This page contains all relevant information needed for Marksmanship Hunter before the release of Mists of Pandaria Classic. Be sure to check back as we get closer to the release date, as this page will be updated with the latest information as it becomes available.

1.1.

Is Marksmanship Hunter Viable in Mists of Pandaria Classic?

Absolutely! Marksmanship is a strong choice in PvE, and will be a decent choice throughout the expansion. Marksmanship Hunters in particular have relatively weak AoE, but decent on-demand burst damage thanks to several strong shots with short cooldowns. Marksmanship will always be a worst choice for pure damage than Survival, but it will still consistently be a viable choice for all content.

Strengths icon Strengths
  • +Excellent on-demand burst single target damage.
  • +Brings a raid buff with Trueshot Aura Icon Trueshot Aura.
  • +Strong utility, including unique abilities such as Misdirection Icon Misdirection and Feign Death Icon Feign Death.
  • +One of the easiest classes to gear early on.
  • +Incredible leveling speed and solo-play ability out in the world.
Weaknesses icon Weaknesses
  • -Incredibly poor AOE and cleave damage.
  • -Pet-based class, which means you will need to micro-manage your pet sometimes.
  • -Needs some gear to scale with.
  • -Lack of defensive and self-healing cooldowns.

Best Races for Marksmanship Hunters

For Horde players, Orc is going to be the best option due to the additional pet damage and Blood Fury Icon Blood Fury. Troll is a close second for damage output due to Berserking Icon Berserking, the extra 1% expertise with ranged weapons, and extra damage deal versus Beasts. However, it is also worth noting that Blood Elves have the racial Arcane Torrent Icon Arcane Torrent, an AoE silence that can be incredibly strong in Challenge Modes.

As Alliance, Worgen is your best choice due to their passive 1% crit and their movement cooldown Darkflight Icon Darkflight. Draenei is also a strong choice because of their 1% passive hit.

Best Professions for Marksmanship Hunter

  1. Engineering Icon Engineering — Engineering is still by far the best profession in the game, made even stronger in Mists of Pandaria with the on-use glove tinker Synapse Springs Icon Synapse Springs. This will be far and away the best option as a DPS player. You also cannot ignore the utility of Nitro Boosts Icon Nitro Boosts, which provide a ton of movement speed on-demand. Given that Engineering is by far the best DPS increase and provides excellent utility bonuses, it's a must-have profession.
  2. Blacksmithing Icon Blacksmithing — Lets you add an extra socket to both your Gloves and Bracers thanks to Socket Gloves Icon Socket Gloves and Socket Bracer Icon Socket Bracer. To be frank, as long as you have any non-gathering profession as your second profession, you are fine. The differences in combat bonuses between all other non-engineering professions are mostly negligible, so take your pick as to which you would prefer. Blacksmithing is generally a very strong choice as it gives you the most control over what stats to add due to the extra sockets, but that will always be Agility as a Hunter anyways.
