1. Legion Pre-Expansion Patch Gear Recommendations

Here are a few recommendations for pieces to look out for, or swap to, while we finish out the expansion in the Legion pre-patch.

Bleeding Hollow Toxin Vessel Icon Bleeding Hollow Toxin Vessel is overall your best trinket if you are using Marked for Death Icon Marked for Death or Slice and Dice Icon Slice and Dice, as it provides a hefty buff to your primary finisher.

Stone of the Elements Icon Stone of the Elements is your next best trinket, and the best trinket overall if you are playing with Death From Above Icon Death From Above. It has good synergy with Maalus, the Blood Drinker Icon Maalus, the Blood Drinker, high uptime, and consistent opener damage.

Mirror of the Blademaster Icon Mirror of the Blademaster remains a solid choice for consistent damage.

Skull of War Icon Skull of War is very consistent in the opener for burst and is easily obtained.

Chipped Soul Prism Icon Chipped Soul Prism is excellent for extended fights due to its passive benefits.

You should also continue to use your T18 4PC, if available, and prioritize upgrades with attractive stats. Per usual, upgrades with a large gap in item level will always favor the higher item level piece. You should always use your highest item level weapons regardless of their stats.

2. Weapon Choice

Weapon choice can be quite tricky as an Outlaw Rogue.

For single-target situations, here is how the various combinations rank (at equal item level):

  1. Slow Main-hand / Slow Off-hand;
  2. Fast Main-hand / Slow Off-hand = Slow Main-hand / Fast Off-hand;
  3. Fast Main-hand / Fast Off-hand.

For multiple-target situations where you can use Blade Flurry Icon Blade Flurry, here is how the various combinations rank (at equal item level):

  1. Fast Main-hand / Slow Off-hand;
  2. Fast Main-hand / Fast Off-hand;
  3. Slow Main-hand / Slow Off-hand;
  4. Slow Main-hand / Fast Off-hand.

Note that you can swap weapons during fights to adapt to different phases, but the cost of doing so is not trivial (due to swing timer reset and RPPM behaviours). So, you should only do so during periods of downtime or when you will be using the swapped weapon for a long time (at least 15 seconds). For more data on this, please refer to FieryDemise's post on Ravenholdt.

3. Loot Competition

Regarding the loot you will get from raid or dungeon bosses, you will compete with other classes in the following cases:

Item Type Competing Classes
Tier Tokens Death Knights, Druids, Mages, and Assassination/Subtlety Rogues
Leather Armor Demon Hunters, Druids, Monks, and Assassination/Subtlety Rogues
  • Amulets
  • Cloaks
  • Rings
Everyone
Trinkets Havoc Demon Hunters, Feral Druids, Windwalker Monks, Hunters, Assassination/Subtlety Rogues, and Enhancement Shamans
