Sunna Guide and Best Builds
Sunna Guide & Best Builds
Welcome to our Sunna build guide for Zenless Zone Zero. Sunna is a powerful S-Rank Physical Physical Support Support Agent capable of providing significant buffs to Angels of Delusion agents, Attack Attack agents and (with some caveats) Anomaly agents. In our guide, we'll cover everything you need to know to get the most out of your Sunna, from building the best Drive Discs and W-Engines to important stat priorities and combos.
Sunna's Best W-Engines
Listed below are Sunna's best W-Engines. While W-Engines are listed in a priority order, what's best to build on your Sunna can vary based on specific team comps, with factors such as how fast your DPS is able to trigger Sunna's Cat's Gaze mark affecting how different W-Engines perform.
Thoughtbop
While not the active character, the equipper's Energy Regen increases by 0.6/0.69/0.78/0.87/0.96/s. When the equipper uses an EX Special Attack and deals Physical DMG, all squad members gain a buff that increases DMG dealt by 12.5/14.3/16.1/17.9/20% for 40s, stacking up to 2 times. Repeated triggers reset the duration. At 2 stacks, characters gain an additional 10/11.5/13/14.5/16% ATK. Only one instance of this effect can exist in the same squad.
Weeping Cradle
While off-field, the equipper's Energy Regen increases by 0.6/0.75/0.9/1.05/1.2/s. Attacks from the equipper increase all units' DMG against a struck target by 10/12.5/15/17.5/20% for 3 seconds. During this period, this effect is further increased by 1.7/2/2.5/3/3.3% every 0.5s, up to a maximum additional increase of 10.2/12/15/18/19.8%. Repeated triggers only refresh the duration without refreshing the DMG increase effect. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.
Kaboom the Cannon
When any friendly unit in the squad attacks and hits an enemy, all friendly units' ATK increases by 2.5/2.8/3.2/3.6/4% for 8s, stacking up to 4 times. The duration of each stack is calculated separately, and each friendly unit can provide 1 stack of the buff. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.
Unfettered Game Ball
Whenever the equipper's attack triggers an Attribute Counter effect, all units' CRIT Rate against the struck enemy increases by 12/13.5/15.5/17.5/20% for 12s. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.
Bashful Demon
Increases Ice DMG by 15/17.5/20/22/24%. When launching an EX Special Attack, all squad members' ATK increases by 2/2.3/2.6/2.9/3.2% for 12s, stacking up to 4 times. Repeated triggers reset the duration. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.
Dreamlit Hearth
The equipper's Energy Regen increases by 0.4/0.46/0.52/0.58/0.64/s. When the equipper activates Ether Veil or extends its duration, all squad members gain 25/28.8/32.5/36.3/40% increased DMG and 15/17.3/19.5/21.8/24% increased Max HP for 45s. Repeated triggers reset the duration. Only one instance of this effect can exist in the same squad.
This weapon ranking is calculated in a team including Aria, Ukinami Yuzuha, Sunna. Facing against Vesper with the DMG accumulated during the stun window. Kaboom the Cannon is the baseline W-Engine.
| W-Engine | DMG | % of baseline |
|---|---|---|
| Thoughtbop P1 | 10,165,156 | 111.16% |
| Weeping Cradle* P1 | 9,409,529 | 102.89% |
| Kaboom the Cannon P5 | 9,144,848 | 100% |
| Kaboom the Cannon P1 | 8,872,622 | 97.02% |
| Bashful Demon P5 | 8,594,439 | 93.98% |
| Bashful Demon P1 | 8,528,617 | 93.26% |
As this calculation was made with Aria, Unfettered Game Ball was not included in this calculation as the Crit Rate buff does not particularly benefit Anomaly Agents. With Ye Shunguang, P5 Unfettered Game Ball is ~4-5% better than P5 Kaboom the Cannon. * Note: Weeping Cradles result here would be invalid with Aria or Nangong Yu as mentioned before, this ranking assumes the off-field effects still apply for demonstration purposes with other Agents.
While Sunna's signature W-Engine Thoughtbop is her BiS, it is not necessary to get, as other W-Engines, even ones that can be obtained for free such as Weeping Cradle or Kaboom the Cannon, perform well and are not far from her signature W-Engine. Generally, Support Support Agents' signature W-Engines are not a priority and don't usually provide as much of an increase in damage as getting a DPS's signature W-Engine or in some cases your Stun Agent's signature W-Engine such as with Nangong Yu.
Best Drive Discs for Sunna
Sunna's best Drive Disc set is the Moonlight Lullaby set. However, in teams where Sunna is paired with other Support Support Agents running this set, such as Ukinami Yuzuha, Sunna or your other Support Agent can use a different set as Moonlight Lullaby's effect does not stack with multiple characters using the same set.
Moonlight Lullaby
4-Piece Set: When the equipper is a Support character and uses an EX Special Attack or Ultimate, the DMG dealt by all squad members increases by 18% for 25s. Repeated triggers reset the duration. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.
2-Piece Recommendations include:
- Swing Jazz (Any 2pc ER)
- Astral Voice (Any 2pc ATK)
- King of the Summit (2pc Daze)
Alternative Options
Alternatives include:
- Astral Voice Recommended
- Swing Jazz
- Proto Punk
Using Astral Voice on the other Support Agent, such as Ukinami Yuzuha, can be slightly better if you're playing them with Astra Yao. In such teams, Sunna's EX-Specials will be more involved in Aria's stun rotation, and having Moonlight Lullaby on Sunna is the better option for consistency.
Sunna's Stat Priority
When building Sunna, ATK is the most important stat on both Disc 4, Disc 5, and substats, as her buffs scale directly from her own Attack. Sunna requires 3,500 ATK to reach her maximum buff of +1,050 ATK for the entire squad. This requirement is slightly higher than Astra Yao or Ukinami Yuzuha, making her a bit more demanding to build.
Energy Regen is also valuable, as it allows Sunna to consistently use her 70-cost EX-Special Attack to maintain buffs and activate Ether Veil.
ER or ATK Sixth Disk
Sunna's best 6th Drive Disc stat depends on your team, though ER is generally preferred.
More ER for Sunna means more EX-Specials, and therefore Quick Assists and Ether Veils. This is especially valuable when paired with DPS characters that benefit from frequent Ether Veils, such as Ye Shunguang, as it allows you to enter Ye Shunguang's Enlightened Mind state more often.
Moreover, ATK % can be gained through substats while ER cannot. With an ER W-Engine and a reasonable ATK % investment from Disc 4, 5, and substats, Sunna can still reach or come close to the 3,500 ATK requirement.
With Aria, Sunna's Ether Veils will grant more Fandom power and therefore more enhanced basics. EX-Special usage is most important during stun windows where most of her damage occurs. Outside of these windows, the focus shifts to building Daze. In these cases, an Impact 6th Disc and a 2pc Daze set can significantly improve stun consistency, especially in teams without a dedicated stun agent such as Nangong Yu.
Other stats, such as CRIT DMG/Rate and PEN, only serve to increase Sunna's personal DMG and should only be considered if the primary attack target is achieved.
Sunna's Skill Priority
Sunna's Core Skill is her highest priority, as it determines both her ATK buff the damage of Cat's Gaze mark. Other skills are less essential, only providing some utility, such as Sunna's Ultimate: Smash It All! providing minor healing, Daze, or very minor increases her own personal damage. Entering the Angelic Chord-ination state through Sunna's EX-Special EX Special Attack: Bubblegum Barrage grants a flat 50 ATK buff unaffected skill level, bringing her total ATK buff to 1,100.
Sunna's dodge counter Dodge Counter: Delusion Strikeout might be frequently used to assist in stunning enemies, which can make leveling Sunna's assist worthwhile for the extra daze applied.
How to Play Sunna
Sunna is a Support Support Agent who provides a general ATK buff, a 30% Stun DMG Multiplier, an Ether Veil, as well as bonus damage from her Core Skill. Most of Sunna's kit revolves around using her EX-Special to activate the Ether Veil and marking enemies with the Cat's Gaze Core Passive: Cuteness Is Justice.
Sunna's Buffs & Utility
Sunna's EX-Special will summon her 'cat' Bubblegum and activates the Angelic Chord-ination state. Bubblegum mark enemies from off-field while the Angelic Chord-ination state buffs squad members and allows Sunna to use the second version of her EX-Special at no cost. This deals damage and, more importantly, activates an Ether Veil: Delusion Reprise. Switching into Sunna will be to use her EX-Special to enter Angelic Chord-ination, then use her second EX-Special to activate her Ether Veil: Delusion Reprise, using 2 EX-Specials back to back. You could also hold instead of pressing EX-Special twice.
In most cases, holding Sunna's EX-Special is more convenient to trigger buffs. However, there can be a case where you only want to use Sunna's first EX-Special to refresh or gain the attack buff and save the second EX-Special and Ether Veil for later. This can be seen with Aria's stun rotation only starting with Sunna's first EX-Special to avoid overcapping on Aria's Fandom Power stacks, with the second EX-Special being used later.
During the Angelic Chord-ination State Sunna provides:
- Flat 50 ATK
- Up to 1,050 Attack
Both the Ether Veil and Angelic Chord-ination state provide:
- Up to 1,100 Attack
- 30% Stun DMG Multiplier to any enemy hit by squad members (Faction Bonus)
Sunna's faction bonus requires either Attack Attack agents or Angels of Delusion agents from the same faction. This faction bonus allows a 30% Stun DMG multiplier to be applied to enemies attacked by any agent in the Angelic Chord-ination state. Additionally, upon entering combat, Sunna gains 15 energy. Sunna's EX-Special costs 70 energy; in some game modes such as Shiyu Defense, agents start with 60 energy—in this case, the bonus 15 energy will allow Sunna to immediately use her EX-Special.
Sunna's Ultimate can restore HP once used, but additionally grants 'Claw Sharpener' points which are introduced below.
Sunna's Bonus Damage
Bubblegum can attack and mark enemies by consuming 1 point of Sunna's special resource, Claw Sharpener. This special resource allows the Cat's Gaze to continuously be applied and can be easily restored by:
- Any squad member activating an Ether Veil (+2 Points).
- Any squad member applying an Attribute Anomaly (+1 Point).
- Sunna's Ultimate (+6 Points).
Up to 6 points can be accumulated. Sunna's Bubblegum attacks and Claw Sharpener points act in a similar way to Ukinami Yuzuha Yuzuha's special resource, which allows her to continuously trigger off-field attacks. However, Sunna's off-field attacks do not count as aftershock attacks.
This mark must 'detonate' to deal damage. Detonating a mark requires it to be hit by 3 "Heavy Attacks"; once the mark detonates, it will disappear and will need to be re-applied. If an enemy is stunned, only a single Heavy Attack is required. A Heavy Attack is basically the last 'hit' of:
- A string of Basic Attacks, with the last hit counting as a Heavy Attack.
- EX-Specials / Chain Attacks & Ultimates / Counters / Assists.
A Heavy Attack is also what triggers the Chain Attack Window when an enemy is stunned.
The damage dealt by Cat's Gaze when it detonates counts as damage dealt by the on-field agent, in which it inherits their stats such as attack, crit, and pen. The damage is also dependent on the type of agent detonating the mark:
- With Attack Attack Agents, the mark deals DMG equal to 300% of their Attack.
- With Anomaly Agents, the mark deals DMG equal to 480% of their Attack, but always crits with crit damage increased by 150%.
This differentiation allows Anomaly agents, specifically Aria, to still deal damage through the mark as they are typically not built for crit as an attack agent would be.
Sunna's Best Mindscapes
This Mindscape ranking is calculated in a team including Aria, Ukinami Yuzuha, and Sunna, facing against Vesper with the DMG accumulated during the stun window. A baseline of M0P1 Agents is used. Generally, the specific enemy used in damage calculations does not make a difference, but the Vesper Boss having half as much DEF compared to other Boss enemies has direct implications on the value of Sunna's M1.
| Mindscape | Improvement from Previous | Total |
|---|---|---|
| M0 | - | 100% |
| M1 | 6.40% | 106.40% |
| M2 | 13.25% | 119.65% |
| M3 | ~0% | 119.73% |
| M4 | 9.16% | 128.89% |
| M5 | ~0% | 128.96% |
| M6 | 18.13% | 147.09% |
Sunna's M1 "Loneliness Corruption Symptoms" decreases enemy DEF by 7% when Cat's Gaze DMG triggers, lasting for 40s and stacking up to 3 times for up to 24% Defense reduction. DEF reduction allows your agents to deal more damage by reducing the enemies' defense. The effectiveness depends on the boss such as Vesper having much less DEF than a lot of bosses. Against Bosses with normal Full DEF, Sunna's M1 is a very strong Mindscape providing around 12.4% more damage to the team.
Sunna's M2 "Feline Go-With-the-Flow" grants squad members a further 10% attack buff, and enhances her Cat's Gaze by granting more Claw Sharpener points (potentially more DMG instances), increasing Cat's Gaze multipliers, and lowering the number of attacks required to detonate Cat's Gaze.
M3 and M5 increase skill level, which primarily increases Sunna's own personal damage. The extra daze can be potentially useful, but is not reflected in this calculation. M3 and M5 are not worth aiming for but only serve as a step towards later mindscapes.
Sunna's M4 "Delusion Investigation Team" keeps the buffs going by providing a bonus 18% DMG increase to squad members for 60 seconds after using her ultimate.
Sunna's M6 "Hollow Big Bang" enables her to function on-field, significantly increasing both her personal damage and Cat's Gaze damage. After using an EX-Special, she enters an 8-second state where she can detonate Cat's Gaze herself using the Attack Agent multiplier, while gaining 100% Crit Rate and bonus Crit DMG based on 0.03% of ATK (up to 105% at 3,500 ATK). This duration can be extended by splitting her two EX-Specials. Even when played off-field, this Mindscape remains valuable by briefly boosting her damage contribution and enhancing Cat's Gaze.
