How to Play Astra Yao
Astra Yao is the first S-Rank Support agent that has the ability to heal you, making her an important squad member for the future, especially since a lot of endgame content is added to the game that requires you to have more survivability and damage, and Astra can do both.
Up until now, the only way to heal yourself during a fight was to use a Bangboo. Astra completely changes this, as her Ultimate ability will allow you to heal your entire squad. It is worth knowing that Astra's heal is capped at 2700 HP, making it a great addition, but you will not be able to fully heal yourself with her. However, Astra can also provide buffs.
She has a singing state: The Idyllic Cadenza. When Astra enters her singing state, she provides a DMG and CRIT DMG buff to all squad members.
DO NOT Hold when Astra is in the Idyllic Cadenza state, as this will exit the mode, and you would loose the damage buffs!
It is worth knowing that Astra can not move during the Idyllic Cadenza state, but you can dodge, use your Special Attack, or switch agents.
When Astra is in her Idyllic Cadenza state, she also takes less damage, and if you switch to another squad member, she will remain on the field but become invulnerable.
When you switch to another Agent during Astra's Idyllic Cadenza state through a Quick Assist, Chain Attack, Defensive Assist, or Evasive Assist, Astra will release Tremolo, deal damage, and increase both hers and the incoming agent's ATK. The buff is equal to a certain percentage of Astra's initial ATK, requiring you to focus on ATK % when building her.
Another speciality about Astra is the lack of EX Special Attack. She does not really have the usual EX Special Attack, and instead has a specific Chord mechanic. Every 25 energy gained gives Astra 1 Chord, and each chord during her Idyllic Cadenza state can trigger a Quick Assist. Again, if you switch to another Agent through that assist, Astra will deal damage.
To make it simple:
- Use Astra's Special attack, Chain attack or Ultimate to enter her Idyllic Cadenza State and buff the squad.
- Switch to other teammates.
- Trigger any assists to get Astra's Attack buff and her off-field attacks.

Astra's best W-Engine is her Elegant Vanity signature S-Rank W-Engine. It is the Best-in-Slot option for Astra as it will give her ATK % and ATK alongside further boosting her assist mechanics. Astra's attack buffs for herself and the other squad members making it a great build option. If you have Bashful Demon at R5, it may actually be as efficient as Astra's signature weapon in her build. It can surprisingly give you a very good overall ATK buff.
Weeping Cradle is another good option for Astra's build as it has a high base ATK, providing more damage for her and the team, while also giving more energy regeneration while Astra is off-field.
Build Astra's with the Astral Voice Drive Discs. This set will give Astra extra damage buffs to anyone enters the field with a Quick Assist. You can pair the 4-piece Astral Voice with either 2 piece Swing Jazz for increased energy regeneration, or Hormone Punk to build more ATK.
You do need to build around 3400+ ATK on Astra for her Core Passive.
Bangboo Information
The best Bangboo option for Astra Yao will be Knightboo, as he increase the Agent's ATK when there is a support character in the squad, and the agents come into contact with Knight Stars.
However, you may need to adjust the Bangboo depending on your other sqaud members!
Team Comps and Synergy
Astra Yao is currently the best Support agent you can have. She can be paired in almost any team which provides her with many viable team compositions.
DPS | Stun | Support | Bangboo |
---|---|---|---|
Hoshimi Miyabi | Tsukishiro Yanagi | Astra Yao | |
Ellen Joe | Lighter | Astra Yao | Knightboo |
Hoshimi Miyabi and Tsukishiro Yanagi are one of the best duos, adding Astra Yao to the team means they will gain additional buffs, and survivability! You can replace Yanagi with Lighter for his Ice DMG buff if you do not have Yanagi, Soukaku, or Von Lycaon. Astra also works well with Ellen Joe instead of Miyabi.
DPS | Stun | Support | Bangboo |
---|---|---|---|
Jane Doe | Burnice White | Astra Yao | Knightboo |
Jane Doe's Passion state can be triggered more often thanks to Astra's ability to allow you to use chain attack and assists. Burnice White is one of Jane's best teammate as she allows her to trigger Disorder often. You can replace Burnice with Caesar King or Seth Lowell. You can replace Jane Doe with Piper Wheel if you do not have Jane, and Burnice with Lucy for a more F2P Squad.
DPS | Stun | Support | Bangboo |
---|---|---|---|
Asaba Harumasa | Qingyi | Astra Yao |
Astra can provide a very good buff to Asaba Harumasa who often lacks a bit of damage compared to other DPS, while Qingyi will provide the Stun window to Harumasa.
DPS | Stun | Support | Bangboo |
---|---|---|---|
Evelyn Chevalier | Lighter | Astra Yao | Knightboo |
While this team requires you to wait and also pull for Evelyn right after Astra, it is already known they will both make a great team. They seem to have rather complementary mechanics on top of being from the same Faction. Lighter excels both in stunning and providing Evelyn with a Fire Buff. You can also replace Lighter with Caesar King.
