Allied Races & Pandaren Death Knight Textures Added on 8.3 PTR

Recommended Posts

lT8vfLE.jpg

Allied Races and the Pandaren will be finally able to become Death Knights in the near future, as Blizzard added creature textures together with encrypted sound files for Bolvar Fordragon and Darion Mograine in 8.3 Build 32151.

It seems Bolvar is going to forge a new line of Death Knights in Patch 8.3. Death Knight textures for all Allied Races (Including Lightforged Draenei) have been added to the game along with encrypted sound files for Bolvar Fordragon and Highlord Darion Mograine, who's likely going to narrate the new Death Knight intro. There's also an encrypted map of an area, which is likely the one of Icecrown Citadel.

It seems there's going to be a brand new Death Knight intro, but at this time, we don't know if the Allied Races are going to start at level 20 or 55 and how that's going to affect Heritage Armor acquisition.

Undead are capable of using the light (there are even some undead npcs with holy spells), must chose not to, because it causes them pain while channeling it or being healed by it. Besides, wherever is light, there is always a shadow/darkness, these are the opposite forces on a magic spectrum in Warcraft. Two sides of a coin, one may say. Once they introduced Tauren paladins and priests, all bets have been off, races can adapt after all. Some races might have more or less people with affinity or aptitude for magic (or certain types of it), there are also cultural factors, but nearly all classes and specs can exist. I think more races could have been paladins, because they've already got priests, so it's a matter of some training. It's different from many fantasy settings, where for example Dwarves are incapable of using most (if not all) schools of magic, while here they are one of races with most options available to them.

And the justification on Tauren priests and paladins was a matter of balancing the Night Elf focus on the Moon (Mu'sha) by delving into the Sun (An'she), and also ended up being part of the rework of Balance Druids concerning solar vs lunar.

Wonder if that means that all races will be monks soon? Since only Worgen, Goblin and Lightforged Draenei can't be

We also gotta see some tauren rogues in action, finally. Had to wait for 15 years for that.

Possible justification was about their starting zones being timelocked, but even that makes no sense, as there have been monk trainers retroactively added to older zones, including TBC ones. I think the only reason LF Draenei did not have monks was to balance them with HM Tauren, also having only 5 classes. But that's out of the window now, since Vulpera have one more class than Mechagnomes.

Bleah.

"Lore?   What's that, can it be eaten?"-Blizzard

Can't wait to see their "reasoning" on why Bolvar is making more DKs, why the Ebon hand is apparently OK with it, why the various factions are not caring about their greatest heroes being turned undead, etc.

Or, we'll just not get any reasoning beyond the Night Elf forsaken reasoning, "Angry at Sylvannas burning our children and family alive in our home, (hand wave hand wave mumble) so we're joining Sylvannas because Tyrande and Elune couldn't save us!"

Maybe DK starting level can be increased... Never made sense to me that they got a taste of the WOTLK story and then immediately went to Outland. I know it's less of a problem now that the leveling path has been reworked, but if Bolvar is creating DKs now clearly they should start sometime post-WOTLK.

Well I know a few people hoping that the Zandalari Trolls will be able to be DK's but changing starting zones or starting level is possible but I don't think Blizz has any intention of doing such a change.  But if Blizzard should give players a quest chain revolving around Bolvar and the Ebon Blades action leading up to 8.3 I can be down for that.  But in reality may be given an abrupt non-informative cutscene like the tidestone and the Naga in 8.2.5 and not showing how they acquired it to begin with after the events of ToS of the Legion Expansion.

Slowest movement, water walking is the most fun ability the class has and brings only combat rez

Actually with both Death's Advance (which also gives a knockback protection) and Wraithwalk DK's can be quite mobile when needed.

And you say "brings only combat rez" as if it was not a very good spell to have. Some specs in the game brings no utility at all.

Also according to warcraftlogs, Frost DKs are the 4th better spec for The Eternal Palace.

Thats how i like my draves in several fantasy books. They are warriors formed out of earth or/and stone killing hundreds of Orcs and other evil creatures (while im playing an Orc in WoW Classic ^^) . They cant use magic and if one can hes most likely evil and corrupted ^^

I love Pandaren. Most of my alts are pandaren. I think making Pandaren able to choose DK is just stupid. I don't care if I can't make a pandaren DK, it just really doesn't fit the lore. And no, I'm not happy with a story forcing pandaren DK's just so you're able to make one yourself.

all these people complaining about the lore...

Lore... changes as the game changes.

They are supposedly getting a new starting area/screen/something and its not like the LK didnt have you resurrect all kinda guys in Legion during the order hall campaign...

Thinking that no other race would be added in EVENTUALLY is pretty lame, imo.

Pretending a cohesive story isn't important in an MMO is pretty lame imo.     WoW's story and lore used to be top of the line.    You run around the plaguelands and you find books with random bits of lore just on the ground or on the shelves in 5-mans, not to mention all the npcs just willing to talk about history and whatnot.

Today?    Rexxar joins the war because at some point we didn't see "Jaina, she's killed too many".    This is of course dropped and never seen again and they're standing next to each other in perfect happiness in the latest cinematics.    We get Night Elfs who were blitz'd in a suprised attack by Sylvannas and her horde, brutally killed as they watched Sylvannas burn their children and families alive in their home.    So of course they join Sylvannas as forsaken because reasons "We're joining Sylvannas because Elune/Tyrande couldn't save us from Sylvannas!".     We get like, at a stretch 15 vulpera who "help" in a loose stretch of the word, a few horde and zandalari forces who crashed in the desert.    They are then brutally attacked by purge squads using flame throwers, because reasons, and forced to join the horde for safety.

I could go on, but the lore part of the game is becoming a sad joke.   A really sad one.

maybe i misspoke.

LORE isnt changing from what I have gleaned just from this literally alpha version of the 'changes' we're about to see.

They can show how NEW Death Knights are raised without changing the pre-existing lore even one iota.

I was wondering the same thing. They are seen as the holiest of holy and now they can be Death Knights? So, what does that actually make them?? I am actually kind of confused as to how they will play that one out. I mean, it doesn't really make much sense.......

Here are all the individual daily summaries, as well as other related articles:
Ny'alotha Mythic Race Day 1: 7 Down, 5 to Go

      _____________________________________________________________
Update 2: It's 6 down and 6 to go as Complexity Limit take a significant lead, 2 bosses ahead of everyone else.
Update: We have 3 bosses down already, with Complexity Limit and Midwinter fighting it out for the top spot, and I forgot to link to Method's live site coverage where you can follow the race without checking the streams.
Mythic Ny'alotha has arrived and the race starts today (for US and OC guilds at least), with two streaming events to watch! We'll also be doing our usual daily coverage in the form of summaries every morning (and more if something unusual happens) and this is the place for all those articles!
The race should be a damn good one this time around, if the Eternal Palace is anything to go by, as Method and Limit were very close at the end there. As the final raid of the expansion, this one holds a bit more prestige then others, and with Method having taken 3 of the major races and only lost the smaller, Crucible one, the pressure will be even higher for them to maintain their throne.
You can check out the streaming events which are already live right here (Limit not going for a slightly different name for their event is an interesting choice):
Method's Race to World First Ny'alotha stream Complexity-Limit's Ny'alotha Race to World First stream The US/OC servers are scheduled to come up at 7 PM CET, under 3 hours from now, but might come up sooner as well. Meanwhile, you can check out all our previous coverage of the race, including the recent N'Zoth double-loot drama (which still hasn't been resolved) and the WF Heroic kill on him.

Day 1 aka US day of the race is done and EU servers are about to come up, with the EU guilds waking up to find only 5 bosses left in the raid. This is actually more than some people expected, considering the massive number of bosses present in the raid. As you might expect Complexity Limit cleaned up handily with 4 of the 7 World Firsts going to them, with Midiwinter and Big Dumb Guild getting the rest. Well, let's take a look at the day's events, as well as all 7 kill videos from the guilds' streams.
The days started off pretty promising, with Wrathion, the first boss actually lasting almost half an hour! Considering previous first bosses went down in only 1 pull, this was a good omen for the raid's difficulty, and Midwinter took the very first World First of the raid, only 2 minutes ahead of Limit.

The second boss was a choice between Maut and the Prophet Skitra, and the latter went down only 20 minutes after Wrathion, with Limit taking the reins and grabbing their own first WF in Ny'alotha, with the difference between the top 2 guilds once again being around 2 minutes as Midwinter caught up quickly.

The pace was pretty consistent at the start, as another 20 minutes passed and another World First came, this time with Midwinter taking down Maut, but the gap between WF and second grew to a whole 7 minutes, with Limit and Big Dumb Guild getting Maut down around the same time.

We now also had a pretty good idea of who was pushing those kills early, with Blood Legion, Imperative and Vision joining the top 3 quickly. After the first wing aka 3 bosses were down, there were now 4 choices of boss to go for, 3 of which lead to their own unique next boss. The top guilds actually split up quite a bit here, with Limit heading to Shad'har, the dog boss, Big Dumb Guild to Dark Inquisitor Xanesh (aka Azshara's torture session, aka the football boss) and everyone else deciding to for for the bugs of the Hivemind. Big Dumb Guild got the sharp end of that particular stick, as it took them a loong time to get their boss down, while Complexity Limit came out ahead, as they got their doggie down first of the four bosses:

Next up on the World First meter was... oh, it was Limit again, as they moved back to the Hivemind and took the kill while Midwinter were clearing heroics:

It took Limit just under 3 hours to go from 3/12 to 5 and with that pretty commanding 2 boss lead, they went on to try several bosses, but after a while gave up on Ra-Den, and on the tentacle-fest that is Drest'agath, and settled on progressing on the Dark Inquisitor. But this is where Big Dumb Guild's big dumb focus and perseverance came through, as they managed to get that World first on Dark Inquisitor Xanesh and closed the gap to Limit with their 4/12 cleared.

Blood Legion were next to come closer to the top dogs, as they got the Hivemind World 2nd and joined BDG on 4/12, as Midwinter still cleared heroics. Limit soon cleaned up Xanesh and moved way from the pack to a 2-boss lead once more, just as Imperative joined that same pack, finally getting their only focus, the Hivemind down World 3rd, just ahead of Midwinter's return and World 4th on the same boss. We now had 4 guilds with 4 bosses down and Limit on 6/12 ahead of them, putting the race into its first real lull of the day.
The hotfixes might have had something to do with the lull, as they nerfed one of the more powerful Corruption effects, the heir to Infinite Stars, Echoing Void, by 20%. The nerf wasn't enough to stop Complexity Limit, however, as they pushed through and finally found another killable boss in Vexiona, making their bosses killed tally 7 and their World First count 4.

Midwinter managed to close the gap at least a little, as they got Shad'har down World 2nd and moved to 5/12, two bosses behind the leaders. Limit went back to Ra-den the Despoiled and have progressed on him until they called it a night very recently. Big Dumb Guild pushed a little longer than that, and it was worth it as they managed to also down the doggie Shad'har World 3rd, placing them on 5/12 together with Midwinter. In the end we have Limit on 7, Midwinter and BDG on 5, Blood Legion, Imperative and Club Camel on 4, 35 guilds on 3/12, 48 guilds on 2/12 and only 35 guild with just Wrathion down.
Once again thanks to Method's site progress coverage (and the exceedingly handsome fellow that runs it) for the live updates and sources, make sure to check them out for all the latest live updates - that is if you're not following Complexity Limit or Method's own 24/7 streaming events, which now have some damn impressive twitch extensions with a whole lot of info featured!

More hotfixes on the second day of the Mythic reset, with cloaks no longer dropping from M+ end of tun chests, more tameable Hunter pets in Uldum, a big Shad'har HP buff in heroic Ny'alotha, as well as some N'Zoth tuning, a big nerf to Echoing Void and more item tweaks and fixes, as well as some PvP fixes.
      January 28 (source)
      Classes
Hunter Certain aqir creatures in Uldum should now be tamable. Dungeons and Raids
Freehold Damage dealt by Captain Eudora's Powder Shot reduced by 15% on all difficulties. Ny'alotha, the Waking City Shad’har the Insatiable Increased Shad'har the Insatiable's health by 30% on Heroic difficulty. Developers’ note: This change is meant to bring the encounter in line with the rest of the instance on Heroic difficulty. N’Zoth the Corruptor The Paranoia debuff can no longer be removed through immunity effects (e.g. Paladins’ Divine Shield) on all difficulties; damage and loss of sanity from Paranoia can still be temporarily avoided by using immunities. A few of Exposed Synapses in N'Zoth's Mind have been moved a small distance. Developers’ note: This quality-of-life change should help melee characters better reach Exposed Synapses during the encounter. Items and Rewards
Cloaks no longer drop in Mythic Keystone end-of-run chests. Corrupted Items Flash of Insight (Corruption Effect) now correctly scales with the total Intellect value of the character. Echoing Void damage reduced by 20% Developer's Note: Echoing Void's design makes its damage fairly reliable and high in most combat situations. As it's less situational than some other Corruption effects, we feel it is doing too much damage per Corruption by comparison. Sk'shuul Vaz This weapon’s Obsidian Destruction (Corruption Effect) now divides its damage among targets struck and deals additional damage for each target struck, up to maximum damage dealt at 6 targets. Damage against a single target has been increased to 700% of armor (was 175% of armor). Fixed an issue which could cause Cache of Ny'alothan Treasures to display a tooltip indicating that it was Corrupted, even if it was not going to drop a Corrupted item. (The chance of your Cache item being corrupted has not changed.) Fixed an issue which allowed Obsidian Destruction and Searing Flames to ignore Line of Sight on some targets. Resolved an issue that caused crowd control that breaks on damage (Mages’ Polymorph ) to be removed by Eye of Corruption damage. Lesser Visions
Fixed a bug where the small chests found in the Lesser Visions weren't rewarding their Corrupted Mementos. Player versus Player
Resolved an issue that prevented PvP Talent weapon disarm effects (e.g. Rogues’ Dismantle) from correctly having diminishing returns on their duration when cast against players that were recently affected by other disarm effects. Resolved an issue that prevented characters from earning the Dreadflame illusion after earning the Duelist: Battle for Azeroth Season 4 achievement. World Quests
“Vuk'laz the Earthbreaker ” should now properly get pushed to Horde players.

Delve into where nightmares dwell in Ny’alotha, the Waking City, set in the Void-shrouded heart of the ancient Black Empire. Confront mad heralds and inscrutable horrors, and ultimately go eye-to-eyes with N’Zoth himself in a fateful battle for Azeroth’s survival.
Ny’alotha, the sleeping city has awakened. For the first time in millennia, N’Zoth sits on his throne within the Black Empire. His armies flood from their dark halls, once again wreaking havoc on Azeroth. As the world shudders from these invasions, a desperate plan is hatched. Champions of the Horde and Alliance are gathered to face this ancient enemy within his own realm for one final confrontation that will decide the fate of the universe.

      VISION OF DESTINY
      Wrathion, the Black Emperor
Despite all his precautions, Wrathion could not avoid succumbing to the madness that claimed his father. With his mind twisted by N’Zoth, he believes that the only way he can truly defend Azeroth is to rule it in the Old God’s name. A prince no longer, Wrathion now takes his rightful place as the Black Emperor.
      Maut
As the ancient aqir arose from the desert sands, their prophets set about the construction of an obsidian destroyer imbued with the essence of the Old Gods. Driven by an insatiable thirst for magic, Maut consumed the mana of its creators once it awoke and left their corpses to rot under the scorching sun of Uldum.
      The Prophet Skitra
A master of illusion, Skitra delights in terrorizing his victims as he breaks their perception of reality. Those who fail to see through his deceptions become lost in Ny’alotha for eternity.
