Why Patches? Wouldn't the bloodsail cultist be more synergistic?

Patches would have been great if it had deathrattle of either draw a pirate or put patches back in your deck .. Waiting for Pirate Warrior and Pirate rogue deck lists ..

I think it's essentially because it starts of the game with a fairly solid presence. If you look at most turn 1 minions, playing N'zoth's (for example), would mean 2 1/1s and a 1/3 weapon on Turn 1.

You can probably trade away nicely with their 1 drop and ensure you're ahead on tempo.

Is there a reason there are no removal cards in the deck, apart from a 5 drop 3 damage in Darkwing Corruptor?  Is the point to trade with weapons?  I'm thinking specifically of Execute, and using it against stronger taunt minions.

Yes, you trade with weapons, but you also have one Ravaging Ghoul. Aggro decks don't need to clear as much, as your opponent should be the one clearing the board. Look at the new pirate warrior - it has no AoEs and yet is considered to be currently the best aggro deck in standard.

If you feel underperforming without the Execute, your tech slots are both Arathi Weaponsmiths and the Ravaging Ghoul.

You can play a wide variety of options here, the most common being Blood To Ichor #1/2 - very good against any Aggro, but pretty much only when going seconds - or Arcanite Reaper for increased HOOOOO!!! potential. Execute slots in there as well. Ghoul I feel to be way too good atm to be dropped.

Any replacements for patches

You can try Ravaging Ghoul, but your early game against control decks will be much worse.

The first card since the initial annoucement for Knights of the Frozen Throne has been revealed by C4mlann earlier this morning.
Let's take a look at the first KotFT card officially revealed by C4mlann.

Blizzard kicks off the reveal with a card that seems unplayable in all currently popular decks, and subpar in arena. Although some players have suggested silence priest as a potential target, Ticking Abomination is actually detrimental to play without a form of silence in hand, unlike other popular silence targets. The caveat here is that since this is one the first card revealed, we don't actually know what's in store. Might there be a way to transfer Deathrattle effects to enemy minions? Will KotFT control decks play no minion before turn 5? One potential use for this one might lie in "forcing" your opponent to trigger your own Deathrattle effects with a high value card, but we'll have to wait and see. We might even see something that gives Deathrattle effects Lifesteal, the expansion's new mechanic, for some minion-based healing.
For more information, please check out our guide to the new Hearthstone expansion.

A new Tavern Brawl has been introduced this week by Ahune the Frost Lord himself.
In this Brawl, you will play as either Uther or Jaina. They both have premade decks and Uther is reportedly slightly better than Jaina, which is interesting since Mage usually dominates in Tavern Brawls.
      Here is Uther's deck:
Jaina uses a Reno deck, minus the Reno:
Both heroes are immune to damage and they cannot be healed nor keep armor. The only way to damage them is by killing the Ragnaros? minions. These are 1/4 minions and there is one of them at each side of the board. They cannot attack and upon death they deal 4 damage to the opponent of the current player. This means that you can kill both minions (the one on your side and the one on your opponent's side) and your opponent will take all the damage. Moreover, once a Ragnaros? dies, a new one will appear thus making it possible to kill multiple of them in one turn.

      Some tips you should know:
If the game reaches the fatigue stage, in the next round the enemy that has the least amount of health will automatically die and their opponent will be crowned as the winner. At the moment, Ice Block and Eye for an Eye seem to be bugged and they are not working as intended. This will be fixed soon. Bomb Squad and Ancient Curse deal no actual damage to you, so don't be afraid! This is the 110th Brawl and it's part of the Frost Festival. If you want to find out more about the Frost Festival, check our main article on it.

As Ragnaros' Midsummer Fire Festival has ended, it is time for Ahune the Frost Lord to take over with the Frost Festival!
As we explained in our previous post, this is a holiday that celebrates Arena mode. Once you log in the game, you will see that Ahune is giving you a free Arena ticket for this week. This will happen for the entire duration of the festival, so in total you will get three free Arena keys.
You will also get a free win each time you start an Arena run, whether it's from a free or a purchsed entrance key.
You will also get a quest to play three Arena games. This weekly quest awards you with a Knights of the Frozen Throne card pack. Once again, you will receive this quest next week and the week after that accounting for a total of three Knights of the Frozen Throne packs (assuming you complete the quests).

Feel free to check out our Arena guides and card rankings before you step into the Arena!
As far as the themed Tavern Brawl called Ahune's Superior Brawl is concerned, you can read more about it here.
The Frost Festival has created speculation for the next expansion. Since it will run for three weeks, it is going to end on August 9. The day after that, August 10, is thought by many to be the date that Knight of the Frozen Throne will be released.
