Komano Manato Guide and Best Builds
Introduction - Komano Manato
Komano Manato is a Fire Rupture Agent in Zenless Zone Zero.
Komano Manato is a member of the Spook Shack faction alongside Ukinami Yuzuha, Alice Thymefield, Lucia, and Yidhari.
"If any trouble comes up, just get behind me."
"Even though the Spook Shack sounds scary, and its members keep talking about all sorts of bizarre stuff..."
"But honestly, everyone's such a warm and caring friend."
"Oh, and the part-time jobs they recommend are totally worth it!"
Banner Availability & How to Pull Komano Manato
Komano Manato is an A-Rank agent available to be pulled from all Character and W-Engine Banners in Zenless Zone Zero.
Komano Manato's Strengths & Weaknesses
Has good weapon choices and teams.
Strong DPS potential for a free A-Rank.
Needs Lucia, an S-Rank Support for best performance.
As an A-Rank, Manato can require a lot of investment.
Can feel underwhelming without their M6.
Manato Best Builds, W-Engines and Drive Discs
Manato is built as a Main DPS. His best build revolves around high HP that he will consume in order to deal massive DMG. He is one of the best DPS you can get early on that is worth investing in, since he is only an A-Rank Agent, and actually really good.

Manato's best W-Engine for this build is Grill O'Wisp which is his signature weapon. This is an A-Rank Weapon which at R1 is around 10% lower than at R5. This W-Engine increases Manato's CRIT Rate by 24% when his HP decreases. Yixuan's W-Engine Qingming Birdcage is the second best weapon for Manato as it has a very good HP % and acts as a CRIT Rate stat stick with high base attack. The BP weapon or the craftable Puzzle Sphere are perfectly fine too.
Regarding Drive Discs for Manato's build, it is a bit more annoying, since he does not have any set that is really targeted towards himself. As 4-piece, Yunkui Tales remains the current best option, and the most consistent one. However, Inferno Metal also does the job. Your best 2-piece option simply depends on the amount of CRIT Rate and DMG you already have.
You want around 76% CRIT Rate so you can reach 100% once you are in combat. Regarding HP, the more you have, the better it is, and the more DMG Manato will do.
How to Play Manato
Manato's gameplay revolves about him consuming his own HP to enhance his attacks. He is your typical agent that will trade health for power. So far, nothing complicated: Build enough HP, eat it up, smash. Additionally, Manato can restore his own health through his Special Attacks and EX Special Attack as well.
Manato's main damage comes from his Enhanced Basic Attacks & Assist Follow-ups. He also has a specific resource called Blazing Heart which can accumulate to a maximum of 100.
When Manato has over 75 Blazing Heart, he enters the Molten Edge state. During this stage, Manato enhances his own Basic Attacks and EX Special, and increases his CRIT Rate and Fire DMG.
Once Blazing Heart is depleted completely, Manato exists Molten Edge automatically.
As mentioned, Manato consumes his own HP, and can also restore it. This means that you will have to properly manage his HP.
You must however stay above 30% HP to trigger Manato's CRIT DMG bonuses. His special and EX Special can heal him when hit. Manato also gains extra Sheer Force based on his max HP. As a remainder, Rupture Agents are the only ones who can currently deal Sheer DMG. Sheer DMG is a special type of damage that ignores enemy DEF. It is particularly useful against Miasma-related enemies.
During Molten Edge, Manato's enhanced Basic Attacks are his Core source of damage and consumes 3.5% HP. In order to balance Manato's HP consumption and healing, you need to:
- Hold the special Attack to consumes 10% HP and gain 75 Blazing Heart and attack.
- Get hit during the animation to get a bonus damage and heal 20% missing HP.
- Use his EX Special that costs 80 adrenaline but restores 33% missing HP. This one is best used during the stun windows.
- Use his Assist Follow-Up to consume 2% HP per slash (max 7 Slashes) to deal massive DPS.
- Play him with another Support or Stun character to trigger his Additional Ability: Rekindled Heart and heal 2% HP per stack when consuming those via Basic attacks or Assist Follow-up.
So basically what you need to remember is:
- Maintain Melting Edge - always stay in this state.
- Hold Special Attack to enter Enhanced State.
- Use Special/Assist to restore Blazing Heart.
- Stay above 30% HP to enable CRIT DMG boosts.
- Save EX & Ultimate for stun windows.
Knowing this, the ideal rotation is the following:
- Quick assist into his third and fourth Basic Attack
- Swap cancel his fourth Basic Attack
- Trigger the stun window:
- Other character (Stunner if possible) EX Special
- Chain to Manato
- Cancel the Chain
- Manato EX special
- Other Agent EX Special (should trigger Stun)
- Chain Attack on Manato
- Manato Special attackManato Assist Follow-Up
- Manato Ultimate
- With M6, you can use an additional Assist Follow-Up during stun
- Without M6 you want to finish with ultimate or basic attacks
Manato is a great Fire DPS alternative to Soldier 11, especially for F2P players. He works as a catch-up mechanic for new players lacking S-rank or limited Agents. Soldier 11 does not ignore defense, and that is a key weakness right now in upcoming challenges that involve a ton of Miasma shields.
Bangboo Information
Manato's faction-specific Bangboo is
Miss Esme. If you get this Bangboo to Rank 3,
you only need one Spook Shack Squad member to trigger its ability.
However, as always, your best bet is going for Bangboo that go with other team members,
or more supportive Bangboo such as
Snap.
Manato Team Comps and Synergy
Manato's best teams revolve around Lucia. She is currently the best Rupture Agent support you can get, and Manato definitely needs her to be able to pull out his max potential. Other than that, he is not that restricted.
Manato's Best Teams
| Main DPS | Stun | Support | Bangboo |
|---|---|---|---|
| Komano Manato | Lucia | Ju Fufu | Miss Esme |
This is Manato's best team. Lucia is essential for Manato, and Ju Fufu will have a high synergy with him due to the shared Fire type and buff uptime, on top of being a very good Stunner. If you do not want to pull for Lucia, you can use Pan Yinhu instead since he also buffs Sheer. Lighter, Pulchra or Koleda Belobog instead of Fufu also work, but keep in mind that for Lighter you need to play another Sons Of Calydon Agent such as Caesar King as well to trigger his ability.
F2P Alternative
| Main DPS | Stun | Support | Bangboo |
|---|---|---|---|
| Komano Manato | Koleda Belobog | Pan Yinhu | Snap |
If you are just starting the game and need a more beginner-friendly team, Koleda and Pan Yinhu are great options for Manato as well. While they will not allow him to pull out his full potential, they can still carry you pretty good.
Alternative Manato Teams
| Main DPS | Stun/Support | Support | Bangboo |
|---|---|---|---|
| Komano Manato | Lucia | Astra Yao | Miss Esme |
| Komano Manato | Lighter | Orphie & Magus | Snap |
| Komano Manato | Trigger | Astra Yao | Snap |
| Komano Manato | Ju Fufu | Astra Yao | Snap |
As mentioned, without Lucia, you will not get Manato's max potential. However, all these do function pretty well regardless.

Manato's Mindscapes
Manato's Mindscapes are really good. At M6 he gain around +50% DMG compared to M0. Since he is only an A-Rank, it is easier to get him up to M6, especially if you pull for Lucia, since he is on her banner. You also get one copy for free.
