This page contains information about the Strategy Board, an in-game tool to create and share strategies used to defeat difficult encounters in FFXIV.

What is the Strategy Board?

Strategy Board

The Strategy Board was announced leading up to the Dawntrail expansion and was released in Patch 7.4 on December 16, 2025. It is an in-game feature that allows players to create strategies, positioning diagrams, and memes for high-end encounters in FFXIV and share them with other players in-game.

Prior to its release, the most popular way of sharing raid strategies was with third party apps such as Toolbox or Raidplan. Now players can view common raid strategies inside the game without relying on additional tools to progress in fights.

Strategy Board Features

There are four main features of the Strategy Board.

  1. Create strategy from scratch or preset;
  2. Edit strategy board;
  3. Receive or share strategy with party members in real time;
  4. Receive or share strategy with share codes.

Players are able to save up to 50 strategies that can be separated into folders containing a maximum of 10 strategies. You can also share strategies in real time with party members, which is essential for both cutting-edge progression and mechanic explanations for newer party members.

Mechanics

In the image above, the strategy board shows the following mechanics with perfect accuracy:

  1. A common light party stack; an example is Eventide Fall in the Voidcast Dais (Extreme);
  2. Phantom Flood from Overseer Kanilokka;
  3. Fourfold Blight from Dawntrail EX5;
  4. Roseblood: 3rd Bloom from Dawntrail EX4.

Strategy Board Editing

Editing Strategy Board

Players who are unsatisfied with basic presets and need more in-depth strategies can opt to fully edit the strategy board. Players can add objects to the board that can represent players, mechanics, explanations, text, and more! Each object added has its own layer similar to photo-editing software and have parameters that can be edited, such as size, opacity, and location.

2.2.1.

Objects

There are four main categories of objects that can be added to a strategy board.

  1. Class and Job Icons
  2. Boss Attack Types
  3. Icon Markers and Waymarks
  4. Text, Signs, and Symbols

Players can quickly toggle between DPS-specific icons or general DPS icons, as different regions use different methods of differentiating DPS players.

2.2.2.

Editing Object Parameters

Object Parameters

Each objects has up to five parameters that can be edited. Not all objects have all five parameters.

  1. Size
  2. Angle
  3. Transparency
  4. Arc Angle
  5. Inner ring size

Each of these parameters can be adjusted to fit the mechanic being described. For example, if you were to create Omega's Starboard Wave Cannon which cleaves just over half the arena on the right, make a Fan AoE with -15 Angle and 200 Arc Angle.

2.3.

Strategy Board Live Sharing

Sharing Strategy Board

As previously mentioned, players can share strategies being edited in real time. This allows for parties progressing in duties to figure out positioning for mechanics with a visual aid. Players can quickly assign spots based on roles and progress much faster compared to previously. This can also be useful when veterans are teaching new raiders mechanics: they are able to explain the mechanic through in-game tools only, allowing for new raiders to pick up mechanics more intuitively without relying on third-party websites.

To share a Strategy Board live, right click on the strategy board to access the menu and select Real-time Sharing when in a party. Party members will get a pop-up notification that allows them to view the board in real-time. Make edits and discuss what needs to be done to defeat the boss!

2.4.

Strategy Board Code Sharing

Share codes can be generated from strategy boards to share strategies both inside and outside the game. This makes it much easier for raid leaders to generate strategies for their group and share them so that all players have easy access. Codes can be copied to the clipboard and shared in messaging channels, or with strategy websites.

One of the main strategy websites for players is Where TF Do I Go, or WTFDIG. Accessible here, the website is used to quickly view player positions based on role and light party for key mechanics in raids. It has a new feature that allows players to bundle and share Strategy Boards, as well as view them all in one place. This allows for easy access of strategies for fights, which will be useful when learning difficult Extreme and harder duties.
