Chongyun Guide & Best Builds

Welcome to our Chongyun build guide for Genshin Impact. Chongyun is a 4-Star Cryo character that is one of the only characters able to buff ATK SPD, and he also provides nice Cryo infusion. In our guide, we will cover everything you need to know to get the most out of your Chongyun, from building the best Artifacts and Weapons to important stat priorities and rotations.

Best Weapons for Chongyun

Listed below are Chongyun's best weapons. While weapons are listed in a priority order, what is best to build on your Chongyun can vary depending on the team composition and level of investment you want to put into Chongyun.

Wolf's Gravestone

Wolfish Tracker

Base ATK: 608

ATK: 49.6%

Increases ATK by 20% / 25% / 30% / 35% / 40%. On hit, attacks against opponents with less than 30% HP increase all party members' ATK by 40% / 50% / 60% / 70% / 80% for 12s. Can only occur once every 30s.

Wolf's Gravestone is Chongyun's best weapon since it not only boosts his own ATK, but also the entire team. And since Chongyun is most often used as a Sub-DPS, this is perfect for him.
Beacon of the Reed Sea

Desert Watch

Base ATK: 608

CRIT Rate: 33.1%

After the character's Elemental Skill hits an opponent, their ATK will be increased by 20% / 25% / 30% / 35% / 40% for 8s. After the character takes DMG, their ATK will be increased by 20% / 25% / 30% / 35% / 40% for 8s. The 2 aforementioned effects can be triggered even when the character is not on the field. Additionally, when not protected by a shield, the character's Max HP will be increased by 32% / 40% / 48% / 56% / 64%.

Beacon of the Reed Sea is the best weapon for Chongyun if you want to focus more on his personal DMG. It grants a massive CRIT Rate bonus and ATK% buff.
Serpent Spine

Wavesplitter

Base ATK: 510

CRIT Rate: 27.6%

Every 4s a character is on the field, they will deal 6% / 7% / 8% / 9% / 10% more DMG and take 3% / 2.7% / 2.4% / 2.2% / 2% more DMG. This effect has a maximum of 5 stacks and will not be reset if the character leaves the field, but will be reduced by 1 stack when the character takes DMG.

Serpent Spine is the best 4-Star weapon for Chongyun thanks to the bonus CRIT Rate and the DMG buff, however, it is a Battle Pass weapon.
Sacrificial Greatsword

Composed

Base ATK: 565

Energy Recharge: 30.6%

After damaging an opponent with an Elemental Skill, the skill has a 40% / 50% / 60% / 70% / 80% chance to end its own CD. Can only occur once every 30s / 26s / 22s / 19s / 16s.

Sacrificial Greatsword is the best fully Free-to-play weapon since you can craft it which allows you to use Chongyun's skill twice in a row.
Other Claymore Options

-

On top of the previously mentioned weapons, Chongyun can also use the following Claymores:

Best Artifacts for Chongyun

Noblesse Oblige

Noblesse Oblige

2-Piece Set: Elemental Burst DMG +20%

4-Piece Set: Using an Elemental Burst increases all party members' ATK by 20% for 12s. This effect cannot stack.

For this build, you want to use Noblesse Oblige for Chongyun. It provides a solid ATK buff for his teammates during his Burst.
Emblem of Severed Fate

Emblem of Severed Fate

2-Piece Set: Energy Recharge +20%

4-Piece Set: Increases Elemental Burst DMG by 25% of Energy Recharge. A maximum of 75% bonus DMG can be obtained in this way.

If someone else in your team already wears Noblesse Oblige, Emblem of Severed Fate is a great alternative. It provides ER and increases his Elemental Burst DMG.
Blizzard Strayer

Blizzard Strayer

2-Piece Set: Cryo DMG Bonus +15%

4-Piece Set: When a character attacks an opponent affected by Cryo, their CRIT Rate is increased by 20%. If the opponent is Frozen, CRIT Rate is increased by an additional 20%.

If you want to focus more on Chongyun's personal DMG, you can use Blizzard Strayer for the additional Cryo DMG and CRIT Rate bonus.

Chongyun's Stat Priority

Sands of Eon: ER / ATK %
Circlet of Logos: CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG
Substats: Energy Recharge > CRIT Rate = CRIT DMG > ATK %

Recommended Stats for Chongyun

Build recommendations assume a "decently built" level of artifact rolls alongside Chongyun's best weapon. Using other weapons may increase or decrease certain stats relative to these recommendations.

ATK: 1800 - 2000
CRIT Rate: 60 - 70%
CRIT DMG: 150 - 170%
Cryo DMG: 60 - 70%
ER: 120-130%

Chongyun's Energy Requirements are rather low since his Burst does not cost that much, but you should still aim towards 130% ER.

Chongyun's Talent Priority

Talent Priority: Spirit Blade: Cloud-Parting Star > Spirit Blade: Chonghua's Layered Frost > Demonbane

For Chongyun, you want to prioritize his Elemental Burst and Skill first. His Normal Attack can be upgraded slightly, but you do not need to max it.

How to Play Chongyun

Chongyun is one of the easiest characters to play since he does not require any big rotation, or anything specific to function. He is mainly used as a Burst Support, since his Spirit Blade: Cloud-Parting Star Burst deals massive damage. You will swap to Chongyun to put down his Spirit Blade: Chonghua's Layered Frost AoE zone that will infuse with Cryo any melee weapons of characters who are inside the circle, and then use his Burst before swapping back to the main DPS.

Chongyun's Best Constellations

Chongyun's C2 and C4 are the most viable, as they respectively grant him less Cooldown and more energy regeneration. However, you do not need to target him specifically, since he is a 4-Star you will eventually get all his constellations through pulling for other characters.

Investment Priority: Constellation 2 > Constellation 4
