Sunna Guide & Best Builds

Welcome to our Sunna build guide for Zenless Zone Zero. Sunna is a powerful S-Rank Physical Physical Support Support Agent capable of providing significant buffs to Angels of Delusion agents, Attack Attack agents and (with some caveats) Anomaly agents. In our guide, we'll cover everything you need to know to get the most out of your Sunna, from building the best Drive Discs and W-Engines to important stat priorities and combos.

Sunna's Best W-Engines

Listed below are Sunna's best W-Engines. While W-Engines are listed in a priority order, what's best to build on your Sunna can vary based on specific team comps, with factors such as how fast your DPS is able to trigger Sunna's Cat's Gaze mark affecting how different W-Engines perform.

Thoughtbop
Decibel Monologue
While not the active character, the equipper's Energy Regen increases by 0.6/0.69/0.78/0.87/0.96/s. When the equipper uses an EX Special Attack and deals Physical DMG, all squad members gain a buff that increases DMG dealt by 12.5/14.3/16.1/17.9/20% for 40s, stacking up to 2 times. Repeated triggers reset the duration. At 2 stacks, characters gain an additional 10/11.5/13/14.5/16% ATK. Only one instance of this effect can exist in the same squad.
Sunna's signature W-Engine is her best option for most team comps, providing Energy Regen to Sunna and a 25% DMG bonus as well as 10% ATK to all squad members. This W-Engine's effect can be stacked easily by Sunna as she always uses her EX-Special twice in a row to activate her buffs. With Thoughtbop, Sunna gains a lot of Energy Regen; using a sixth partition ATK% piece instead of an ER piece can be better as it allows her to reach the 3,500 ATK requirement to maximize her ATK buff.
Weeping Cradle
Punishment
While off-field, the equipper's Energy Regen increases by 0.6/0.75/0.9/1.05/1.2/s. Attacks from the equipper increase all units' DMG against a struck target by 10/12.5/15/17.5/20% for 3 seconds. During this period, this effect is further increased by 1.7/2/2.5/3/3.3% every 0.5s, up to a maximum additional increase of 10.2/12/15/18/19.8%. Repeated triggers only refresh the duration without refreshing the DMG increase effect. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.
A standard banner S-Rank Support W-Engine which can also be obtained through store currency. Weeping Cradle is a decent option on Sunna as it provides up to a 20.7% DMG Bonus for a short 3-second duration when Sunna attacks an enemy either from on-field or off-field through Basic Attack: Naughty Cat Spotted. However, Sunna's off-field attack also depends on how fast your on-field agent can detonate the Cat's Gaze mark, which can make this W-Engine slightly inconsistent compared to other options in some teams. Overall, a decent option to use on Sunna.
Kaboom the Cannon
Stampede Accident
When any friendly unit in the squad attacks and hits an enemy, all friendly units' ATK increases by 2.5/2.8/3.2/3.6/4% for 8s, stacking up to 4 times. The duration of each stack is calculated separately, and each friendly unit can provide 1 stack of the buff. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.
Sunna's Basic Attack: Naughty Cat Spotted skill allows her to hit enemies off-field, which can trigger and stack Kaboom the Cannon's attack buff to squad members. Unlike Weeping Cradle, the attack buff provided lasts longer, which can also make it more consistent to use across various team comps. Overall, a decent A-Rank option to use on Sunna.
Unfettered Game Ball
Game Start!
Whenever the equipper's attack triggers an Attribute Counter effect, all units' CRIT Rate against the struck enemy increases by 12/13.5/15.5/17.5/20% for 12s. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.
With Attack agents such as Ye Shunguang, and facing Physical weak enemies, Sunna can use this W-Engine as it provides a 12% to 20% CRIT Rate buff only against enemies weak to the equipping character's attribute. However, the many requirements to use this W-Engine can make it inconsistent on top of the fact that Anomaly Agents such as Astra Yao don't benefit from CRIT Rate. However, with Ye Shunguang being the same attribute as Sunna, you can use this W-Engine in teams with Ye Shunguang.
Bashful Demon
Visage of Greed
Increases Ice DMG by 15/17.5/20/22/24%. When launching an EX Special Attack, all squad members' ATK increases by 2/2.3/2.6/2.9/3.2% for 12s, stacking up to 4 times. Repeated triggers reset the duration. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.
Sunna can make use of Bashful Demon's attack buff as the effect triggers when using an EX-Special attack, stacking up to 4 times and lasting for 12 seconds. Sunna can stack this effect twice for a 4% (P1) to 6.4% (P5) ATK buff; however, this effect only lasts for 12 seconds, which can make it less consistent than Kaboom the Cannon on top of being harder to stack reliably. Useable option on Sunna but not recommended over other A-Rank options such as Kaboom the Cannon.
Dreamlit Hearth
Moontide Epic
The equipper's Energy Regen increases by 0.4/0.46/0.52/0.58/0.64/s. When the equipper activates Ether Veil or extends its duration, all squad members gain 25/28.8/32.5/36.3/40% increased DMG and 15/17.3/19.5/21.8/24% increased Max HP for 45s. Repeated triggers reset the duration. Only one instance of this effect can exist in the same squad.
Dreamlit Hearth can be used on Sunna for a 25% DMG buff when the equipping character activates or extends an Ether Veil, with the effect lasting for 45 seconds. While this W-Engine provides a consistent DMG buff, its HP substat and HP buff serve little purpose for Sunna and her teams.

While Sunna's signature W-Engine Thoughtbop is her BiS, it is not necessary to get as other W-Engines, even ones that can be obtained for free such as Weeping Cradle or Kaboom the Cannon, perform well and are not far from her signature W-Engine. Generally, Support Support Agent's signature W-Engines are not a priority and don't usually provide as much of an increase in damage as getting a DPS' signature W-Engine.

Best Drive Discs for Sunna

Sunna's best Drive Disc set is the Moonlight Lullaby set. However, in teams where Sunna is paired with other Support Support Agents running this set, such as Ukinami Yuzuha, Sunna or your other Support Agent can use a different set as Moonlight Lullaby's effect does not stack with multiple characters using the same set.

Moonlight Lullaby
2-Piece Set: Energy Regen +20%
4-Piece Set: When the equipper is a Support character and uses an EX Special Attack or Ultimate, the DMG dealt by all squad members increases by 18% for 25s. Repeated triggers reset the duration. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.
Sunna's best Drive Disc set as it provides a consistent 18% DMG Bonus for 25 seconds to all squad members after using her EX-Special Attack. Refreshing the duration once every 25 seconds should not be difficult with Sunna having bonus Energy Regen stats, such as from a sixth partition ER disc or ER substat on her W-Engine.

2-Piece Recommendations include:

  • Swing Jazz (Any 2pc ER)
  • Astral Voice (Any 2pc ATK)
The best 2pc Drive Disc option depends on how much ATK Sunna currently has. 2pc Energy Regen would be ideal as ER cannot be gained through substats; however, if not enough ATK is achieved to reach Sunna's 3,500 ATK requirement for her maximum buff, an ATK 2pc Drive Disc can be used instead.
Alternative Options
-

Alternative options on Sunna can be considered when other squad members, such as Ukinami Yuzuha, already equip Moonlight Lullaby. Either Sunna or the second Support Agent can use the alternative set, and it generally does not matter who ends up with the alternative set option.

Recommendations include:

  • Swing Jazz
  • Astral Voice
  • Proto Punk

Using Astral Voice on the other Support Agent, such as Ukinami Yuzuha, can be slightly better, as Sunna's EX-Special costs more energy than other Support Agents, resulting in less frequent Quick Assists which in turn makes it slightly harder to gain more than 1 stack.

Sunna's Stat Priority

Disc 4: ATK %
Disc 5: ATK %
Disc 6: ER > ATK %
Substats: ATK % (Until Target) >> CRIT DMG / Rate > PEN

Generally speaking, when building Sunna, Attack is the most important stat to prioritize as her attack buffs directly scale off of her own Attack stat. Sunna requires 3,500 ATK to reach her maximum ATK buff of +1,050 ATK to all squad members. Sunna's ATK requirement is slightly higher than Astra Yao (~3,430) or Ukinami Yuzuha (3,000), which can make it slightly harder to build around. Energy Regen is also a useful stat that ensures Sunna can use her EX-Special Attack consistently to provide buffs to the team or activate her Ether Veil.

Sunna can build either ER or ATK % for the sixth partition, but the best option depends on your W-Engine.

  • With a W-Engine that provides ER (such as Sunna's signature), an ATK % sixth partition may be required to reach 3,500 ATK.
  • With a W-Engine that provides ATK, an ER sixth partition can be used instead if enough ATK is already achieved.

Generally speaking, if your Sunna is missing a bit of attack to reach 3,500 ATK - going for an ER sixth partition can be the better option. ATK can be gained through sub stat rolls while ER can be more difficult to gain. Ideally, you would get enough ATK from sub stats and use ER on the sixth partition even if the equipped W-Engine provides ER. More ER can provide potential value, while more ATK over 3,500 is unnecessary.

Other stats, such as CRIT DMG/Rate and PEN, only serve to increase Sunna's personal DMG and should only be considered if the primary attack target is achieved. Sunna's Cat's Gaze mark deals a decent amount of damage but counts as damage dealt by the active agent, which renders Sunna's own CRIT stats ineffective.

Sunna's Skill Priority

Skill Priority: >> >= > > =

Sunna's most important and highest priority skill is her Core Skill, which determines the ATK buff and how much damage the Cat's Gaze mark deals. Other skills are not necessary to level and only provide some utility, such as Sunna's Ultimate: Smash It All! level which determines how much healing is received, or increase her own personal damage which only accounts for a small portion of the team's damage. It is worth noting that entering the Angelic Chord-ination state through Sunna's EX-Special EX Special Attack: Bubblegum Barrage provides squad members with a flat 50 ATK buff which is not tied to skill level (bringing the total ATK buff Sunna provides to 1,100).

How to Play Sunna

Sunna is a Support Support Agent who provides a general ATK buff, a 30% Stun DMG Multiplier, an Ether Veil, as well as bonus damage from her Core Skill. Most of Sunna's kit revolves around using her EX-Special to activate the Ether Veil and marking enemies with the Cat's Gaze Core Passive: Sunna.

1.

Sunna's Buffs & Utility

Sunna's EX-Special will summon her 'cat' called Bubblegum and activates the Angelic Chord-ination state. Bubblegum allows her to mark enemies from off-field. The Angelic Chord-ination state grants buffs to squad members and allows Sunna to use the second version of her EX-Special at no cost (once per Angelic Chord-ination state), which deals damage and, more importantly, activates an Ether Veil: Delusion Reprise. In practice, switching into Sunna will be to use her EX-Special to enter the Angelic Chord-ination state, then use her second EX-Special to activate her Ether Veil: Delusion Reprise, in which she effectively uses 2 EX-Specials back to back. You could also hold instead of pressing EX-Special twice.

During the Angelic Chord-ination State Sunna provides:

  • Flat 50 ATK
  • Up to 1,050 Attack

Both the Ether Veil and Angelic Chord-ination state provide:

  • Up to 1,100 Attack
  • 30% Stun DMG Multiplier to any enemy hit by squad members (Faction Bonus)

Sunna's faction bonus requires either Attack Attack agents or Angels of Delusion agents from the same faction. This faction bonus allows a 30% Stun DMG multiplier to be applied to enemies attacked by any agent in the Angelic Chord-ination state. Additionally, upon entering combat, Sunna gains 15 energy. Sunna's EX-Special costs 70 energy; in some game modes such as Shiyu Defense, agents start with 60 energy—in this case, the bonus 15 energy will allow Sunna to immediately use her EX-Special. This faction being limited to Attack agents and agents in the same faction does slightly hinder Sunna's synergy with Anomaly agents; however, that mostly comes in the form of losing out on the starting 15 energy, as the bonus 30% Stun DMG multiplier does not affect gameplay in Anomaly teams.

Sunna's Ultimate can restore HP once used, but additionally grants 'Claw Sharpener' points which are introduced below.

2.

Sunna's Bonus Damage

The Cat's Gaze is a mark that can be applied by Sunna while she's on-field or by Bubblegum while she's off-field (Sunna's cat and friendly off-field summon). Sunna's EX-Special(s) and Chain Attack can apply the Cat's Gaze. If Sunna is off-field and no enemy is marked by the Cat's Gaze, Bubblegum can attack and mark enemies by consuming 1 point of Sunna's special resource, Claw Sharpener. This special resource allows the Cat's Gaze to continuously be applied and can be easily restored by:

  • Any squad member activating an Ether Veil (+2 Points).
  • Any squad member applying an Attribute Anomaly (+1 Point).
  • Sunna's Ultimate (+6 Points).
Sunna's Claw Sharpener Resource Points.

Up to 6 points can be accumulated. Sunna's Bubblegum attacks and Claw Sharpener points act in a similar way to Ukinami Yuzuha Yuzuha's special resource, which allows her to continuously trigger off-field attacks. (It is important to note that Sunna's off-field attacks do not count as aftershock attacks.)

While not being significant damage, Sunna's Cat's Gaze mark can deal a decent amount of additional damage. This mark must 'detonate' to deal damage. Detonating a mark requires it to be hit by 3 "Heavy Attacks"; once the mark detonates, it will disappear and will need to be re-applied. If an enemy is stunned, only a single Heavy Attack is required. A Heavy Attack is basically the last 'hit' of:

  • A string of Basic Attacks, with the last hit counting as a Heavy Attack.
  • EX-Specials / Chain Attacks & Ultimates / Counters / Assists.

A Heavy Attack is also what triggers the Chain Attack Window when an enemy is stunned. For example: when an enemy's stun meter is at 100% it only triggers the chain attack window when hit by an Ex-Special, the last hit of a Basic Attack String, etc...

The damage dealt by Cat's Gaze when it detonates counts as damage dealt by the on-field agent, in which it inherits their stats such attack, crit, pen. The damage is also dependent on the type of agent detonating the mark:

  • With Attack Attack Agents, the mark deals DMG equal to 300% of their Attack.
  • With Anomaly Agents, the mark deals DMG equal to 480% of their Attack, but always crits with crit damage increased by 150%.

This differentiation allows Anomaly agents specifically Aria to still deal damage through the mark as they are typically not built for crit as an attack agent would be.
