Beastmaster DPS Rotation, Openers, and Abilities — Dawntrail 7.56
On this page, you will learn how to optimise your opener and rotation in both single-target and multi-target situations. We also cover the use of your cooldowns, to ensure you can achieve the best use of them every time as a Beastmaster DPS in Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail (Patch 7.56).
Beastmaster Rotation
This guide covers Beastmaster combat at level 50. If you are still working toward the level cap, check out the Leveling and Beasts pages first.
The Gauge System
Beastmaster manages three gauges simultaneously:
- Beastmaster Gauge: Tracks resources for your personal actions. Maximum 250 units.
- Beast Gauge: Tracks resources for your beast's actions. Maximum 250 units.
- Instinct Gauge: Displays four colors in a circular order: yellow, green, blue, and red.
Instinctual Combos
The core of Beastmaster's damage rotation is the Instinctual Combo system. Both your character and your active beast have colored instinctual actions corresponding to the four colors on the Instinct Gauge.
Using actions in the correct clockwise order around the gauge increases combo damage. When you consume 100 or more gauge units at once, you trigger a more powerful version of your instinctual actions. At higher levels, abilities become available that instantly fill the gauges, allowing you to execute multiple powerful combos in quick succession.
Basic Rotation Principle
- Use your personal and beast actions to build gauge.
- Fire off instinctual actions in clockwise color order (yellow → green → blue → red) to maximize combo damage.
- When gauges reach 100+, use the empowered versions of your instinctual actions for significantly higher damage.
- Use your beast's Finisher at an appropriate time for burst, then swap to your next battlehorn beast.
Beast Management
You have three beasts assigned to your battlehorns. Swapping between them mid-combat is an important part of the rotation. Each beast has different elemental auto-attacks and passive bonuses, so choosing when to bring a specific beast out and when to deploy its Finisher is a key decision point.
For full details on individual beast actions, see the Beasts page.

Guides from Other Classes
This guide has been written by Liam Galt, who created the Blue Academy Youtube channel and Discord in response to the lack of consolidated and accurate Blue Mage resources available. Liam enjoys finding non-standard solutions to problems, so Blue Mage content with all of its zaniness is a natural interest! Outside of Blue Mage, he also enjoys Savage and Ultimate raiding which he streams on Twitch.
