Recommended Posts

We've already seen the new 8.3 Death Knight options coming, and now we have an official Blizzard preview on them as well. We'll be able to roll these new races as DKs next week, just as long as we've pre-ordered Shadowlands that is, but at least we get a new brand new starting story, as well as new Ebon Blade swords and new eyes!

You can also check out everything else that's coming in 8.3 in our patch hub right here.

In life you were a champion of your people. In death, you can rise once more to serve Azeroth as a Death Knight.

With the launch of Visions of N’Zoth, players who have pre-purchased World of Warcraft: Shadowlands will be able to create pandaren and Allied Race Death Knights—including the newly available vulpera and mechagnomes once they’re unlocked.

TIP: Players who want to create Allied Race Death Knights will need to fulfill the requirements to unlock them before making a character. Requirements to unlock Allied Races can be found by hovering over the desired race icon on the character creation screen. Pandaren Death Knights have no restrictions and can be created immediately.

Pandaren and Allied Race Death Knights have a new starting experience and arise as champions of Lich King Bolvar at Icecrown amongst their spectral peers. After completing an introductory questline with Bolvar, they will begin their journey as heroes of Azeroth and join forces with either the Horde or the Alliance. Death Knights for previously available races will still begin their new lives in Archerus the Ebon Hold as summoned servants of Lich King Arthas.

Pandaren Death Knight accepted by Horsemen of the Ebon Blade
Ascend as a Death Knight with full honors from The Four Horsemen of the Ebon Blade and Bolvar at Icecrown Citadel.

All new Death Knight characters will receive the iconic Archerus Deathcharger class mount after completing the introductory questline, with Allied Race Death Knights also receiving their racial mount (pandaren racial mounts will still need to be purchased from a vendor). Heritage Armor for pandaren and Allied Races characters can be obtained by leveling to 110.

Windows to the Soul

All Death Knights new and old will receive an updated appearance. Inspired by the notorious Lich King Arthas, their eyes now sport a dynamic eerie glow that captures the ghastly chill of Northrend.

Mechagnomes
See Azeroth and beyond through frosted lenses.

Serve Life in Death

Many will fear you after your dark rebirth, but your sacrifice is a necessity to confront the new horrors that will be unleashed once the Visions of N’Zoth content update goes live next week on January 14.

Oh, weird. I thought they were moving everyone into the new Bolvar timeline for consistency and to cut back on all the timeline hopping in this game.

I feel like they should do that, actually, as default. But then give players a choice to relive the starting experience as Arthas' minion if they so desire.

Makes more sense for newer players.

It would be sad if they removed the original Death Knight experience introduced in WotLK. I'm glad they're keeping that for the default races.

It's definitely better to have it awkwardly than not have it all, I agree for sure.

I think I've run that starting instance about 30 times lol.

Currently on the Beta, something iffy is going on with Lava Burst. It's bugged in a weird way, allowing Elemental Shamans to can constantly spam the ability.
Update: The bug is caused by the Windspeaker's Lava Resurgence Legendary Item effect, which triggers Ascendance on Lava Burst casts. Ascendance auto-casts Lava Burst on all active Flame Shock targets, and this can trigger a loop if you get lucky. Thanks to Bloodmallet for pointing out what's causing this!
The bug seems to have something to do with the Primordial Wave, the Necrolord Covenant Ability, that spreads Lava Burst to nearby enemies affected by your Flame Shock.

Redditor Hakizu also posted a second video showcasing the bug during an Arena match. Warning, the video contains strong language.

The WoW community spent the second half of this week in anticipation of Blizzard's pre-patch release date announcement, only to come away disappointed. There has been plenty of speculation on the date, going from September 15th all the way to the current most likely date of October 6th (for the US). Also, a brand new clue/tinfoil hat conspiracy has come up recently as well, as some mobs are channeling once again!
      The Season End Warning
First things first though, the real reason why October 6th/7th is the most likely pre-patch release date at this time is the warning Blizzard give out for the end of a season. Usually it's around 2 weeks, but it's been known to be less, and many players are hoping they'll just make it 1 week this time. However, with this being the end of not just Season 4 but also Battle for Azeroth in general, with many players still chasing AotC and CE achievements, arena rankings and everything else that's going away in the pre-patch, it seems unlikely that the now very standard 10-14 days warning goes down to 7 or 8 (as Monday would be the earliest they could announce at this point).
      The Channeling Mobs
There have been several new reports of some very persistent casters channeling once more, as both the old controversial Xorothian Cultists and some new friends of theirs are at it again. Now this particular "channeling time is pointing to the patch/pre-patch/other important dates" theory has been debunked in the past, and several different mobs have been seen channeling pointing to random dates, so take this one with a giant grain of salt, but the new and old mobs are indeed channeling again and are pointing to October 6th and 7th (depending on is it's on US or EU servers).
You can read about the Xorothian Cultists here, the new Shirakess Apprentice fellows here, and you can (and probably should) read the debunking thread from a few years ago here.

      Source.
      The Reputation Buff
As we've talked about before, the reputation buff is active through all of September and it seems a little strange/unlikely that it would remain active for only 2 days (or even 1 for EU) of the pre-patch arriving. Obviously this isn't that big a deal but it does point to the 6th and 7th being more likely as well, and at least we know the dates of the rep buff as a fact, unlike the above two reasons.
      Conclusion
It's seeming very likely that we won't be getting the pre-patch on October 29th/30th, making Shadowlands' one of the shorter pre-expansion events, coming in at 3 weeks. Whether this has something to do with the controversial nature of the Scourge invasion event, which has been moved around the insane/difficult/slightly annoying/irrelevant scale an awful lot on the PTR, so perhaps Blizzard don't want it up for too long, or perhaps there's some technical issues or even just the need for more polish for the pre-patch itself, we might never know. What we do know is that the community is VERY eager to get into the pre-patch, with its fast leveling speeds, level squish, new player experience, invasion event and so much more.
We can all still hope for the 29th/30th, but it's looking more and more likely October 6th/7th is the one.

if you thought our boy Rextroy needs Corruption for his one-shots, you are wrong! In his latest video, Bloodthirst crits for 600K, and the combo is one of the more complicated ones by far and includes buff stacking, gear swapping, and PvP scaling.
In the following paragraphs, Rextroy talks in depth on how to perform the devastating combo.

Pirate's Day is once again upon us! Blizzard have posted an official preview of the activities for this year, and you can also check out our own guide here. Booty Bay is the place to be today, as the event has gone live and you can grab the achievement and have some fun roleplaying a pirate!
      Pirate's Day (source)
Hoist sail and make way for Booty Bay because Pirate’s Day begins September 19!
Bring Your Sea Shanty to Booty Bay
Pirates have taken over the goblin town of Booty Bay and Captain DeMeza is recruiting any scurvy dog she can into her buccaneer ranks. Visit her or her henchmen in the capital cities if the pirate’s life is for you!
Feeling out of place in Booty Bay without a proper costume? Don’t worry. /Dance one little jig with the Dread Captain DeMeza and she’ll be impressed enough to press you into her crew and outfit you properly. If you get attached to your new look, you can do the quest You’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat! Succeed, and you’ll get an Emergency Pirate Outfit (or five) for when Pirate’s Day is but a distant memory and your inner pirate is clawing to get out.
What good is a pirate without an avian companion on their shoulder? Captain DeMeza (for the exchange of a few shiny coins) can help you call forth a temporary companion named Petey to take with you wherever you sail.
From time to time the captain will shout for a brave party to take on a terror of the deeps–an elite shark known as Ol’Eary. Make sure you have a hearty crew with you or you could become just so much chum in the waters of the bay.
      Join the Beach Party
Once you and your crew have helped the captain handle Ol’Eary, you can celebrate with the crew at a little beach party just south of Booty Bay. Those with the Feat of Strength "Advast Ye, Admiral" can also purchase a toy from Edward Techt–the Jolly Roger to show off their dedication to the cause.
If you’re really feeling generous, you can also purchase a Big Bag of Booty from Captain DeMeza and spread the wealth around to all your pirate pals in a burst of glittery glory.
