Evelyn Chevalier Guide and Best Builds
Evelyn Chevalier Guide & Best Builds
Welcome to our Evelyn build guide for Zenless Zone Zero. Evelyn Chevalier is a powerful S-Rank Fire Attack DPS Agent who deals damage via Chain Attacks. The more Chain Attacks and Assists she gets, the faster she builds her gauge. In our guide, we will cover everything you need to know to get the most out of your Evelyn, from building the best Drive Discs and W-Engines, to important stat priorities and combos.
Evelyn Chevalier's Best W-Engines
Listed below are Evelyn's best W-Engines. While W-Engines are listed in a priority order, what is best to build can vary slightly depending on your team composition or account funding.
Heartstring Nocturne
CRIT DMG increases by 50/57.5/65/72.5/80%. When the equipper enters combat, or activates a Chain Attack or Ultimate, they gain 1 stack of Heartstring. Each stack of Heartstring allows the equipper's Chain Attack and Ultimate to ignore 12.5/14.5/16.5/18.5/20% of the target's Fire RES, stacking up to 2 times and lasting 30s. Repeated triggers reset the duration.
Zanshin Herb Case
CRIT Rate increases by 10/11.5/13/14.5/16%. Dash Attack Electric DMG increases by 40/46/52/58/64%. When any squad member applies an Attribute Anomaly or Stuns an enemy, the equipper's CRIT Rate increases by an additional 10/11.5/13/14.5/16% for 15s.
Riot Suppressor Mark VI
Increases CRIT Rate by 15/18.8/22.6/26.4/30%. Launching an EX Special Attack grants the equipper 8 Charge stacks, up to a maximum of 8 stacks. Whenever the equipper's Basic Attack or Dash Attack deals Ether DMG, consumes a Charge stack and increases the skill's DMG by 35/43.5/52/60.5/70%.
The Brimstone
Upon hitting an enemy with a Basic Attack, Dash Attack, or Dodge Counter, the equipper's ATK increases by 3.5/4.4/5.2/6/7% for 8s, stacking up to 8 times. This effect can trigger once every 0.5s. The duration of each stack is calculated separately.
Marcato Desire
When an EX Special Attack or Chain Attack hits an enemy, the equipper's ATK increases by 6/6.9/7.8/8.7/9.6% for 8s. While the target is under an Attribute Anomaly, this effect is increased by an additional 6/6.9/7.8/8.7/9.6%.
Cannon Rotor
Increases ATK by 7.5/8.6/9.7/10.8/12%. Landing a critical hit on an enemy will inflict an additional 200% of ATK as DMG. This effect can trigger once every 8/7.5/7/6.5/6s.
Street Superstar
Whenever a squad member launches a Chain Attack, the equipper gains 1 Charge stack, stacking up to 3 times. Upon activating their own Ultimate, the equipper consumes all Charge stacks, and each stack increases the skill's DMG by 15/17.2/19.5/21.7/24%.
Best Drive Discs for Evelyn Chevalier
Hormone Punk
4-Piece Set: Upon becoming the active character in combat, the equipper's ATK increases by 25% for 10s. This effect can trigger once every 20s.
For example, Hormone Punk works well with Evelyn's frequent Chain Attacks and Assists, but she may not have 100% buff uptime due to the trigger cooldown.
2-Piece Recommendations include:
- Branch & Blade Song / Woodpecker Electro
- Inferno Metal
Woodpecker Electro
4-Piece Set: Landing a critical hit on an enemy with a Basic Attack, Dodge Counter, or EX Special Attack increases the equipper's ATK by 9% for 6s. The buff duration for different skills are calculated separately.
You can also consider Yunkui Tales for its 4-piece effect. However, this is only marginally better, and should only be considered to save on resources.
2-Piece Recommendations include:
- Branch & Blade Song / Puffer Electro
- Inferno Metal
- Hormone Punk
Evelyn Chevalier's Stat Priority
When building Evelyn, prioritize getting 80% CRIT Rate first. After that, ensure she has approximately double CRIT DMG (160% or more) and build the rest into ATK % and ATK. The extra CRIT Rate can vary, but the maximum amount is up to 80%.
Evelyn Chevalier's Skill Priority
Evelyn's most important skill to level by far is her Core skill since it provides a lot of CRIT Rate and DMG Bonuses. You want to prioritize her Special Attack and Basic Attack next, as she will use both skills often. Follow up with building Assist and Dodge last.
How to Play Evelyn Chevalier
Evelyn focuses on using as many Chain Attacks and Ultimates as possible to sustain her Buffs and Resources. In combat, Evelyn has four key objectives:
- Build 50-100% Burning Embers for Basic Attack: Garrote - First Form and Basic Attack: Garrote - Second Form
- Obtain 3 Burning Tether Points for Chain Attack: Lunalux - Snare
- Enter and Re-Enter Binding Seal State
- Use Ultimate: Lunalux Garrote - Timbre or Ultimate: Lunalux Garrote - Shadow to Enter Dance of Awakened Fire State
Burning Embers and Burning Tether Points
Whenever Evelyn is on the field, every Basic Attack: Razor Wire or skill will accumulate Burning Embers. When Evelyn's Burning Embers Gauge reaches 50% or higher, she can activate Basic Attack: Garrote - First Form or Basic Attack: Garrote - Second Form by holding down or .
Each Garrote will consume 50% of the Gauge, giving Evelyn 1 Burning Tether Point. She can also obtain 1 Burning Tether Point for every Ultimate: Lunalux Garrote - Timbre or Ultimate: Lunalux Garrote - Shadow.
If Evelyn has enough Energy, holding down the will prioritize EX Special Attack: Binding Sunder - Final Form over Garrote, and will not expend the Burning Embers Gauge.
When Evelyn's Special and EX Special Attacks trigger a Perfect Dodge, Evelyn's Burning Embers Gauge will increase by an additional 25%.
Binding Seal State and Ambush Point
When Evelyn accumulates a maximum of 3 Burning Tether Points, her next Garrote becomes Chain Attack: Lunalux - Snare. Her Chain Attack, as well as any skill, makes Evelyn enter Binding Seal, which is a state that increases her CRIT Rate. You can exit Binding Seal by using Binding Sunder, which is her Special or EX Special. The CRIT Rate buff will then last for 10s, or refresh upon re-entering Binding Seal.
If Evelyn's CRIT Rate is above 80%, and Additional Ability: Ambush Point is active, her Chain Attacks and Ultimates will deal 25% more damage.
You cannot enter or exit Binding Seal with Defensive Assist: Silent Protection or Garrote, but you can enter with the 5th hit of Basic Attack: Razor Wire. The Basic Attack combo can be entered from the 3rd hit onwards by using Evelyn's Binding Sunder, allowing players to quickly exit and re-enter Binding Seal.
Dance of Awakened Fire
After using Ultimate: Lunalux Garrote - Timbre, Evelyn not only obtains 1 Burning Tether Point, but also enters the Dance of Awakened Fire state, which permanently retains 1 Burning Tether Point after every Chain Attack: Lunalux - Snare. This effectively means, for the rest of combat, Evelyn will only need to collect 2 additional Burning Tether Points to trigger a Chain Attack.
Subsequent uses of Evelyn's Ultimate will not further reduce the cost for Burning Tether Points, as the Dance of Awakened Fire state will not stack with itself. If Evelyn's Ultimate was used already, she will retain the Dance of Awakened Fire state until end of combat.
Evelyn's Combos
Evelyn's default combo is the following:
EX Special Attack (Hold) > Basic Attack (3x) > EX Special Attack (Hold) > Basic Attack (3x)...
Essentially, Evelyn wants to enter her Buff States, Binding Seal and Dance of Awakened Fire, as soon and as frequently as possible. Ideally, both States are active when enemies are Stunned, as they will take more damage on top of Evelyn's personal buffs and squad bonuses.
To achieve the above, players should ideally start Evelyn's rotation with her Chain Attack, non-Defensive Assist, or Ultimate. Thanks to her Passive: Bind, Evelyn can quickly enter a Chain Attack after 3 uses of Garrote, or 2 if Dance of Awakened Fire is active.
If Evelyn starts her rotation immediately with Ultimate: Lunalux Garrote - Timbre (such as thanks to Dreamweave, other Agents, or by accumulating enough Decibels), players may find it difficult to align her next Ultimate: Lunalux Garrote - Shadow when enemies are Stunned. As Evelyn's Ultimate deals high DMG and will reduce the number of Garrote combos per combat, players should keep her Ultimate timing in mind.
If Evelyn's Chain Attack will cause her to swap with another Agent, she will need to re-enter the field via a Quick Assist or Assist Follow-Up to start her rotation and Binding Seal again.
Evelyn Chevalier's Best Mindscapes
Evelyn's best and most accessible Mindscape Cinema is Dreamweave. While Eve can be a strong Attack Agent at M0, her M1 provides a free 1,500 Decibels at the start of combat. This gives her a free and immediate entrance into the Dance of the Awakened state via Ultimate: Lunalux Garrote - Timbre. In addition to faster Chain Attacks, the Ignore DEF bonus also applies for all enemies attacked and Bound with her Special or EX Special. As EX Special Attack: Binding Sunder - Final Form is considered a staple in Eve's general rotation, Eve at M1 will see major damage improvements overall.
As for Eve's other Mindscape Cinemas, they all have varying levels of utility or benefit for Evelyn's overall gameplay. For example, the ATK bonus from Dance of Fire allows Eve to utilize alternative Best-in-Slot options, on top of Burning Embers refunds. With Fate's Melody, Eve will get 40% more CRIT DMG when the shield is active, while Bond of Light and Shadow increases her overall DMG. Unlocking extra Mindscape Cinemas is not required for Eve, but she will certainly appreciate the bonuses they provide.
