Orphie & Magus Guide & Best Builds

Welcome to our Orphie build guide for Zenless Zone Zero. Orphie & Magus is a powerful S-Rank Fire Attack Agent who deals Aftershock DMG. In our guide, we will cover everything you need to know to get the most out of your Orphie, from building the best Drive Discs and W-Engines, to important stat priorities and combos.

Unlike most Agents who want a standard stat threshold, Orphie & Magus wants Energy Regen, which cannot come from Disc substats. However, reaching the maximum additional ATK from Core Passive: Taming Wind and Fire's Zeroed In is very easy as long as you follow the Drive Disc recommendations. You might also be receiving Energy Regen bonuses from Squad Agents or Bangboo, so your Energy Regen W-Engine needs may vary.

Orphie & Magus's Best W-Engines

Listed below are Orphie's best W-Engines. While W-Engines are listed in a priority order, what is best to build can vary slightly depending on your team composition or account funding.

Bellicose Blaze
Flame-Devouring Choir
Increases CRIT Rate by 20/23/26/29/32%. When the equipper triggers an Aftershock that deals Fire DMG, their attacks ignore 15/17.2/19.5/21.7/24% of the target's DEF for 8s. Can stack once every 3s, up to 2 stacks. Repeated triggers reset the duration.

The best W-Engine currently available is none other than Orphie & Magus's Signature W-Engine: Bellicose Blaze. This W-Engine not only provides the most Energy Regen for a W-Engine, but its effect is also heavily tailored for Orphie & Magus's preferred gameplay style.

Heartstring Nocturne
String & Melody
CRIT DMG increases by 50/57.5/65/72.5/80%. When the equipper enters combat, or activates a Chain Attack or Ultimate, they gain 1 stack of Heartstring. Each stack of Heartstring allows the equipper's Chain Attack and Ultimate to ignore 12.5/14.5/16.5/18.5/20% of the target's Fire RES, stacking up to 2 times and lasting 30s. Repeated triggers reset the duration.

If you want to invest in other stats instead, Orphie & Magus has several options she can choose from. Her most universal option is Heartstring Nocturne, as it increases both her CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG in equal proportions. In addition, it also increases Fire DMG. Whereas both Severed Innocence and Cordis Germina primarily just focus on one stat alone.

Severed Innocence
Tranquil Blossom
CRIT DMG is increased by 30/34.5/39/43.5/48%. When the equipper lands a hit with a Basic Attack, Special Attack, or Aftershock, they gain 1 stack of a buff. Each stack increases the equipper's CRIT DMG by an additional 10/11.5/13/14.5/16%, stacking up to 3 times. The effect lasts for 30s, with each stack's duration calculated separately, and can only be triggered once per use of a skill. With all 3 stacks, the equipper's Electric DMG increases by 20/23/26/29/32%.

Orphie & Magus's base CRIT Rate, including the +25% bonus from Core Passive: Taming Wind and Fire, means she does not require a lot of additional CRIT Rate. As such, Severed Innocence performs slightly better than Cordis Germina, because Orphie & Magus can activate its W-Engine Effect pretty easily with Basic Attacks, Special Attacks, and Aftershocks.

Cordis Germina
Sprouting Core
Increases CRIT Rate by 15/17/19/21/23%. When the equipper deals DMG with a Basic Attack or EX Special Attack, they gain 1 stack of a buff. Each stack increases the equipper's Electric DMG by 12.5/14.5/16.5/18.5/20%, up to 2 stacks. Each stack lasts 40s. The duration of each stack is calculated separately. Can trigger once per use of a skill. At 2 stacks, the wearer's Basic Attack and Ultimate DMG ignore 20/23/26/29/32% of enemy DEF.

Despite Cordis Germina increasing the equipper's Electric DMG with every stack, this W-Engine's secondary Ignore DEF effect is independent of which Attribute DMG the user deals. This is also true for the base CRIT Rate effect. As such, Orphie can utilize everything in Cordis Germina except for the Electric DMG increase, but may find herself overcapping on CRIT Rate.

Any A-Rank W-Engine
-

Other -Rank Attack W-Engines are fine for Orphie & Magus, but will generally perform about the same. So if you do not have access to any of the above options, any W-Engine will work for Orphie & Magus.

Drill Rig - Red Axis
Hell's Generator
When launching an EX Special Attack or Chain Attack, Electric DMG from Basic Attacks and Dash Attacks increases by 50/57.5/65/72.5/80% for 10s. This effect can trigger once every 15s.

If you want Energy Regen alternatives, you can also consider either Drill Rig - Red Axis or Housekeeper. Notably, Drill Rig - Red Axis has +50% Energy Regen, while a W0 Bellicose Blaze can only offer up to +60% Energy Regen. The 0.1 multiplier difference is not that significant, considering Orphie & Magus needs more than just ATK and Energy Regen to perform well.

Housekeeper
Safe Household Saw
While off-field, the equipper's Energy Regen increases by 0.45/0.52/0.58/0.65/0.72/s. When an EX Special Attack hits an enemy, the equipper's Physical DMG increases by 3/3.5/4/4.4/4.8%, stacking up to 15 times and lasting 1s. Repeated triggers reset the duration.

The Housekeeper will perform about the same as Drill Rig - Red Axis at any investment level, so select whichever is most available on your account.

Best Drive Discs for Orphie & Magus

Because there are plenty of other Energy Regen bonuses for Orphie & Magus to select from, it is recommended to use a build that offers:

  • A 2-Piece Drive Disc set with Energy Regen ( Moonlight Lullaby or Swing Jazz)
  • and another 4-Piece Drive Disc set (such as Shadow Harmony, Inferno Metal, or Hormone Punk)

Since you are not running both Moonlight Lullaby and Swing Jazz together, this does mean Orphie & Magus will be missing out on an extra +20% Energy Regen. However, the bonuses from other stats will contribute to a higher damage output in general.

Keep in mind that increasing her Energy Regen for Core Passive: Taming Wind and Fire is only a squad-wide ATK bonus, nothing else. Energy Regen does not impact the Ignore DEF value from Additional Ability: Forged in Flames, nor the increased DMG from Luxurious Cat House.

Shadow Harmony
2-Piece Set: The DMG of Aftershocks and Dash Attacks is increased by 15%.
4-Piece Set: Upon hitting an enemy with an Aftershock or Dash Attack, if the DMG dealt aligns with the equipper's attribute, the equipper gains 1 stack of a buff effect, at most once per use of a skill. For each stack, the equipper's ATK increases by 4%, and CRIT Rate increases by 4%. The effect can stack up to 3 times and lasts for 15s. Repeated triggers reset the duration.

Of the 4-Piece options suggested, Orphie & Magus is most compatible with Shadow Harmony. This is because most of her kit can deal Fire Aftershock DMG, so gaining Shadow Harmony buff stacks will be easy for her.

2-Piece Recommendations are Moonlight Lullaby or Swing Jazz. The recommendations are quite limited, as 4-Piece Shadow Harmony does not provide any Energy Regen to Orphie at all. As such, you should go with whichever 2-Piece set has better substats.

Hormone Punk
2-Piece Set: ATK +10%
4-Piece Set: Upon becoming the active character in combat, the equipper's ATK increases by 25% for 10s. This effect can trigger once every 20s.

Since Orphie does need to be on-field and active periodically throughout her rotation, she can benefit from the 4-Piece Hormone Punk ATK buff. However, ATK may become oversaturated if your other substats, such as CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG, are not distributed appropriately.

2 Piece Recommendations:

  1. Moonlight Lullaby or Swing Jazz
  2. Shadow Harmony
  3. Branch & Blade Song
  4. Inferno Metal
  5. Hormone Punk
Inferno Metal
2-Piece Set: Fire DMG +10%
4-Piece Set: Upon hitting a Burning enemy, the equipper's CRIT Rate is increased by 28% for 8s.

If you want to focus on improving Orphie's Fire DMG instead, which impacts most of her damage profile, you should run a 4-Piece Inferno Metal. Just keep in mind that, similar to running a 4-Piece Hormone Punk set, you will miss out on an extra +20% Energy Regen.

2 Piece Recommendations:

  1. Moonlight Lullaby or Swing Jazz
  2. Shadow Harmony
  3. Branch & Blade Song
  4. Inferno Metal
  5. Hormone Punk
Moonlight Lullaby and Swing Jazz

2-Piece Set: Energy Regen +20%
4-Piece Set: When the equipper is a Support character and uses an EX Special Attack or Ultimate, the DMG dealt by all squad members increases by 18% for 25s. Repeated triggers reset the duration. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.

2-Piece Set: ATK +10%
4-Piece Set: Upon becoming the active character in combat, the equipper's ATK increases by 25% for 10s. This effect can trigger once every 20s.

If you want to maximize on Core Passive: Taming Wind and Fire's ATK bonus from Zeroed In instead, you will need the following:

  • Drive Disc 6 Partition: Energy Regen
  • 2-Piece Moonlight Lullaby (+20% Energy Regen)
  • 2-Piece Swing Jazz (+20% Energy Regen)
  • Equipped W-Engine with 50-60% Energy Regen (Main Stat or W-Engine Effect)

You can substitute the W-Engine with a Bangboo if they have an Energy-related skill. However, the Drive Disc configuration is non-negotiable. Because the 2-Piece Disc effects can stack, you can go for a third 2-Piece Disc set (such as Shadow Harmony, Branch & Blade Song, or Inferno Metal).

Alternatively, you can use the 4-Piece effects from Swing Jazz. Of the two Energy Regen sets, Orphie & Magus can at least enable Swing Jazz's 4-Piece effect. However, this is only recommended if you do not have any Shadow Harmony Drive Discs available.

Orphie & Magus's Stat Priority

Disc 4: CRIT DMG / CRIT Rate
Disc 5: Fire DMG / ATK %
Disc 6: Energy Regen
Substats: CRIT Rate > CRIT DMG > ATK % > PEN > ATK

Feel free to prioritize between building CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG, but only go up to 80% CRIT Rate. You cannot build for Energy Regen through Drive Disc substats, and as such, should prioritize getting Energy Regen on Disc 6.

Orphie & Magus has 1.56 base Energy Regen at Level 60. She needs up to 3.66 Energy Regen to fully maximize on Core Passive: Taming Wind and Fire's Zeroed In ATK bonus. However, even though the number may seem daunting, this is fairly simple to achieve with the Drive Discs we currently have available.

You might also be receiving Energy Regen bonuses from Squad Agents or Bangboo, so maximizing the stat with Drive Discs alone is not required.

Orphie & Magus's Skill Priority

Skill Priority: > > > > >

Focus on improving Orphie's Core Skill first, as it increases an unconditional amount of CRIT Rate and Aftershock DMG. It also increases the ATK boost whenever Zeroed In is active.

How to Play Orphie & Magus

Orphie & Magus's general rotation is pretty straightforward to understand:

  • Generate at least 60 Bottled Heat via Special Attack: Corrosive Flash
  • Switch to Orphie & Magus for EX Special Attack: Heat Charge and Ultimate: Dance With Fire
  • After Bottled Heat reaches 0, or Zeroed In is active, switch Orphie & Magus back out to generate again

As most of Orphie's kit is considered as Aftershock DMG, she can theoretically gain a permanent "ignore 25% DEF" buff with any attack, as long as she has Zeroed In. This is thanks to her Core Passive: Taming Wind and Fire and Additional Ability: Forged in Flames, which inherently increases ATK, buff duration, and adds ignore DEF for Agents with Aftershock DMG.

For Core Passive: Taming Wind and Fire to work, she does need to accumulate enough Bottled Heat (up to 125). This is her gauge and how she can deal her strongest non-Ultimate ability, EX Special Attack: Heat Charge.

Notably, her Basic Attack: High-Pressure Flamethrower does not provide any gauge, whereas Special Attack: Corrosive Flash does at a rate of 20 per 5s. When her Bottled Heat is at 60 gauge or higher, Orphie & Magus needs to switch in and use her EX Special Attack: Watch Your Step.

If she has enough energy to do a second EX Special Attack: Watch Your Step or activate Ultimate: Dance With Fire, she can reach 100-120 Bottled Gauge. At this point, her EX Special Attack: Heat Charge is ready to use.

When she uses EX Special Attack: Heat Charge, she will automatically trigger a Quick Assist, which will natively put her back off-field. This allows her to regenerate Bottled Heat again once EX Special Attack: Fiery Eruption activates.

Though Bottled Heat management may seem difficult, in reality, you will primarily focus on whether Orphie & Magus has enough Energy for EX Special Attack: Watch Your Step. If she does, you switch in and continue increasing her Bottled Heat to 100. If she does not, she stays off-field to passively generate Bottled Heat and deal Aftershock DMG.

Orphie & Magus's Best Mindscapes

As Orphie & Magus is primarily an Agent who prioritizes Aftershock DMG, her Mindscape Cinema might seem a little niche at first. However, much of Orphie & Magus's Mindscapes increase her compatibility with all Agents, allowing for more flexible squad compositions.

For example, her Luxurious Cat House provides an overall 20% increased DMG for all Agents affected with Core Passive: Taming Wind and Fire's Zeroed In. Though other Agents may not have Aftershocks to increase buff duration, all of them can certainly benefit from a non-conditional DMG increase!

The other major Mindscape Cinema, beyond her Magic Seed, is Pink Holster. This Mindscape Cinema increases the initial duration of her Core Passive: Taming Wind and Fire's Zeroed In buff. This is an incredible quality-of-life addition, not just for Orphie & Magus, but also other Agents who might not have any Aftershocks in their kits.

As such, most of her Mindscape Cinemas are not an insane game-changer for Orphie & Magus herself. But they provide a lot of squad-wide buffs not really found in most Attack Agents. In addition, with these upgrades, you do not have to worry about her personal damage either. They are all great, but investment is not required to 'fix' her kit.

So if you want to use Orphie & Magus with a wider variety of Agents, investing in her Mindscape Cinema (up to Pink Holster) is recommended.
