Criterion Dungeon Guide for Shadowcaster Zeless Gah

Welcome to our guide to Criterion Dungeons in Final Fantasy XIV. This page in particular outlines the mechanics for the boss encounter, Shadowcaster Zeless Gah on both Normal and Savage modes.

1.

Boss Encounter: Shadowcaster Zeless Gah

You have reached the end. One last boss stands between you and your spoils. Shadowcaster Zeless Gah. The main gimmic of this fight are portals which rotate by 90 degrees in any direction before activating.

There are a lot of different ways to solve these mechanics. These are the ones we personally found to be the easiest.

We recommend setting up your markers like so:

Zeless Gah starts the fight of by using Show of Strength, a hard hitting raid-wide AoE, which also places fire alongside the edges of the arena.

1.1.

Infern Brand 1

Use steps 1 through 3 of this raidplan for extra visuals for this mechanic.

Infern Brand is cast, placing four portals North and four South, each linked in pairs of two. Zeless Gah then activates the portals with Cryptic Portal. Take notice of how they rotate. Two safespots of roughly 1.5 floor tiles in size should appear, one North and one South.

Split up, have the melee and tank go North, and the healer go South with the ranged. Assign one person to the side safespots and one person to the adjusting safespots which are shown in steps 1 through 3 of the raidplan.

As the explosions go off, the boss will jump onto two random players. Cleaving in a large range around them. Anyone other than the targetted player caught in this cleave will be knocked into the wall, which applies a heavy hitting DoT. Therefore, it is key to be on your spread positions.

Lastly the boss will cast Blessed Beacon, a line AoE on each player that got targetted by the jumps. Have the players that did not get jumped on stand infront of them each to mitigate the damage.

The boss will use Firesteel Fracture, a cleaving tank buster, before transitioning into the next major mechanic.

1.2.

Infern Brand 2

The boss uses another Infern Brand, spawning mirrors which will shoot a lethal laser after a short duration and 2 sets of 4 lines. Each line has a number on them. At the same time, you are given a debuff with a number.

The goal of the mechanic is to clear the lines by walking into the ones with your corrosponding number, in order to move to the safe spots of the laser shooting mirrors. If you walk into a line that does not match your number you will get stunned. To solve this, look at either colour line.

Find your number and trace it to where it intersects with the line of the opposite colour that has your number as well. Then walk to the other corner where they crossed. Look for the mirrors on the side of the arena. If they spawned on the east/west sides, next to the blue lines, then clear the blue lines first. If they spawned on the North/South sides next to the red lines, then clear the red lines first. Clear the lines in ascending numerical order before walking to the safe-spot away from the laser mirrors. Dodge the incoming pizza slice AoEs by standing in the one that appeared last and moving into the first as it explodes. Now, as before, cleanse the left over lines in ascending numerical order, and rush to the last safe-spot. As you reach the last safe-spot, the boss will cast another Firesteel Fracture on the tank.

The boss will use another Show of Strength raid-wide before transitioning into the Infern Brand.

1.3.

Infern Brand 3

This is the mechanic where we had the markers set up for. The boss will place red lasers on each quarter East/West of the arena. Once activated you will not be able to walk through these. He also places four portals both North and South alongside two canes before applying portals to each player as well.

1.3.1.

Blue Portal

If you are given a blue portal:

  • Go to the blue markers South. Take notice of how your portal rotates and whether it will put you further North or South.
  • If your own portal would take you further South then stand on the arena portal rotating inwards.
  • If your own portal would take you further North then stand on where the inwards rotating arena portal would appear, teleporting you outwards once it turns.
1.3.2.

Red Portal

If you are given a red portal:

  • Go to the red portals North. Take notice of how your portal rotates and whether it will put you further North or South.
  • If your own portal would take you further north then stand on the arena portal rotating inwards.
  • If your own portal would take you further south then stand on where the inwards rotating arena portal would appear, teleporting you outwards once it turns.

Afterwards, walk onto the marker on your quarter of the arena and bait the cones fired from the canes. You will now get stunned and teleported from your own portal. Rush over to the marker on your new quarter of the arena and bait the second set of cane cones.

The boss will use another Firesteel Fracture at the end of the mechanic on the tank, signaling another transition into the next Infern Brand.

1.4.

Infern Brand 4

The boss will spawn three pairs of portals with a mirror on each. These portals will rotate again and displace the mirrors. The mirrors will only be moved, not rotated! This will create four safe floor tiles, in which you must spread as the boss will jump cleave onto two random players once more.

After the jumps and the laser mirrors, the boss will cleave at the two players he jumped on again. Have the players who did not get jumped on stand infront of them once more. Lastly the boss will use another Show of Strength raid-wide.

1.5.

Infern Brand 5

Assuming you have minimal deaths and/or damage downs, you have food running and have potted, you will be able to skip this mechanic in normal mode. Let's cover it anyway for savage.

The boss will spawn two sets of four lines again and four canes. Take notice of your debuff number and of which cane starts to spin with a blue light first. Have the numbers 3 and 4 bait the cones of the spinning cane to the side by standing directly next to it. Have the numbers 1 and 2 stand in the middle of the arena. Break the lasers in such a way that you can reach the exact opposite cane. Once you reach the opposite cane, have the numbers 1 and 2 bait it's cones to the side.

Stack up with your partner and wait for puddles to appear underneath you. Dodge these and prepare to dodge encroaching pizza slices like earlier in the fight. Break the remaining lines and bait the canes again. Numbers 3 and 4 bait the first cane, numbers 1 and 2 bait the second cane.

Congratulations, you have now beaten the Criterion Dungeon!
