Elemental Shaman Guide for Mists of Pandaria Classic
Elemental has a ton of utility, including the important and rare
5% Spell Haste
Elemental Oath raid buff, and is one of the most mobile ranged
damage dealers with
Lightning Bolt, making it a very flexible DPS who can also
do a ton of area damage with
Chain Lightning in fights with stacked enemies.
Is Elemental Shaman Viable in Mists of Pandaria Classic?
Elemental continues to be a strong caster in Mists of Pandaria with many quality
of life changes, including having Lightning Bolt become usable while moving
baseline. They also gain a new offensive cooldown in
Ascendance, defensive
cooldown in
Shamanistic Rage, and off-healing cooldown in
Healing Tide Totem
and
Ancestral Guidance.
Elemental also benefits from sharing most of its gear with Restoration, allowing for smooth off-spec healing.
Very high area damage on clumped targets
Chain Lightning can cleave;
Shared gear with Restoration allows for easy swapping between damage and healing between encounters;
High mobility with
Ghost Wolf plus
Lightning Bolt and survivability with
Astral Shift plus
Shamanistic Rage.
Relatively low single target damage;
Simple rotation can lead to boring gameplay;
Weak area damage against spread targets due to reliance on
Chain Lightning cleave.
Best Races for Elemental Shaman
Without going too deep into detail, Orc is still the best race for Horde
Elemental Shamans due to Blood Fury for even more burst and
Command,
which is likely to affect
Fire Elemental Totem. In PvP they will also
benefit from
Hardiness, one of the best PvP racials in the game!
Goblin is also alright if you need extra mobility due to their Rocket Jump,
and you will also get 1% extra Haste while playing one.
Alliance Shamans will now be able to be Dwarf and while Stoneform
can help get rid of debuffs Shamans can no longer dispel, Draenei should
generally be superior due to their free Hit from
Heroic Presence and some
free healing from
Gift of the Naaru.
Best Professions for Elemental Shaman
Engineering — Engineering is the best PvE profession in the game due to the extra burst healing granted by
Synapse Springs, and mobility increase of
Nitro Boosts.
Tailoring — Tailoring is also a great PvE profession due to enabling
Lightweave Embroidery for even more burst DPS when it lines up with the other cooldowns and trinkets.
Alchemy — Finally, Alchemy can be of use due to enabling the
Zen Alchemist Stone trinket early on, which will stay great for Challenge Modes throughout the expansion, and it also saves some Flask gold with
Mixology.
