LoN Builds to Enjoy in Season 17 - Featuring Deadset

In case you missed it, here's part 2 with the rest of the classes.

* Updated article with Barbarian, Crusader and Demon Hunter  guide links.
We finally have the release date for one of, if not the most exciting season in Diablo 3 so far, and it's time to start getting hyped for this Friday! While one of the most interesting things about the new season is picking up random ancients along the way and stringing together some weird builds as you go, there's always some combinations that go really well together.

Personally I'll be trying to recreate my Cyclone-then-activate-every-available-passive-aoe-in-the-game "build", but we wanted to use these few days we have until the season starts to hear what builds you're looking forward to or planning, regardless of whether they will actually "work" or not. We also poked our own guide writer Deadset to see what he thinks some of the more fun and competitive Legacy of Nightmares builds might be. We're going to start slow, with just 3 builds this time around, with the rest coming later in the week.

Here are Deadset's build suggestions for Barbarians, Crusaders and Demon Hunters:

Quote

There's always that time in the pre-Season excitement and planning when you inevitably face the dreaded question: after looking up the Haedrig's Gifts, planing out the leveling, and getting some friends hyped... What am I actually going to play? Season 17, fittingly launching on the 17th, will be no different. You can always rely on the leveling guides, but what will you be excited to build? You can always lean on a Charge Barb, a Condemn Crusader, a Wave of Light Monk, and so on - you know, the staples! But what's the new stuff around Sanctuary?

THE ARREAT SUMMIT

Barbarians remain untouched in this patch, for better or worse. These venerable warriors are unshakeable from the group meta with the Support Barb, now even more desirable with the Ground Stomp variants. Raekor HotA and Charge Barb continue to dominate the leaderboards. The Legacy of Nightmares-themed S17 however, brings some extra oomph to older, quirky builds like the LoN Frenzy, and open up space for fun new variations like the LoN HotA Barb . The latter provides a welcome challenge for Barbarians wanting to devastate with relentless hammer attacks, but are tired of the endless charging of the Raekor staple.

THE TEACHINGS OF AKARAT

Crusaders received several targeted buffs for Season 17, all related to a signature build of the (not so distant) past. The 'Captain America'-like LoN Blessed Shield Crusader enjoys a stronger Akkhan's LeniencyAkkhan's Leniency bracer and JekangbordJekangbord shield, greatly improving the viability of the build. A fiery LoN Condemn variant is also lying in wait, provided you aren't tired of the holy explosions decimating waves upon waves of demons - but then again, that never gets old, does it?

THE DREADLANDS

Demon Hunters are also largely unchanged from their S16 state, with dominance of the Sentry Natalya and Marauder build practically unchallenged. Then again, the class received an unlikely buff to one of the most forgotten and maligned skills in their entire arsenal, and the Rapid Fire LoN Demon Hunter is now a legitimate build to pursue. With the upgraded Sin SeekersSin Seekers and Wojahnni AssaulterWojahnni Assaulter, my long standing wishes for a close range, spray-and-pray Demon Hunter build are finally coming together!

Look for the next installment of Deadset's build suggestions for S17 later in the week, and if you're looking for more in-depth guides on the above mentioned builds and in general for the season, they'll be dropping throughout this week, so stay tuned here and we'll have you ready for the Season of Nightmares. And don't forget to share your LoN plans with us in the comments as well!

Yup, D3 starting to feel fresh again, hopefully the D3 team will be as creative in the future too, at least till we get the next big thing 🙂

This will be the "play whatever you feel like" time diablo desperately needed. And they should take this in attention, for the upcoming games in this franchise ☝️

i don't know Monk  will how to play in SS 17 with Ina set? Very cool :DDDDDDD

Meta will probably remain unchanged for Monk and Barb, but you're also talking about group play at GR120+

Solo play, you can easily do a WoL LoN build.

@phantomxx9

For optimum build for S17 WoL LoN Monk, you should get "Swamp Land Waders" pants. In the 3 seasons I've played a solo Monk, Swamp Lan Waders never dropped for me, neither could I get them gambling with my Monk.  Easiest way to get swamp land waders is create a (lvl 1) WD, craft lvl 70 yellow pants, and reforge them to legendary with Cube, and/or, build a (lvl 70) WD and gamble for them at Kadala.

...anyway, it's explained well here, (if you Solo Monk): https://us.battle.net/forums/en/d3/topic/20751945171

I'll be using the cube method to get two pairs for my necro this season, one to reroll immediately to ancient for LoN buff, and then the second pair will be for rerolling for primal attempts.

I would also recommend using a Cindercoat in the WoL build, and then ORotZ/SoJ as your rings. CoE/Unity in the cube as needed/preferred.

The latest Challenge Rift features the Barbarian! In EU, we've got a Might of the Earth Barbarian with Bastions of Will and in US, we deal with a squishy LoN Barbarian.

Nerves of Steel Weapons Master Relentless This week's rift is somewhat difficult due to the squishy nature of the Barbarian. The spell also has some range to it, so don't forget to use it to kill trash and deplete your Fury before reaching elites. Here's another weekly clear by Raxx.

Nevalistis commented on the possible Season 17 end date on the D3 reddit, and it seems we're not getting any specifics beyond the 2 week warning. The latest season started on May 17th and has been going on for almost 2 months now, with the average season duration being 3 months, but 16 was a longer one, clocking in at 114 days - the 4th longest season ever.

Season 17 has been great so far, with it's LoN buff, so it could be extended like the Season of Grandeur was - here's hoping it is since I don't really see what new seasonal effect they can come up with that would match the Season of Nightmares.
      Season 17 End Date (source)
We'll provide a minimum of a 2-week warning before the Season ends, as we have in the past.
Because development delays have impacted Season end forecasting the last couple of Seasons, we're no longer providing an end of Season estimate beyond that.

The Barbarian class has seen better days, and with the latest season some of their major flaws were accentuated even more with the lack of solid LoN builds. Two Diablo 3 community members, Rage and Free, have taken it upon themselves to take a good look at the class and figure out what should be done to put it on at least a bit more equal footing with the other classes and to return some variety within the class itself.
Their efforts are concentrated on getting as much attention to their proposed changes, and after having looked said changes over ourselves, we decided to help them out by sharing them. For all the in-depth analysis and details, head on over to the aptly named barbarianbuffproposals.strikingly.com, while we take a look at the general idea here.

The main problems Free and Rage focus on are twofold:
Certain parts of sets and/or builds are simply not working, such as Rend in WotW or Avalanche in MoE. A lot of supporting legendaries are either outdated or just bad, and so a lot of BiS slots are taken by generic cross-class items, so LoN and primary skill builds are weak as a result. The solutions are manifold and very detailed, but are also separated into 3 categories, with the first being a simple (but also very detailed) fixes to the broken sets and skills, as well as buffs to the under-performing legendaries, while the second goes much deeper and suggests larger gameplay changes, such as set and item overhauls. The third category is somewhat separate and focuses on passive skill changes/buffs.
The actual solutions presented in these 3 categories are truly massive and detailed, so we'll just focus on category 1, aka the "simple" number increase only solutions, and direct you over to the barbarianbuffproposals site for all the rest:

As mentioned, this is just 1 of three proposed solutions and you should really check out the full page as it not only gives a great overview of where Barbarians are at the moment, but also some great solutions that go beyond simple number tweaks. In any case, big thanks to Free and Rage for keeping the Barbarian community alive and caring so much about the class and game in general.
