Bogshaper & 3 Warlock Cards Revealed: The Witchwood

We have a lot of reveals to catch up to today. Let's get right to it!

Bogshaper, an Epic Shaman minion, was revealed by Pathra on YouTube:


The effect is excellent, it's an Elemental and 8 Health is quite hard to remove. Bogshaper definitely works well with Hagatha and complements Spells Shaman, which is the direction Team 5 wants to push Shaman to in The Witchwood. The problem is for a card drawing engine this card comes at quite a heavy mana cost, especially if you compare it to similar cards for other classes, like Starving Buzzard or even the card generating Lyra the Sunshard. There's also the question that we've raised about all the other Shaman cards we've seen so far in The Witchwood: is Spell Shaman going to be good enough? It's certainly a different archetype than the one we're used to, but Shaman is no Mage.

Moving on, we've had three simultaneous Warlock card reveals by various Chinese streamers on Panda.tv. Warlock is all about self damage in The Witchwood and these cards synergise with each other. The first card, Deathweb Spider, was revealed by Valeera.


A 4/6 Lifesteal (granted that the Battlecry is activated) makes for a powerful body that is difficult to remove. The issue is that even though this card can be strong, I can't see it fitting in a Warlock deck. Cubelock already has enough healing as it is, even with the loss of Mistress of Mixtures, and its 5 mana slot is more than occupied. A lot of people are arguing that this card could be valuable in Zoolock. I disagree, though: at 5+ mana, Zoolock needs finisher cards and that's not one of them.

The next card was unveiled by WangShifu.


At first glance this card looks good, but when you start to analyse it, you realise that it isn't. Don't be fooled by its mana cost: this card cannot be activated with only 3 mana. It's a decent turn 4 (or turn 3 + coin) play to drop a Flame Imp or Kobold Librarian and this, but it's not amazing either.

Lastly, Blood Witch was revealed by Autumn.


This looks like the weaker card out of the three. Blood Witch works well with the previous two cards (especially the Spider) and it fuels the Warlock Spellstone nicely. The stats are also pretty good. However, you will still need to take 1 damage every single turn. The two aforementioned cards can also be activated by the Hero Power, while there are already others ways to upgrade the Spellstone.

I agree with Zadina, ofc we have to wait how the meta will be and we all might be wrong.

But I like the Shaman Minion, if I end up having enough cards from WW, without the need to craft expensive ones I might not use in the future, I am eager to try a shaman deck with it.

I would be happy to see a different shaman type. The current/previous ones are so boring (imo) Aggro/token/jade shaman are pretty much brain dead decks to play. Evolve not so much but I hate it and I can say I lost games to it because they got a ridiculous result from their (D)evolve but I won the same amount of games because they got screwed by their own (D)evolve.

I have to say, I really like where Shaman is heading. I like the new Shaman-"Deathknight" and I like this Bogshaper. It might be a bit expensive, but conditional carddraw is always a power to reacon with.

The new Warlock cards seem quite playable, too, at first glance. Maybe some sort of self-damage-Zoolock will become a thing and that sounds - at least for me - more exciting than the good old Zoo-jam-everything-in-that-has-good-stats-lock.

Soooo, in comparison to some of the other recent spoilers, this one seems pretty teasing.

I'm really not liking how many of these cards were printed to be played together. When deck building is done for you, I don't know... it feels a bit strange.

I think the elemental could’ve had a bit more damage without being too strong. I’m not convinced it goes all that well in an elemental hagatha deck. You’re running hagatha, kalimos, probably two blazecallers. There’s a limit on how many cards you can fit into those high many slots. Maybe a one-of, and situationally a good pull off the 4/5 discover elemental.

The warlock cards seem underwhelming. Duskbat at would be good in zoo if activated on curve but not sure how you can consistently do that. The other two don’t really fit either zoo or control/cube all that well.

Warlock cards are meant to be played together in a new deck especially the 4 and 5 are extremely strong on curve you drop a 6 hp thing followed by another 6 hp thing that opponent must instantly remove or lose to it if left on the board too long

I like how things are going in this expansion and I'm sure that I will back after few months of leaving (I left because of those dk guldans and they pissed me off)..so they finally stopped it and things are getting better..as a fan of shaman I don't like this one...this card looks abit weak and I think there are better cards with 7cost mana to take place in decks and as I know shaman got much low cost cards on this updte so I think this isn't a good one for early game..and I prefer some overload cards or something like hero cards(as my bigger cards)instead of this

The elemental looks pretty good.  Hard to see if it will see play, but the synergy with hagatha is strong.  I think it is also stronger then blaze caller in a lot of situations.


The bat looks good, the other two look eh.  Imp gang boss was one of the strongest warlock minions in the game, and this isn't that far off from it.  Summoning 1/1s is also just so good for zoo.
