Chrono Odyssey Beginner's Guide
The purpose of this beginner's guide is to provide you with the basic assistance with overcoming some of the starting hurdles within Chrono Odyssey. Some of these skills will help you throughout the leveling process and perfecting your class, while others are useful tips that will come in handy once you reach end-game content.
Chrono Odyssey Tips and Tricks
The world of Setera in Chrono Odyssey is a massive, beautiful world that will take you hundreds (if not thousands) of hours to completely explore. Regardless of where you are on the map, or how strong your character may be, there are a handful of tips and tricks that are helpful and relevant throughout your journey.
Take a closer look at these general tips below, and start sprinkling them in throughout your Chrono Odyssey gameplay!
Choosing Your Class
Choosing your class in Chrono Odyssey will be one of the most important decisions you make. Once you decide, your character is permanently set to that class for their entire playthrough. There are a total of six playable classes, with each class offering the option to use two out of three class-specific weapons.
When deciding which class to play, it is important to understand the typical battle style for each class, and the available weapon choices for each. To learn more about the pros and cons of each class, check out our in-depth class guide.
Buy Gathering Tools Early
As soon as you make it to the first town in Chrono Odyssey, you should find the NPC named "Gavron". This NPC will allow you to buy a range of items, including basic gathering tools. Be sure to purchase one of each gathering tool to ensure you are prepared to start gathering resources as you continue to explore Setera.
The tools you should prioritize purchasing here include the following:
- Basic Sickle
- Basic Pickaxe
- Basic Logging Axe
- Basic Butcher Knife
- Basic Fishing Pole
Bounty Boards
One of the best ways to progress your character is by completing Bounty Board missions. Within each major town in Setera there will be a large Bounty Board near the center of the town. By interacting with the Bounty Board, you can accept different bounties that not only provide some nice experience, but also a handful of other rewards like bounty tokens, consumables, resources, and even gold.
As you begin to learn more about your character's skills and abilities, it is highly recommended to complete as many bounties as early as possible. You can simultaneously pick up rewards and gain a stronger understanding of the combat system within the game. Additionally, you can use the bounty tokens to purchase some high-quality gear to help progress further in the game.
Unlocking Your Mount
Setera is a very, very large world, and it is MUCH easier to explore if you have a mount to ride. It is highly recommended to unlock your mount as soon as possible to speed up the overall time you would spend traveling throughout the map.
Below are a few steps you need to complete in order to unlock your mount in Chrono Odyssey.
- Visit the Santove's Discovery Bound Stone
- Near the Bound Stone, you will see an NPC named "Medina". After speaking with her, start the quest to unlock your mount.
- Once the quest is started, you will need to travel east to a field full of horses, where you will "capture" a mount. It is easiest to use the Temporal Isolation Chronotector ability to slow down time to capture a horse, but it is not required.
- Once you capture the horse, go back to Medina and complete the quest. This will unlock your mount!

Time Portals
As you continue to progress your character and explore Setera, you will eventually come across Time Portals, which are large structures with a purple-like glow. Time Portals are one of the best ways to gain massive experience for your character, as well as a handful of rare items and resources. Ensure you prioritize the number of Time Portals you complete, as it can greatly progress your character in a handful of different ways.
In order to enter these Time Portals, your character will need to have a Defector's Key, which is dropped from Elite Mobs in the open world. Each Time Portal has a recommended Equipment Score, and will provide a handful of unique rewards, including Armor Jewels, rare equipment designs, rare jewelry, and even some Primitive Iron Ore.
Helpful Tip: Make sure you mine all of the Primitive Iron Ore you see in every Time Portal you enter — you will need it for future upgrades down the road!
Perk Selection
To maximize the damage output and survivability of your character, make sure to pick your gear's perk selection carefully. Luckily, trial-specific perks are both powerful and easy to obtain early on, so prioritize purchasing the gear from the NPC named Zakel (located outside the Trial of Tilted Wails).
To obtain the required currency to purchase this gear, first buy the Trial Key from Zakel, and complete the Trial of Tilted Wails as many times as you can. Each time you complete the trial, you will obtain more of this trial-specific currency.
Once you have a decent amount, purchase one piece per type of equipment. Although these items will be level 5, you can still transfer these perks to other pieces of equipment, including level 15 gear. Transferring will help you take on more challenging foes as you progress your character further!
Enchanting Gear
Once you have a piece of gear that you plan to keep for a while, you should strongly consider enchanting it. Within every major town there will be an NPC that you can interact with to start the enchanting process. In the first town, the NPC is named "Richter".
When enchanting gear, the overall stats of the gear piece will increase with each successful enchant. Additionally, you can also unlock enchantment effects that provide even more buffs.
However, it is important to know that enchanting gear costs more than just gold. As you continue to enchant your gear, the required resources will slowly change, ranging from items like Transient Shards, Eternal Hearts, and more!
Please note: Eternal Hearts are one of the most important resources needed when enchanting gear. These can be easily farmed by killing the large red dragon located East of First Breath Coast (near one of the starting areas of the game). The dragon's name is Wyvern Despot, and stocking up on its Eternal Hearts will make your life a bit easier when enchanting.

Using Chronotector Abilities
It is very important to understand and utilize your Chronotector abilities as much as possible. As you progress throughout the game and defeat more Chrono Gate bosses, you will unlock new Chronotector abilities. Each ability provides a range of unique benefits, with some being potentially game-changing in combat. Below is a quick overview of these Chronotector abilities.
| Ability | Description |
|---|---|
| Time Reversal | Reverts the caster's position and HP to their previous state after 10 seconds. Very useful in combat. |
| Temporal Isolation | Halts enemy movement for a set duration. Recommended for farming trash mobs (does not work on most bosses). |
| Summon | Summons a specter that fights alongside you for a set duration, vanishing after unleashing a powerful skill. Very useful in combat. |
| Temporal Tuning | Reduces a shockwave that reveals traces of the past, including specific objects and footprints. Not recommended for combat. |
| Temporal Resistance | Grants slow fall and aerial gliding. Does not prevent fall damage after the effects end. Not recommended for combat, but good for exploration. |
