A new patch has hit the Hearthstone live servers introducing Recruit A Friend, a new Shaman hero, game mode icons, new quests and more!

The 1.61 GB patch hasn't brought anything big (like a new adventure or balance changes), but it still has some pretty nice features. Hearthstone will now have its very own Recruit A Friend system: you can use a new button on your interface to invite a friend to Hearthstone. When one of your recruited friends reaches a combined hero level of 20, you will earn a Classic Card Pack (maximum 4) and the new Shaman murloc hero, Morgl the Oracle! A separate blog post about Recruit A Friend has been posted here, while you can watch a preview for Morgl below:

The patch also brings the previously teased UI changes: you can finally see in which game mode you are in (it also works when you are spectating your friends). Moreover, you can preview the Tinyfin Beach card back that will be awarded for achieving Rank 20 during the month of July 2016. Lastly, there are some artwork updates (notably for golden Innervate, Nourish and Voidwalker) and general bug fixes.

In this update Recruit A Friend has come to Hearthstone! Recruit a pal and you’ll convince Morgl the Oracle, the wise Murloc Shaman, to join your roster of Heroes. We also added a new card back, made a few visual improvements, and fixed some bugs!

Read on for the details!

  • Recruit A Friend is here!
    • Invite friends to play Hearthstone and gain cool rewards!
      • Pick up the new Shaman hero, Morgl The Oracle, when your first recruit achieves 20 combined levels across all classes.
      • Earn free Classic card packs for up to four more recruits!
      • ALL your recruits can earn a free Classic pack!

  • New icons make it easier for spectators to figure out which game mode you are playing.
  • Golden Priest, Rogue, and Neutral cards are now easier to tell apart.
  • Golden Hero Powers are now displayed correctly in the Arena.
  • Tinyfin Beach – Get this card back by achieving Rank 20 or higher in Ranked Play mode during the month of July.

  • Silithid Swarmer is now a Beast.
  • Khadgar’s portrait now has a drop shadow.
  • The Collection Manager now more accurately displays new cards.
  • The experience bar will no longer fill up after winning a game at max level.
  • Wild card rarity now displays properly when viewing flavor text.
  • Golden C’Thun’s buff animation is now gold, gold, GOLD!
  • Players should no longer appear as UNKNOWN after reconnecting.
  • [iOS] Hearthstone will no longer crash when the device is in a certain orientation when the game is launched.
  • [Android] Taking Fatigue damage after running out of cards will no longer result in a crash on Samsung Galaxy S7 devices using Snapdragon CPUs.
  • [Mobile] Fixed an issue that could prevent interaction with Heroes and Hero Powers on mobile devices.
  • [Mobile] You should no longer crash when clicking on the Social button to bring up the friends list on phones.
  • Fixed some audio, graphical, and UI issues.
(source)

There are also some undocumented changes! Reddit user William_Dawn has dug up a new quest called "Play a friend!". Its description reads "Play a friend. You both earn a reward!" and the reward is 80 Gold for both players. Moreover, the Halfhill card back, that was supposed to be the card back for this month, was pushed to November 2016.

Lastly, Hearthpwn has datamined a future co-op Tavern Brawl. It looks like it's going to a Unite against Nefarian kind of Brawl with Priest and Shaman being the two available heroes. Do you think we will see it this week?

Oh no! I want to see him :3 Did you try uploading it directly to the forums or from another site? I suggest uploading it on a site like imgur/tinypic and sharing the link with us!

By the way, any tips about the RAF thing? Did you recruit yourself or a friend helped you?

Interesting.

No  Morgl The Oracle  card back, though.  Disappointing.  I thought all new heroes had a special card back.

Meet Lady Liadrin and Khadgar. They didn't have it either. Too cheap for a card back, I guess.

Probably the most noteful change from the new patch is updated Innervate animation. Ohhh, shiny and greeney! ;)

I also started getting some in-game lags on my iOS device that weren't there before, though. And that sucks.

Yeah, same! Although I am not sure if it's my crappy wifi or there is a problem indeed. The other day, though, I was literally standing next to the router and was still getting disconnects and lags.

I played a ranked standard game on my phone earlier yet got the wild symbol around my rank. Seems like there's more off with the patch.

I was noticing weird lags on multiple iOS devices last night and this morning I saw the wild symbol too, bug it was clearly using the standard rank.

As for Recruiting, I just made an alt account (all of my friends already play Hearthstone). A good strategy is to get as many classes as you can in casual/ranked, and then level up multiple heroes that add up to level 20 instead of getting a single hero to level 20.

The patch is giving me 4 quests at a time at the moment: when I have three and I eliminate one of them, I end up with four.  It's glitched, like it only shows the most recent three in the Quest Log, but showed me four overlapping and over laying in the Tavern Brawl screen.  I don't mind.

I feel I didn't understand much about the Recruit system, Do I need to be LV 20 or less to join the promotion or I can just be recruited by loads of random people and get free packs in industrial quantity?

If you want to be recruited by your friends, yes, you need to have a combined hero level of less than 20.

If you want to recruit somebody else (or yourself), you can do it now!

Dean "Iksar" Ayala was active on Reddit and he shared his input on Paladin and Druid, as well as general expansion balance issues.
A thread on Reddit called "Fun Fact: Apart from Baku, Odd Paladin uses NO cards from this year" gathered enough attention yesterday that the Hearthstone dev chimed in. Iksar explained that if a deck is already powerful, they try not to print more cards for it. This, of course, led to the question if Team 5 will ever print good minions for Paladin. Iksar said that they want to tone down printing aggro cards for Paladin and that the class will lose a lot of power with the yearly rotation.
      IksarHS
Generally the idea is that when there is a very powerful archetype in one expansion, we try not to give that archetype additional powerful cards so other archetypes can catch up. I think the fact you state here has more to do with intentionally not making more powerful cards for Odd Paladin than it has to do with all the cards in Odd Paladin being so powerful they could never be reasonably replaced. (source)

Both odd and even are fairly aggressive or tempo decks. It'll be difficult to make powerful aggro/tempo cards in paladin next year, but there is a lot of space outside those archetypes. Paladin also loses a ton to rotation.  (source)
Someone was actually happy that Odd Paladin didn't get nerfed and Ayala responded that the team is always cautious when it comes to card changes. When one deck goes down, another one - perhaps an even more annoying one - takes its place.
      IksarHS
Yeah. Something we have to consider when thinking about card changes is what the fallout might be. It's a little scary to consider that a change to Odd Paladin might result in something like Kingsbane Rogue being the most played deck. While I love Kingsbane as a card and deck, I don't think it's the kind of strategy that is very fun if it's the highest population deck for an extended time period. (source) The initial response perplexed some people: if Odd Paladin is too good to get new cards, why does Druid keep getting powerful cards like Dreampetal Florist and Flobbidinous Floop? Iksar said that while the aforementioned cards promote more variants of Druid decks, the team wants to address the fact that the core cards for almost all Druid archetypes are more or less the same.
      IksarHS
The thought was essentially that Dreampetal might improve Maly and Togwaggle a small amount, but not enough to be more powerful than decks they already had like Token Druid and Taunt Druid. I think without Dreampetal and Floop, there would probably be less variants of Druid. You can argue that is good or bad :). (source)

Ideally every class has something in the tier 2+ range every set. For Druid, I think it's just that cards like Wild Growth, Nourish, Swipe, Naturalize, Branching Paths, UI, Plague, Spellstone, Malfurion, etc make up a core that is very good and has been around for a long time. There is some player fatigue with anything that is powerful and high population for a year+. Mike has mentioned this before, I think it's likely we'll do something to address Druid decks feeling similar in a way that is more long-term.  (source)
There was a question about possibly nerfing Baku the Mooneater Hero Powers especially for Paladin and Warrior. The answer was the team has actually considered this, but they are still evaluating the current meta (presumably after the release of Rastakhan's Rumble).
      IksarHS
Considered both actually. Odd Warrior is a deck that I think is cool if it shows up in a very specific meta then goes away. If Odd Warrior were to find a long-term place in the 5-10% play rate range I think it would be time to seriously think about a change to the deck. For Odd Paladin, it's the best deck in the game on most days. As 'best decks in the game' go, I'd say it's not so bad. There are some clear counter strategies and most games have a good amount of interesting minion combat. The downside of course is that it's been around for 8 months or so and that's a long time for any deck to see a very high play rate. For now, we're still in the set evaluation phase, the meta from a data perspective is still changing every day. (source) Lastly, Iksar answered a question about how expansion balance works, given that there are internal designs of 2-3 expansions in advance.
      IksarHS
We come back for two weeks of balance focused playtesting pretty close to set release. We also do a lot of playtesting, so even if we're 2-3 sets ahead, we've been playtesting each of those individual metas for a couple months each (in addition to other tasks). For example, most all card design is complete for the first set of next year, but we'll wait until Rastakhan meta has settled to make all final balance decisions for that set. (source)

The single-player adventure, introduced along with the Rastakhan's Rumble expansion, is now available in all regions.
The Rumble Run is very similar to the Dungeon Run and the Monster Hunt, in the sense that you will face eight opponents and you will build your deck as you progress using card bundles, passives and powerful minions exclusive to this game mode.
Your hero will always be Rikkar, a young Troll champion eager to prove himself. In the beginning of your run, you will be offered three different Shrines (more on them in the next paragraph) from three different classes. This initial decision basically equals to you picking a Class for this run. The other eight classes will be your opponents.

Shrines exist as minions on the board and they have powerful effects. Each class has three different Shrines and each starting Shrine comes with a complementary deck of 10 minions that synergise with it. When a Shrine dies, it goes dormant for 3 turns and its effect isn't active until it comes back to life.
Subsequently, you will build your deck using card bundles, neutral passive abilities and class-specific minions exclusive to the Rumble Run.
If you finish the Rumble Run once with any class, you will earn this card back:

Good luck on this new adventure and we'll soon have a detailed guide on it!
