Welcome to our Astra Yao build guide for Zenless Zone Zero. In our guide, we will cover everything you need to know to get the most out of your Astra Yao, from building the best Drive Discs and W-Engines to important stat priorities and combos.
Astra Yao's Best W-Engines
Listed below are Astra Yao's best W-Engines. While W-Engines are listed in a priority order, what is best to build on your Astra Yao can vary slightly depending on your team composition.
Elegant Vanity
When any squad member enters the field through a Quick Assist, Chain Attack, Defensive Assist, or Evasive Assist, the equipper gains 5/5.5/6/6.5/7 Energy. This effect can trigger once every 5s. When the equipper consumes 25 or more Energy, the DMG dealt by all squad members increases by 10/11.5/13/14.5/16%, stacking up to 2 times, and lasting 20s. Repeated triggers reset the duration. Only one instance of this effect can exist in the same squad.
Bashful Demon
Increases Ice DMG by 15/17.5/20/22/24%. When launching an EX Special Attack, all squad members' ATK increases by 2/2.3/2.6/2.9/3.2% for 12s, stacking up to 4 times. Repeated triggers reset the duration. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.
Kaboom the Cannon
When any friendly unit in the squad attacks and hits an enemy, all friendly units' ATK increases by 2.5/2.8/3.2/3.6/4% for 8s, stacking up to 4 times. The duration of each stack is calculated separately, and each friendly unit can provide 1 stack of the buff. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.
Weeping Cradle
While off-field, the equipper's Energy Regen increases by 0.6/0.75/0.9/1.05/1.2/s. Attacks from the equipper increase all units' DMG against a struck target by 10/12.5/15/17.5/20% for 3 seconds. During this period, this effect is further increased by 1.7/2/2.5/3/3.3% every 0.5s, up to a maximum additional increase of 10.2/12/15/18/19.8%. Repeated triggers only refresh the duration without refreshing the DMG increase effect. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.
The Vault
Dealing Ether DMG using an EX Special Attack, Chain Attack, or Ultimate increases all units' DMG against the target by 15/17.5/20/22/24% and increases the equipper's Energy Regen by 0.5/0.58/0.65/0.72/0.8/s for 2s. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.

Astra Yao's Stat Priority
When building Astra Yao, ATK and Energy Regeneration are the most important stats to focus on. You need to build around 3400+ ATK on Astra for her Core Passive. Once you reached the recommended ATK, focus on getting as much Energy Regen as possible.
Astra Yao's Skill Priority
Astra Yao's most important skill to level is her Core skill since it provides an important increased DMG buff. Just as important is her EX Special Attack and Chain Attack.
How to Play Astra Yao
Astra Yao is has both the ability to heal you and buff you, making her an important squad member for almost every team, especially since a lot of endgame content is added to the game that requires you to have more survivability and damage, and Astra can do both.
Usually, the only way to heal yourself during a fight is to use a Bangboo. Astra completely changes this, as her Ultimate ability will allow you to heal your entire squad. It is worth knowing that Astra's heal is capped at 2700 HP, making it a great addition, but you will not be able to fully heal yourself with her. However, Astra can also provide buffs.
She has a singing state: Idyllic Cadenza. When Astra enters her singing state, she provides a DMG and CRIT DMG buff to all squad members.
DO NOT Hold when Astra is in the Idyllic Cadenza state, as this will exit the mode, and you would loose the damage buffs!
It is worth knowing that Astra can not move during the Idyllic Cadenza state, but you can dodge, use your Special Attack, or switch agents.
When Astra is in her Idyllic Cadenza state, she also takes less damage, and if you switch to another squad member, she will remain on the field but become invulnerable.
When you switch to another Agent during Astra's Idyllic Cadenza state through a Quick Assist, Chain Attack, Defensive Assist, or Evasive Assist, Astra will release Tremolo, deal damage, and increase both hers and the incoming agent's ATK. The buff is equal to a certain percentage of Astra's initial ATK, requiring you to focus on ATK % when building her.
Another speciality about Astra is the lack of EX Special Attack. She does not really have the usual EX Special Attack, and instead has a specific Chord mechanic. Every 25 energy gained gives Astra 1 Chord, and each chord during her Idyllic Cadenza state can trigger a Quick Assist. Again, if you switch to another Agent through that assist, Astra will deal damage.
To make it simple:
- Use Astra's Special attack, Chain attack or Ultimate to enter her Idyllic Cadenza State and buff the squad.
- Switch to other teammates.
- Trigger any assists to get Astra's Attack buff and her off-field attacks.
Astra Yao's Best Mindscapes
Astra Yao's M1 is quite good because it does provide with a few nice benefits, such as entering combat with 1000 Decibels, and decreasing All-Attribute RES. Her M2 is one of the best MIndscapes for her, and a very good stopping point. The ATK buff is further increased and she will be able to release additional attacks.
Astra's M6 is a significant boost to her DMG multiplier, and even grants her a massive 80% CRIT Rate.
