Aleco 252 Report post Posted April 3, 2018 Rogue is getting a new weapon in The Witchwood, but is it good enough to make its way into Kingsbane decks? Rogue is getting a new weapon in The Witchwood, but is it good enough to make its way into Kingsbane decks? Card image courtesy of HsTopDecks We've learned from Kingsbane + Leeching Poison that Lifesteal on a weapon can be quite powerful, but its pretty hard for me to get excited about Spectral Cutlass. It doesn't deal nearly enough damage on its own to kill threatening minions without having to throw weapon buffs on it, and if you plan on buffing up your Rogue weapons why would you ever run this over Kingsbane? I'd venture to guess that its also much more consistent and get back your Kingsbane's 3 Durability with Cavern Shinyfinders than it is to build a deck around off-class cards to increase the durability of Spectral Cutlass. Unless I'm missing something obvious, this card gets a firm pass from me. Think I'm wrong? I encourage you to let me know about in the comment section! And as always, feel free to check out our Witchwood Hub for more information about the upcoming expansion.
Amorandra 6 Report post Posted April 3, 2018 true the damage is low but you could throw alot of the weapon dmg buff cards into the deck like you do with kingsbane decks... throw some card steal cards and have a ever increasing weapon that you dont need leeching poison for... kingsbane deck is certainly better than this but I love the rogue steal decks so I could see this being mixed into it to add some strength if your getting weak steals. Yup. I like to play thief rogue in wild and this weapon is pretty good for it. Maybe not amazing in standard setups but nice addition to rogue. Most of normal decks probably can give it 2 more durability as alot of them have at least swashburglar.
FanOfValeera 253 Report post Posted April 3, 2018 Thief rogue is another archetype Blizz tries to buff over time. But then, they give best steal cards to priest. This card is good for such archetype. Losing Swashburglar & Peddler will hurt this, but there is always Lilian Voss and Hallucination. We even have the 4 mana weapon.
Taan 46 Report post Posted April 3, 2018 I don't think that the comparison with Kingsbane is fair here. Kingsbane-Decks want to play and buff Kingsbane and thats it. This one fits basically only into some sort of Steal-Rouge...which is fine. The real question is: is this better than Shadowblade or Obsidian Shard? Yeah, you can use this more often and it has lifesteal (which is pretty nice on a weapon and pretty nice on Rouge) but it also makes your heropower basically useless for a long time and it costs 4 Mana. I think most people would still play Shadowblade and/or Obsidian Shard over this.
Caldyrvan 377 Report post Posted April 3, 2018 (edited) I agree with Aleco and again we get insulted with a card that is medium powered, at best, but being epic. Edited April 3, 2018 by Caldyrvan

I could see this replacing obs shard... sure its 4mana but if the meta is fast enough you might need the heal + removal
Caldyrvan 377 Report post Posted April 3, 2018 I don't remember the last time seeing an Obsidian Shard, ococcasionally a Shadowblade maybe. In standard all the rogue weapons are not really popular (besides Kingsbane currently) and mostly they are just a 1 of in a deck, like Shadowblade. Amorandra 6 Report post Posted April 3, 2018 thief rogue is seen alot more in wild as so many cards have left standard or are about to. based on the cards that have been released i dont see a place for this card other than wild. perhaps arena... VaraTreledees 138 Report post Posted April 3, 2018 Rogue gets another unplayable card. Nothing to see here, move along. As usual.
Oxygen 431 Report post Posted April 3, 2018 Strange rarity, again. Strange condition, again. Probably unplayable... again. Besides Wrench (which is now years ago), I feel like rogues were never given proper weapons. Strong core cards are pretty much preventing rogues from ever getting a strong weapon, it seems. Cogmaster's Wrench Poisoned Blade Shadowblade Obsidian Shard
