Edgar's Stat Priority
Edgar's ability to heal scales directly with his max HP, making it his most desired stat overall. Healing Bonus % is much harder to come by than HP % though, so you will want to try and get it as your Cartridge mainstat. A Max HP Cartridge is also acceptable. You can throw in some additional Break Intensity to help stagger enemies faster as well, or invest more in ATK if you're going to play Speedy Hedgehog on Edgar.
Edgar's Skill Priority
Edgar almost never wants to use anything but his Skill and Ultimate to heal. If you're relying on his Ultimate alone for healing, you can ignore his Skill as well, although his Skill does provide smart-healing, meaning it will always heal the most injured character, while his Ultimate only heals the on-field character. There is a breakpoint for his Ultimate at Level 9, where it grants 2% of his max HP as healing, on top of the flat amount, instead of just 1%. This might be worth going for first, while his Skill only scales the flat amount.
Edgar's Awakening Priority
If you have one or multiple copies of a character, you will be able to select Awakenings of your choosing. The following is a recommendation of what order to generally select for Edgar's Awakenings. Remember that you can switch them at any time to try out different ones, or tailor your choices for a specific fight or situation.
| Awakening Unlock Order | Explanation |
|---|---|
| One of the Eibon Detectives (A3) |
This Awakening grants more healing to characters that are particularly injured, which can be particularly useful when played in a team with Fadia or Baicang who are constantly at risk of dipping beneath this threshold. |
| Guardian of the Antique Shop's Light (A5) |
This provides a simple max HP increase. It is not flashy, but it is the only other Awakening that directly increases his healing throughput. |
| Visitor from Planet Curiosity (A6) |
On top of healing his allies, Edgar can also provide a DEF % boost with this Awakening, further strengthening his defensive purpose in a team. |
| Intern Anomaly Hunter (A2) |
This Awakening increases the max cooldown extension for his Skill. While this can lead to more consistent healing, the other throughput options in this list do not require additional field-uptime for Edgar, making them better choices. |
| Anomaly-Loving Observer (A1) |
This Awakening allows Edgar to generate additional Keys of Truth, which extend the duration of his Ultimate when used. Unless this Awakening also increases the amount of Keys you can hold, it is a very weak option, as the current listed cap sits at just 3, which Edgar may reach just through regular gameplay already. If this does add on top of this cap, then this Awakening is quite a bit stronger and moves into first or second position. |
| Skilled Strategist (A4) |
Edgar's "worst" Awakening is a simple damage increase to his Skill, and does not provide any benefits to why you would play him in the first place. It can be a higher priority if you end up having enough healing already, but in those cases you might be better off just switching Edgar out for another character entirely. |
How to Play Edgar
Edgar's purpose in a team is very simple. Sit back and heal! Both his Skill and Ultimate provide healing to either the lowest-HP party member, or the on-field character, allowing him to keep everyone alive. This makes him quite valuable when just starting out with the game, but drops his value over time as you get better at predicting enemy damage patterns, and learn to perfect parry and dodge enemy attacks.
He outlives his usefulness once you've reached a certain proficiency with the game, but until then his gameplay is quite simple. His Skill heals the lowest-HP member for as long as you hold the button (up to a maximum duration), so make sure to switch to Edgar whenever his Skill is off-cooldown - or hold onto it if you don't need any healing right this second. His Ultimate provides healing-over-time over 10 seconds, but only heals the currently active character.
