Windwalker Monk Guide for Mists of Pandaria Classic
Welcome to our Windwalker Monk DPS guide for World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria. In this guide, you'll find everything you need to know about playing a Windwalker Monk in a raid setting. Much of the information also applies to both normal and heroic dungeons.
Is Windwalker Monk Viable in Mists of Pandaria Classic?
Windwalker Monk is a highly viable and powerful specialization in Mists of Pandaria Classic. Its greatest strengths lie in AoE and cleave situations, where it possesses all the necessary tools to lead the damage meters. While its single-target performance is comparatively weaker, it still remains a class you want to bring to raids.
In addition to its strong damaging capabilities, Windwalker Monks are highly mobile and possess excellent personal survival cooldowns, enabling them to effectively mitigate significant damage in raid environments.
Windwalkers use Energy like rogues and Chi as their ressources in combat. The majority of your damage will from Chi abilities, while Energy-based abilities are mostly used to generate Chi.
The most mobile class in the game.
One of the best AoE damage classes in the game.
Decent single-target damage.
Excellent survivability.
Challenging playstyle.
Can only do either single-target damage OR AoE, not both at the same time.
Challenging playstyle can be hard to master.
Optimal damage rotation needs time to build up, so it is less bursty.
Best Races for Windwalker Monk
Until sims are out and working, it is not 100% certain, which races are the best. The guide will be updated accordingly. For now, most likely the following:
Alliance: Pandaren.
Epicurean doubles the Agility gained from the
Well Fed
food buff, which means 300 extra Agility (Attack power and Crit chance increase)
and makes Pandas the best Alliance raid in PVE. For PVP, Pandaren are also
quite good, as
Quaking Palm gives you an instant cast 4-seconds
incapitating effect on a 2-minutes cooldown.
Horde: Orc.
As in most previous expansions, Blood Fury and
Axe Specialization
are two of the most powerful racial abilities for Melee DPS. Blood Fury provides
a strong Attack Power buff for 15 seconds every 2 minutes, while the Axe Specialization
comes with 1% extra Expertise for Axes and Fist Weapons.
Best Professions for Windwalker Monk
Engineering is basically the best profession for any classs, as it
provides
Synapse Springs, which provides 1920 Agility for 10 seconds. That ability
stacks well with
Tigereye Brew. Besides the Synapse Springs, Engineering offers very useful
tools like
Nitro Boosts, explosives, teleporters or wormhole generators.
While all professions are kind of equal for Monks,
Tailoring has a small edge, because when the cloak
enchant
Swordguard Embroidery procs, this 4000 Attack Power proc can be
stacked with other cooldowns for the giga pump experience.
Here is a little summary of all professions and what they do:
- Tailoring: Provides a gain of 4000 Attack Power for 15 seconds through
Swordguard Embroidery.
- Blacksmithing: Provides a 320 Agility gain through two extra sockets (Bracers and Gloves), in
which you can fit two extra
Brilliant Primordial Ruby.
- Jewelcrafting: Provides a 320 Agility gain through the ability of using two
Delicate Serpent's Eye.
- Alchemy: Provides an 320 Agility gain to your flask through
Mixology.

Enchant Ring - Greater Agility.
- Engineering: Provides +1,920 Agility for 10 seconds every minute through
Synapse Springs.
- Inscription: Provides a 320 Agility gain through
Secret Tiger Claw Inscription.
- Leatherworking: Provides a 320 Agility gain through
Fur Lining - Agility and
Primal Leg Reinforcements, a much cheaper version of
Shadowleather Leg Armor.
- Herbalism: Provides a 480 Haste Rating gain in average through
Lifeblood.
Monk Addons and Macros
Addons and macros are beneficial to Monks in Mists of Pandaria, because they enhance gameplay efficiency by automating complex sequences of actions and providing crucial real-time information, such as cooldown timers and enemy debuffs. This allows Monks to maximize their damage output and responsiveness in both PvE and PvP scenarios.
