Long Sword Changes in Title Update 4
Title Update 4, released on December 19th, is the final major update, featuring the fearsome Gogmazios siege. This brings in upgraded Artian weapons that have a significant impact on ideal builds, alongside new armor sets and the ability to transcend armor - providing better decoration slots. Due to all of this, there's a significant shake up from previously recommended endgame sets.
A quick breakdown of Long Sword changes on this page as of the title update are as follows:
- A new section focused on the Gogmazios Artian Weapon upgrade path and ideal skills to pick up has been added. This provides information on best practices for reinforcements, and skills to aim for.
- The ideal endgame set has seen significant changes. With the benefits of transcending paired with Gogmazios Artian weapons providing a skill, the options are significantly increased.
- Talismans remain the chase goal for your endgame gearsets - with rank 7 and 8 having access to skill combinations that, if lucky, can outperform craftable options.
Artian Weapons for the Long Sword
Artian Weapons are the strongest weapons available at the endgame and are worth the investment if you're willing to grind out the ideal rolls. Especially with the addition of Gogmazios upgrades, you're looking to have a fully complete set using a strong Rarity 8 Dimensius, and transition it to the upgraded version after.
Your options on what primary attribute are any element option if you're countering a specific monster, though Paralysis or Blast are universal options if you want something open for use against any monster type. Aim to use Attack base parts to craft the weapon, and then ideally you're looking for the following reinforcements:
- Sharpness Boost +30
- Attack Boost +5
- Attack Boost +5
- Attack Boost +5
- Attack Boost +5
These can shift around some depending on which base parts you used, and it's not the end of the world if you end up with a mix. Aim to avoid Element reinforcements if possible.
For the 3 decoration slots, there are a few options available to Artian weapons due to the extra flexibility provided by 3-slots. Some key picks are:
- Critical Boost III recommended - Long Sword loves Affinity, and this just makes it better.
- Master's Touch recommended - most efficient Sharpness option when paired with our high Affinity builds.
- Critical Boost II - can slot into the third to max out the skill.
- Razor Sharp III / Handicraft I - alternative to Master's Touch if you're looking for a more consistent cadence to your Sharpness management.
- Mind's Eye III - this is a bit more complicated. This effectively makes your damage much more consistent if you're not good at hitting weak hitzones. This makes your maximum potential slightly lower, but drastically improves your room for error. Very efficient if you can fit it in.
Gogmazios Artian Long Sword - Headsman's Hamus
After defeating Gogmazios, you'll receive Tarred Devices, which can be used by Gemma to reinforce the previous Artian Weapon, Dimensius, into a much stronger version. When upgraded, your previous Long Sword will have its Element or Status maintained, but gain additional bonuses to either Attack, Affinity, or Element depending on the devices used. You should be using three Attack infusions. It will also gain one random Set Bonus Skill and one random Group Skill from a pool, and allow you to reinforce the the 5 bonuses it rolls. Reinforcements and Skills can be rerolled for additional materials.
Your goal is to acquire both Gore Magala's Tyranny and Lord's Soul, but the priority is always the set bonus skill first to match your armor set. Your ideal reinforcements are two Attack EX, two Attack III, and one Sharpness EX. You can only ever have two of any level of a given reinforcement per attribute though, so if you roll a combination of extra Sharpness or Affinity, these can sometimes be worth keeping.
Due to the nature of acquiring your ideal Artian weapon, and how much armor sets now rely on this random roll, it may be difficult to assemble the endgame set provided on this page. Due to that, below is a list of skills to prioritize while working toward the complete setup:
Armor Skills:
- Gore Magala's Tyranny - 2-piece
- Quick Sheathe - Level 3
- Antivirus - Level 3 (With the Gore set bonus)
- Agitator - Level 5
- Weakness Exploit - Level 5
- Lord's Soul - 3-piece
- Maximum Might - Level 3
- Counterstrike - Level 3
- Burst - Level 1
- Flayer - Level 1
- Adrenaline Rush - Level 1-5
- Coalescence - Level 1-3
Weapon Skills:
- Critical Boost - Level 5
- Master's Touch - Level 3
- Elemental Attack - Level 3 (Depending on Element)
- Attack Boost - Level 1-5
- Critical Eye - Level 1-5
Element Counters
The absolute strongest options involve using element counters on specific monsters (especially on Rank 9 hunts), as these come at no cost to raw power on Artian weapons. You still want to aim for the same all-attack infusions, though having a Long Sword of each element available for match-ups is your ultimate goal. Below are some drop-down lists of monsters countered by each element:
-
Fire - Click for Match-ups
- Blangonga
- Congalala
- Doshaguma
- Gore Magala
- Gypceros
- Hirabami
- Jin Dahaad
- Lala Barina
- Lagiacrus
- Nerscylla
- Gogmazios (Solid)

Endgame Talismans for Long Sword
Added as a bonus update during Title Update 2, hunts against monsters that are 9 star and above can now also reward appraisable talismans. These can come with skill and decoration slots otherwise unobtainable from the smithy, and should you be lucky enough, can push your build to the next level. Rolling a perfect talisman is an extremely big time investment, so sometimes it's best to just look out for options that are good enough. Big ticket skills to look out for are:
- Attack Boost
- Master's Touch
- Critical Eye
- Razor Sharp
- Handicraft
Acquiring any of these skills - especially alongside a weapon decoration slot - outpaces any other option available to craft. If you can't get hold of these though, generally a Counter Charm III, Challenger Charm III or Exploiter Charm II will suffice, depending on preference. Remember that when you slot in a talisman that provides weapon skills, you may need to adjust your decorations to still provide desirable armor skills.
Arch-Tempered Monsters and Gamma Sets
Traditionally the most powerful armor sets available in Monster Hunter, in Wilds the Gamma sets are being released with each Title Update. These grant access to the Lord's Soul 3-set bonus - a powerful additional cheat death effect - while coming with a slightly higher budget for strong skills. The sets currently released are:
- Rey Dau - this set focuses on Latent Power, which while a generally less appealing skill comes on very efficient pieces. With the advent of Title Update 4, it's become a less appealing method of access to Lord's Soul however.
- Uth Duna - this set features Peak Performance prominently, which is generally very difficult to optimize. Despite that, the Legs allow for some interesting build opportunities, and can be used as a way to access Quick Sheathe easily.
- Nu Udra - this set features Burst and Resentment, which aren't typically skills Long Sword stacks. However, the Chest in particular is a powerful piece utilized in endgame builds.
- Jin Dahaad - this set features Agitator and Foray, and while it's very efficient, with the release of Gogmazios it isn't used in ideal endgame sets.
Long Sword HR 50+ Endgame Armor Set
After reaching Hunter Rank 50, you unlock access to the majority of endgame monsters, and will slowly unlock more event quests as you progress up to 100. Currently we have a curated primary endgame build, and any variant builds included in the tabs below.
Long Sword Endgame Sets
Gogmazios Transcended Armor Set
With the addition of Gogmazios Artian Weapons and Transcended Armor, the optimal set takes full advantage of the freedom to build around high efficiency pieces. It maintains Lord's Soul, and is centered around Gore Magala's Tyranny 2-piece to reach a comfortable Affinity level.
| Gear | Decorations | |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Headsman's Hamus |
|
| Head | G. Rathalos Helm β (Transcended) |
|
| Chest | Udra Miremail γ |
|
| Gloves | Gogmazios Vambraces α |
|
| Waist | Gore Coil β |
|
| Legs | Duna Wildgreaves γ |
|
| Talisman | Challenger Charm III | N/A |
The first priority when working toward the ideal endgame set is to acquire the Gore Magala 2-piece, and augment it with three points in Antivirus, ideally using the Waist to complete the set and three 1-slot decorations. Maintaining Lord's Soul is your next goal, with the ideal Uth Duna and Nu Udra pieces, with the Chest working toward Counterstrike and the Legs activating Quick Sheathe.
After reaching those major goals, you should be making sure to maintain both Maximum Might and Counterstrike at level 3, while using your 3-slot decoration slots to reach level 5 in Agitator, and then Weakness Exploit. Always try to have a single point in both Burst and Flayer as well, if you have spare slots. Your standard Talisman choice is Challenger Charm III to help with this, though you may have to shuffle decorations around if you have a particularly strong Golden Age Charm available.
When it comes to weapon decorations, due to how high the Affinity of the build is, it's always recommended to max out Critical Boost all the way to level 5, and utilize Master's Touch for your Sharpness needs.
Gogmazios Transcended Armor Set Skills and Set Bonuses
- Critical Boost - Level 5
- Master's Touch - Level 1
- Agitator - Level 5
- Weakness Exploit - Level 5
- Counterstrike - Level 3
- Maximum Might - Level 3
- Quick Sheathe - Level 3
- Antivirus - Level 3
- Constitution - Level 2
- Burst - Level 1
- Flayer - Level 1
- Gore Magala's Tyranny - 2-piece
- Lord's Soul - 3-piece
Lord's Soul Comfort Endgame Armor Set
With the addition of Uth Duna Gamma pieces, while the overall set is fairly undesirable the Legs have opened up a lot of room to build for comfort and flexibility. This allows for activation of Lord's Soul without fully committing to Rey Dau and Latent Power, and provides a wealth of extra 1-slot decorations for customization. This works well while building yourself up to the full Gogmazios Endgame setup.
| Gear | Decorations | |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Blazing Rafel |
|
| Head | Rey Sandhelm γ |
|
| Chest | Lagiacrus Mail β |
|
| Gloves | Rey Sandbraces γ |
|
| Waist | Lagiacrus Coil β |
|
| Legs | Duna Wildgreaves γ |
|
| Talisman | Counterattack Charm III | N/A |
Combining two Rey Dau pieces the extremely Uth Duna Legs allows you to comfortably activate Lord's Soul while effectively covering your Quick Sheathe requirement immediately. This leaves room for well itemized Lagiacrus pieces to pick up the 2-piece and some easy points of Weakness Exploit and Maximum Might.
Decorations are spent finishing up Weakness Exploit, Mighty and Counter while making sure to grab the high value point in Burst. One 3-slot decoration is free, with your choice being either a second point in Agitator or a single, efficient point in Latent Power to capitalize on the Rey Dau 2-piece. Your Talisman is best served on Adrenaline Rush due to it providing 3 points compared to most other skills only granting 2.
The Zoh Shia weapon becomes a strong crafted weapon option while you work toward your Artian, providing excellent raw, high sharpness and some Dragon element on top of base affinity. The skill is reasonably good as well, though not enough to beat out well crafted Artian weapons. While using it, aim to maintain Master's Touch and three points in Critical Boost, and transition to Artian as soon as you build a strong one.
Lord's Soul Comfort Armor Set Skills and Set Bonuses
- 4 Free 1-slot Decorations
- Weakness Exploit - Level 5
- Critical Boost - Level 3
- Maximum Might - Level 3
- Quick Sheathe - Level 3
- Counterstrike - Level 3
- Evade Extender - Level 2
- Stamina Surge - Level 2
- Whiteflame Torrent - Level 1
- Master's Touch - Level 1
- Burst - Level 1
- Agitator - Level 1
- Latent Power - Level 1
- Lord's Soul - 3-piece
- Rey Dau's Voltage - 2-piece
- Leviatha's Fury - 2-piece
Long Sword Standard Endgame Armor Set
This set is easy to build when getting started with late game High Rank hunts, making use of the Lagiacrus armor set. It pairs this with the tried and true Gore Magala 2-piece to reach consistently high Affinity levels while maintaining premium skills.
| Gear | Decorations | |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Blazing Rafel |
|
| Head | Lagiacrus Helm β |
|
| Chest | Gore Mail β |
|
| Gloves | G. Arkveld Vambraces β |
|
| Waist | Lagiacrus Coil β |
|
| Legs | Gore Greaves β |
|
| Talisman | Counterattack Charm III | N/A |
As you reach full endgame status most comfort is sacrificed for one goal - reach 100% Affinity to make use of the very efficient management of Master's Touch. The best way to do this is maxing out both Weakness Exploit and Maximum Might, while grabbing the 2-piece Gore Magala to activate Antivirus. This pairs well with Lagiacrus pieces for highly efficient skill pairings, and while Azure Bolt isn't a particularly good bonus, it is free. Lastly, always make sure to save one 3-slot decoration to cover the efficient point in Burst.
This also allows you to use the added Counter Attack Charm III talisman for some efficient Adrenaline Rush points. Leftover slots are spent on the mandatory Quick Sheathe for Long Sword, and Counter decorations in 2-slots. Finally, the build is so well budgeted that you have 3 entire 1-slot decorations to spare, allowing you to fill in with comfort skills like Constitution or Divine Blessing depending on preference.
The Zoh Shia weapon becomes a strong crafted weapon option while you work toward your Artian, providing excellent raw, high sharpness and some Dragon element on top of base affinity. The skill is reasonably good as well, though not enough to beat out well crafted Artian weapons.
When it comes to weapon decorations however you're much more limited in how many you can slot in, with the Zoh Shia sword having one of each slot size. With the extremely heavy investment into affinity, Master's Touch is your best sharpness option and should always be placed in the 3-slot. For the other two, Critical Boost is by far the best option available in both the 1-slot and 2-slot, but can't be maxed out.
HR 50+ Armor Set Skills and Set Bonuses
- Weakness Exploit - Level 5
- Critical Boost - Level 3
- Adrenaline Rush - Level 3
- Maximum Might - Level 3
- Counterstrike - Level 3
- Quick Sheathe - Level 3
- Antivirus - Level 3
- Evade Window - Level 2
- Whiteflame Torrent - Level 1
- Master's Touch - Level 1
- Burst - Level 1
- Flinch Free - Level 1
- Gore Magala's Tyranny - 2-piece
- Leviathan's Fury - 2-piece
Long Sword Starter Armor Set - HR 10
The first set you should aim to be crafting as you begin your journey into High Rank is a mixture of pieces to keep access to Quick Sheathe while grabbing as much offense and comfort as possible to farm hunter ranks efficiently.
As your access to decorations will still be quite limited, while appealing it's not worth the time to go out of your way to farm them as the ones you're on the look out far can be crafted with melding points quite early on. Once you gain access to some of these decorations though, it opens up room to start pivoting to more offensive pieces without relying on the Alloy Set to fill out gaps.
| Gear | Decorations | |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Wyvern Blade "Verde" I | N/A |
| Head | G. Ebony Helm | N/A |
| Chest | G. Arkveld Mail | N/A |
| Gloves | G. Arkveld Vambraces | N/A |
| Waist | G. Ebony Coil | N/A |
| Legs | Alloy Greaves α | N/A |
| Talisman | Sheathe Charm II | N/A |
Note - until Sheathe Charm is at level 2, use Alloy Coil α in your Legs slot.
This set will be more than sufficient to farm up some hunter ranks and progress through the chapters to unlock more difficult enemies. You have an option between either Wyvern Blade Verde or Rey Tonitrus II as they both use Rathian parts, though the extra Affinity on the Poison Long Sword alongside status build-up being quite fast for the weapon type makes it the recommended option.
Your priority hunts are Rathian and Ajarakan early to craft both your weapon to bring it up to blue sharpness, and to level your Sheathe Charm to level 2, allowing you to shift away from Alloy Coil α as early as possible. The 2-piece Guardian Ebony Set brings 2 points in Burst and a slight bump in power (though the main benefit comes from the first point), and the Arkveld set also heals when you pop wounds, adding a good amount of comfort on top.
HR 10 Armor Set Skills and Set Bonuses
- Quick Sheathe - Level 3
- Burst - Level 2
- Flayer - Level 2
- Critical Status - Level 2
- Poison Duration Up - Level 1
- Blight Resistance - Level 1
- Bleeding Resistance - Level 1
- Flinch Free - Level 1
- Guardian's Pulse - 3-piece
- Ebony Odogaron's Power - 2-piece
- Guardian Arkveld's Vitality - 2-piece
Long Sword Mid-Game Armor Sets - HR 20-40+
As you progress through High Rank and unlock stronger monsters, we can start to to form a build closer to the final endgame sets and cutting Low Rank armor pieces. This comes in two stages, with the first being available as you reach 6 star hunts opening up more Alpha and Beta sets, and the second with access to Gore Magala at 40+.
We've separated these two stages into the tabs below depending on what gear you currently have access to:
Long Sword Mid-Game HR Sets
Long Sword HR20-39 Build
| Gear | Decorations | |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Wyvern Blade "Blood" I | N/A |
| Head | G. Ebony Helm α | N/A |
| Chest | G. Arkveld Mail | N/A |
| Gloves | G. Arkveld Vambraces | Sheath |
| Waist | G. Ebony Coil β | N/A |
| Legs | Mizutsune Greaves β | N/A |
| Talisman | Sheathe Charm II | N/A |
This set still maintains the 2-piece from Arkveld for some comfort, though it's time to start looking at more offense and move away from it as you get closer to endgame. With the addition of Mizutsune's set, the legs provide an extremely efficient way to reach Burst level 5 early. While ordinarily stacking this is inefficient, the stronger alternatives like Weakness Exploit aren't easy to max out in the mid-game, so this is a great alternative.
By this stage you should have pivoted to a Sheathe Charm II which can be paired with a single Sheath decoration to maintain your level 3 Quick Sheathe. Wyvern Blade "Blood" I from Rathalos is an excellent catch-all mid-game craft that will last through to the end-game, providing Critical Boost, high raw and solid sharpness.
Your priority hunts after unlocking them becomes Rathalos, Guardian Ebony Odogaron and Mizutsune in that order to pick up these crafts. This set should bring you toward the end of the High Rank unlocks at 35+, allowing you to access the most powerful sets available.
HR 20-39 Armor Set Skills and Set Bonuses
- Burst - Level 5
- Quick Sheathe - Level 3
- Critical Boost - Level 3
- Flayer - Level 2
- Earplugs - Level 1
- Blight Resistance - Level 1
- Guardian's Pulse - 3-piece
- Ebony Odogaron's Power - 2-piece
- Guardian Arkveld's Vitality - 2-piece
Long Sword HR 40+ Mid-game Build
After unlocking Gore Magala and High Rank Arkveld you can start gathering Hunter Symbol III, opening up crafts to move toward a much more focused offensive setup. By now you should have 3 Sheath decorations to keep it active, though if not you have the option to directly meld them.
| Gear | Decorations | |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Stahlrecht |
|
| Head | Xu Wu Helm β |
|
| Chest | Arkvulcan Mail β |
|
| Gloves | G. Arkveld Vambraces β |
|
| Waist | Gore Coil β |
|
| Legs | Gore Greaves β |
|
| Talisman | Exploiter Charm II | N/A |
In a fully optimized set a lot of comfort is sacrificed to leverage as much damage as possible. You always want to max out Weakness Exploit while having one slot free to get a single point of Burst, as it gives the biggest returns without needing heavy investment.
Using the Gore Magala set alongside some Sane decorations grants a large 15% Affinity bonus when recovering from Frenzy, which is automatically applied with the 2-piece effect. Other skills picked up here each have their reasons to round out the set, so you can click for notes on each here below.
-
Maximum Might - Click for Notes
Gives a 30% Affinity bonus when at full Stamina, which is incredibly efficient for the investment so long as you play around it. This is the best way to push yourself close to 100% when you overcome Frenzy. -
Consitution - Click for Notes
While there aren't enough slots to fully max this, reducing the cost of using Foresight Slash to maintain Maximum Might more consistently is a good way to spend the remaining decoration slot. -
Adrenaline Rush - Click for Notes
Gives a strong raw attack boost when successfully using Foresight Slash, which is a big payoff when played correctly. Since you will already be maxing out other 3-slot skills that have high value, this is the best last option. Counterstrike can also be considered here if you're using Iai Spirit Slash more frequently, but this is easier to play around.
The Gore Magala weapon is also your best monster-related craft, giving a high amount of raw, white sharpness and affinity. It also comes with Dragon element which is a more universal counter. As decorations are a bit harder to come by, some options in place of what's suggested if you don't have access to Critical Boost are:
- Razor Sharp - simplest way of extending your sharpness bar, but needs 3 points to really feel it.
- Master's Touch - affinity is high enough that this is very efficient, though requires using your 3-slot.
- Handicraft - less efficient than the above two but can be slotted in as an extra.
- Attack - really needs you to reach 4-5 points to get the full value out of it, but is a solid offensive alternative.
- Enhancer - while it's quite easy to get to red gauge, this gives you more room to use Crimson combos without needing to worry about it. More of a comfort pick.

- Weakness Exploit - Level 5
- Adrenaline Rush - Level 4
