All Job Changes in FFXIV Evercold

Last updated Today at 12:00 by Lyra

FFXIV: Evercold provides significant changes to each playable job, with two new combat modes, new actions, button consolodation and new traits.

1.

Dawntrail Job Changes

In Dawntrail, the level cap of all jobs will be raised to 110. All existing non-limited jobs will have two Modes, gain new actions and traits, and gain completely new mechanics. If you're unfamiliar with the combat changes coming in Evercold including the two new Modes, visit our Combat Changes page for more info.

We'll learn more about expansion job changes in the subsequent Fanfest panels, job action trailer, and job-focused live letter. In the meantime, here's what we know so far. Note that these updates are under development and subject to change.

2.

Tanks

Tanks Evercold FFXIV

Tanks will be receiving a large update with the differentiation of sub-roles: Main Tank and Off Tank (Sub Tank in some regions). This change only applies to the Evolved Mode. Paladin and the new tank job will be classified as Main Tanks, and Warrior, Dark Knight, and Gunbreaker will be classified as Off Tanks. Main Tanks are better at holding boss aggro and are able to use counter actions, while Off Tanks have a better mitigation toolkit to assist the party. It is unknown whether or not two of one sub-role can be used in a party.

2.1.

Paladin

Paladin Evercold FFXIV

An in-development version of Evolved Paladin was shown during the Battle System Developer Panel at the North American Fanfest. Both the Royal Authority combo and Blade combo are still present, while the Atonement combo has been removed. Instead, using Royal Authority, now called Divine Authority, allows players to use a Continuation button similar to Gunbreaker to use Expiacion. They now passively gain charges of Honor, which is expended with Imperator to use the Blade combo. Finally, blocking an attack with Holy Sheltron allows them to use Satisfaction, a counterattack that applies a Regen on themselves.

On the utility side, Passage of Arms now has a follow-up AoE heal called Round Table. Dashing to an allied party member applies Cover for a short duration. These changes make Evolved Paladin a fun tank with high mobility and healing.

2.2.

Warrior

Evolved Warrior will be an Off Tank in Evercold, and prior to the Fell Cleaving machine it is today Warrior was an excellent mitigation-focused tank with Storm's Path providing a passive 10% damage reduction for all party members.

2.3.

Dark Knight

Evolved Dark Knight will be an Off Tank in Evercold. Dark Knight is currently excellent at single target mitigation between the low-cooldown The Blackest Night and Oblation with two charges.

2.4.

Gunbreaker

Evolved Gunbreaker will be an Off Tank in Evercold.

3.

Healers

The Healer changes in Evercold are focused on healing. The developers understand that healers in high-end play try to minimize healing and instead do as much damage as possible to assist with tight DPS checks. By changing Evolved healing to be able to recuperate damage loss and having more involved rotations, they hope they can make healing much more involved than it is currently.

3.1.

White Mage

White Mage Holy Sanctuary Evercold FFXIV

Evolved White Mage gains a new mechanic in the Sanctity gauge. This gauge fills up whenever players heal a target missing HP, and it increases the potency of the new spell Holy Sanctuary. This functions similar to the Blood Lily, though the Lily Gauge and Afflatus spells still exist. Other changes include a follow-up spell to Glare, and Temperance granting a short burst of movement speed. The cast time of Glare has also been removed. It's unknown whether the cast time of DPS spells for all healers has been removed or only for White Mage.

Also removed from the bar are Asylum and Cure III. Divine Benison has also been combined with Aquaveil, and Dia is nowhere to be found either.

3.2.

Scholar

Evolved Scholar remains a shield healer in Evercold.

3.3.

Astrologian

Evolved Astrologian remains a pure healer in Evercold. Due to the removal of raid synergies, it is unknown whether or not Astrologian will retain its cards and Divination, as it is a buff-focused job.

3.4.

Sage

Evolved Sage remains a shield healer in Evercold.

4.

Melee DPS

With an in-development version of Evolved Dragoon being shown off, we can deduce a few critical changes to melee DPS coming in Evercold. The first is the standardized Continuation button, which changes to an ability based on the previous weaponskill used, similar to Gunbreaker's Jugular Rip and Viper's Death Rattle. The second change is that there exist positionals from only the left or right of the boss.

4.1.

Monk

No information about Evolved Monk has been revealed yet.

4.2.

Dragoon

Dragoon Sky Shatter Evercold FFXIV

Evolved Dragoon has had its actions condensed, with more impactful abilities being used much more often. The Dragonsbane job gauge now passively fills up over time and allows the usage of Sinister and Dexter Drive, which have left and right positional bonuses. Using both of these unlock the Winged Chaos weaponskill, dealing massive damage from the rear positional and granting a stack of Wyrmwind.

Jump has been changed to Vengeful Jump, dealing damage, granting a stack of Blood of the Dragon, and removing the positional requirements of your next Dragonsbane weaponskill. At 3 stacks of Blood of the Dragon you can use the Stardiver combo and the Sky High weaponskill. This skill is extremely similar to Dragoon's PvP Limit Break: it sends them high up into the air and grants them damage reduction, and they crash down on the ground at the end dealing massive damage. It seems complicated, but the payoff and job identity is sky-high.

4.3.

Ninja

No information about Evolved Ninja has been revealed yet.

4.4.

Samurai

No information about Evolved Samurai has been revealed yet.

4.5.

Reaper

No information about Evolved Reaper has been revealed yet.

4.6.

Viper

No information about Evolved Viper has been revealed yet.

5.

Ranged DPS

With the addition of a fourth Ranged DPS job, the role is looking better than ever. Ranged DPS are likely to be the biggest benefactor of synergy removal, as Bard and Dancer were tied to their raid buffs and Machinist, having no raid buffs found it difficult to compete.

5.1.

Bard

Bard Wanderer's Volley Evercold FFXIV

The Evolved Bard skills shown in the Battle System developer panel make Bard look like the coolest job in the game, flipping around the arena and singing songs in rapid succession to buff allies. Burst Shot is now a three-button combo called Starlight Sight. Songs now consume a stack of Performance, which is gained over time but does not overcap. These songs grant its corresponding Coda, have no cooldown, but cannot be used again until all three are used. Having all three Codas also unlock Radiant Finale and its follow-up attack, Radiant Encore.

Bard Thrum of the Godsbow Evercold FFXIV

Songs also unlock two unique weaponskills per song. Mage's Ballad has two damage-over-time focused weaponskills, Army's Paeon has a five-button AoE combo, and Wanderer's Minuet grants a buff and Burst Arrow combo, finishing with a casted weaponskill dealing massive damage, Thrum of the Godsbow. The final skill shown off with the best audience reception is Wanderer's Volley. This is a weaponskill that has three charges and deals damage, but when used with a movement input at the same time the character jumps in that direction while shooting.

5.2.

Machinist

No information about Evolved Machinist has been revealed yet.

5.3.

Dancer

No information about Evolved Dancer has been revealed yet, including whether or not it will retain its single-target buffs and raid buffs.

Black Mage

No information about Evolved Black Mage has been revealed yet.
