hybrid, DPS-healing abilities.

  • Chi Wave Icon Chi Wave is essentially a chain-heal that bounces to the 7 nearest targets. The bounces target allies and enemies alternatively. Each target that the wave bounces to is healed or damaged, depending on their alignment. The healing portion of Chi Wave is a smart heal, in the sense that it prefers healing low health players. It has a 15-second cooldown, and it is free of cost.
  • Zen Sphere Icon Zen Sphere summons a sphere above the head of a friendly target (yourself included), which lasts for 16 seconds. Every 2 seconds, the sphere heals the target, and deals damage to the nearest enemy within 10 yards. It has a 10-second cooldown, and it is free of cost. You can have a maximum of two spheres at one time. Finally, the Zen Sphere will detonate, causing it to deal a moderate amount of damage and healing to all targets within 10 yards, whenever its target drops below 35% health, or after its duration runs out.
  • Chi Burst Icon Chi Burst heals all friendly targets, and damages all hostile targets in a 40-yard cone in front of the caster. The spell has a 30-second cooldown, a very short cast time, and it is free of cost.

The choice of talent here will mostly depend on your raid size. In small groups (as well as in 5-man dungeons and solo content), Chi Wave Icon Chi Wave is generally best, except in encounters where the whole raid is stacked up. In these cases, Chi Burst Icon Chi Burst is best. Chi Burst is also ideal for large raid groups.

Zen Sphere Icon Zen Sphere's HoT is very weak, but the detonation is quite nice, especially if it happens automatically (when the target reaches 35% health). If the raid is stacked up, and players are often dropping below 35% health, this ability can be quite good. That said, you should not be choosing this talent.

4. Tier 3 Talents↑top

Tier 3 talents offer you 3 choices that enhance your resource generation.

  • Power Strikes Icon Power Strikes passively causes Jab Icon Jab, Expel Harm Icon Expel Harm, Spinning Crane Kick Icon Spinning Crane Kick (when it hits at least 3 targets), and Surging Mist Icon Surging Mist to generate 1 additional Chi. The effect has a 15-second internal cooldown. If you are at maximum Chi when this effect procs, a Chi sphere will spawn next to you. A Chi sphere grants you 1 Chi each time you walk through/over it, consuming the sphere in the process.
  • Ascension Icon Ascension increases your maximum Chi by 1 (from 4 to 5), your maximum Mana by 20%, and your Energy regeneration rate by 15%.
  • Chi Brew Icon Chi Brew instantly restores 2 Chi, and generates 1 stack of Mana Tea Icon Mana Tea. This ability has 2 charges, and a 1-minute recharge time.

Each of these three talents presents certain advantages, but we believe that Chi Brew Icon Chi Brew is the best option at the moment. Not only does it give you a great deal of control over when to gain its benefits, but it also provides you with some Mana regeneration.

Power Strikes Icon Power Strikes is also quite good, generating a lot of Chi per minute, but doing so out of your control.

Ascension Icon Ascension remains lackluster compared to the other two talents.

5. Tier 4 Talents↑top

Tier 4 talents offer you a choice between 3 crowd-control abilities.

  • Ring of Peace Icon Ring of Peace is an ability that can be cast on a friendly player. It creates a ring with an 8-yard radius around the player, lasting 8 seconds. When Ring of Peace is cast, enemy players who are inside this area are instantly incapacitated for 3 seconds. Enemies inside the area who cast spells or use any abilities other than melee attacks are incapacitated for 3 seconds (the incapacitate being subject to diminishing returns). This ability has a 45-second cooldown.
  • Charging Ox Wave Icon Charging Ox Wave summons an ox that stuns all enemies located in a 30-yard path in front of you for 3 seconds. It has a 30-second cooldown.
  • Leg Sweep Icon Leg Sweep stuns all enemies within a 5-yard radius of you for 5 seconds. It has a 45-second cooldown.

These talents have no meaningful impact on your gameplay and will not affect your performance. Therefore, you can choose them based on your own preference or the crowd-control requirements of the encounter.

That said, you will probably find Leg Sweep Icon Leg Sweep to be the best choice in most encounters.

6. Tier 5 Talents↑top

Tier 5 talents offer you a choice between 3 survival abilities.

  • Healing Elixirs Icon Healing Elixirs heals you for 15% of your maximum health each time you drink from a Brew or Tea. The effect has an 18-second internal cooldown, and it does not proc when you are at full health. It procs automatically when you have less than 35% health.
  • Dampen Harm Icon Dampen Harm causes the next 3 attacks against you (within 45 seconds), which deal 15% or more of your maximum health in damage, to have their damage reduced by 50%. This ability can be used while stunned, and it has a 1.5-minute cooldown.
  • Diffuse Magic Icon Diffuse Magic transfers all magical debuffs from you onto their caster, where possible. Additionally, for 6 seconds, it reduces all magic damage taken by 90%.

The best choice is either Diffuse Magic Icon Diffuse Magic or Dampen Harm Icon Dampen Harm, depending on the encounter mechanics. Healing Elixirs Icon Healing Elixirs can be useful outside of raid content (for example, during leveling) but it has no place in raids.

  • Diffuse Magic can help you greatly mitigate magic damage against you (most raid damage is magic damage), as well as clear harmful debuffs from yourself.
  • Dampen Harm works against both magic damage and physical attacks, despite the tooltip mentioning attacks. It can prove beneficial, but it will almost always provide a smaller damage reduction than Diffuse Magic.

7. Tier 6 Talents↑top

Tier 6 talents offer you a choice between 3 multiple target abilities.

  • Rushing Jade Wind Icon Rushing Jade Wind is an improvement over Spinning Crane Kick Icon Spinning Crane Kick, which it replaces. It summons a tornado that moves around you, healing up to 6 allies within 8 yards of you. If it hits at least 3 targets, it grants you 1 Chi. It has a very short cooldown, and it costs Mana to use.
  • Invoke Xuen, the White Tiger Icon Invoke Xuen, the White Tiger summons a tiger that will attack your current target, and 3 other nearby enemies. The tiger persists for 45 seconds, and you can control its actions by means of a pet action bar. It has a 3-minute cooldown.
  • Chi Torpedo Icon Chi Torpedo is an improvement over Roll Icon Roll, which it replaces. It causes you to roll a short distance in front of you (but further than with Roll), dealing damage to all enemies, and healing all allies in your path.

The best talent in this tier is undoubtedly Rushing Jade Wind Icon Rushing Jade Wind. It provides excellent throughput, but you should beware of its Mana cost.

Chi Torpedo Icon Chi Torpedo can be used (together with Celerity Icon Celerity) if you are struggling for Mana.

Invoke Xuen, the White Tiger Icon Invoke Xuen, the White Tiger is currently quite underpowered.

8. Tier 7 Talents↑top

Tier 7 talents offer you a choice between 3 ways of enhancing your healing performance.

  • Breath of the Serpent Icon Breath of the Serpent is an ability that your Jade Serpent Statue casts. It faces towards you and breathes healing mists in your direction, healing players in a 20-yard cone over 10 seconds. This ability is free to cast, and it has a 90-second cooldown.
  • Chi Explosion Icon Chi Explosion consumes all your Chi, up to 4, having different additional effects depending on how much Chi was used. Before we look at the effects based on Chi, it is important to note that Chi Explosion replaces Blackout Kick Icon Blackout Kick.
    • 1+ Chi: Heals an ally for a base amount plus more healing for every additional point of Chi consumed.
    • 2+ Chi: Causes an additional 50% healing over 6 seconds.
    • 3+ Chi: The healing amount is evenly divided among all allies within 8 yards of the target.
    • 4 Chi: Also summons 8 Healing Spheres in an 8-yard radius around the target, that last 15 seconds.
  • Pool of Mists Icon Pool of Mists is a passive ability that causes your Renewing Mist Icon Renewing Mist to have 3 charges and to have its healing increased by 15%, and your Rising Sun Kick Icon Rising Sun Kick to also have 3 charges and to have its damage increased by 50%.

The default talent choice in this tier is Pool of Mists Icon Pool of Mists. It provides you with increased damage when fistweaving, and the fact that it provides Renewing Mist Icon Renewing Mist with a charge system works very well with the benefits offered by Jade Mists Icon Jade Mists (a passive ability).

Breath of the Serpent Icon Breath of the Serpent is only useful if there is heavy raid-wide damage the frequency of which coincides with the talent's cooldown. It also suffers from limited range.

Chi Explosion Icon Chi Explosion loses out to Uplift Icon Uplift and Enveloping Mist Icon Enveloping Mist in your normal gameplay, as it is quite undertuned. It can only work reasonably well for fistweaving.

9. Major Glyphs↑top

There are many Major Glyphs that are interesting for Mistweaver Monks.

  • Glyph of Soothing Mist Icon Glyph of Soothing Mist causes you to gain a movement speed buff whenever you stop channeling Soothing Mist Icon Soothing Mist. The buff increases your movement speed by 60%, and it lasts 1 seconds for each second you spent channeling Soothing Mist.
  • Glyph of Life Cocoon Icon Glyph of Life Cocoon allows you to cast Life Cocoon Icon Life Cocoon while stunned. While this glyph is mostly PvP-oriented, we believe that certain PvE situations may arise where it can be used to some benefit.
  • Glyph of Targeted Expulsion Icon Glyph of Targeted Expulsion allows you to use Expel Harm Icon Expel Harm on other players, but its healing is reduced by 50% when cast on them. This glyph is useful, and you should take it whenever you have a spare glyph slot.
  • Glyph of Renewing Mist Icon Glyph of Renewing Mist increases the range of Renewing Mist Icon Renewing Mist 40 yards. This glyph is essential.
  • Glyph of Surging Mist Icon Glyph of Surging Mist transforms Surging Mist Icon Surging Mist into a smart heal that you can no longer target, while you are in Stance of the Spirited Crane Icon Stance of the Spirited Crane. Casting Surging Mist will simply cause it to heal the lowest health target within 40 yards. This glyph simplifies gameplay, but it does take some control away from you.
  • Glyph of Detox Icon Glyph of Detox causes Detox Icon Detox to also heal the target when it successfully removes a harmful effect from them.
  • Glyph of Detoxing Icon Glyph of Detoxing gives your Detox Icon Detox 2 charges, but also gives it a 4-second cooldown. Depending on the circumstances of the encounter, this glyph might be useful. Note that it is exclusive with Glyph of Detox Icon Glyph of Detox.
  • Glyph of Touch of Death Icon Glyph of Touch of Death removes the Chi cost of Touch of Death Icon Touch of Death, but increases its cooldown by 2 minutes. Deciding whether or not to use this glyph depends on the number of times that you believe you will be able to use Touch of Death during the fight (depending on how many bosses will be below 10% health, at what intervals, and for how long). If you will only get the chance to use Touch of Death once in the fight, then using this glyph is a DPS increase, as it saves you 3 Chi. If, however, you can use Touch of Death more than once, the glyph will probably be a DPS loss since the increased cooldown that the glyph causes will mean you will miss out on additional casts (due to the ability being on cooldown).

10. Minor Glyphs↑top

Most Minor Glyphs are purely cosmetic, having no effect whatsoever on your gameplay or performance. Glyph of Spirit Roll Icon Glyph of Spirit Roll and Glyph of Water Roll Icon Glyph of Water Roll, allow you to use Roll Icon Roll and Chi Torpedo Icon Chi Torpedo while dead, and while traveling over water respectively, are the only two worth mentioning. They have no raid applicability, but they can prove to be very convenient.
