Druid just received another Armor-themed card in K&C. Will this theme be strong enough to draw Druid players away from Jade?

Blizzard eSports Latin America has revealed a new Druid common from Kobolds and Catacombs. Like Druid's Spellstone, Ironbark Golem hints at an Armor theme for Druid in K&C:

If this card's textbox stopped at "Taunt" it would be phenomenal, but even with it's restriction on attacks it seems quite playable. Druid picked up quite a bit of Taunt synergy in the previous set with Strongshell Scavenger, which leads me to think that this card is a bit better than it looks on first glance. This card has some potential, but we'll need to see the rest of the spoilers to know if this card's attack clause will be easy to meet.

Do you think Ironbark Golem is playable on its own merits? Tell us what you think in the comment section, and check out our Kobolds and Catacombs hub for more information on the upcoming set.

cool concept, but maybe too situational to see actual play.

taunt is nice, but 3 armor is really hard to get in the early game...

Could be good. If your ramp goes well and you have it in hand, DK Malf makes the 3 armor min. easy to come by. Plus the Branching paths card can help get armor, not to mention the spellstone. I can see it finding a place in Ramp like decks. If nothing else it makes for a decent body on the board.

3 armor is really easy to get, Claw + hero power is 3 armor or just use Claw if you have 1 from before.

Also using Earthen Scales on this minion gives 4 armor for just 1 mana in the turn this can attack.

You shoulda compare this to Tar Creeper that usually is a 1/5 can't attack minions since it deals 1 damage instead of 3 passing the turn

This cost 1 more and is more likely to trade efficiently, even if doesn't attack has 6 health and taunt that is extremely high for 4 mana.

Not to mention the great synergy with Malfurion the Pestilent that allow this to attack every turn

Honestly druids have much more cards to gain armor than Warrior

Cards like Earthen Scales Ultimate Infestation give armor in huge amounts for free basically.

I've seen druids over 20 armor with almost no efforts.

Play The Lich King + double Earthen Scales = 10/10 taunt +19 armor laughing at Garrosh to make the same in 5 turns if he can playing horrible cards like Shield Block...

yeah he can with 4 mana and Bring It On! then lose the game for discounting 9 mana cards to the opponent...

First I thought it's crap. I'm not sure it will see very serious play but I like the design somehow. And you all missed the synergy between to armor up (even if it's just with your normal hero power) while having a taunt.

Even if they are not intentionally trying to armor up I often see a druid having some armor for several turns. It's a common so it may be at least worthwhile.

Btw I think enabling this thing to attack with Malfurion is not that great because you make your 3 attack minion attack but you could just attack yourself for 3 damage. But maybe you want to hit a minion and your don't want to take the damage yourself.

This should have an Elemental tag.

Class cards are supposed to be about ~.5 mana stronger than their counterparts. This is literally .5 mana stronger than Sen'jin Shieldmasta, a -BASIC NEUTRAL- card, and comes with a downside. What gives? Hello?

Hahaha how stupid, I haven't thought about Sen'jin. :D

Welcome to the clown and dust fiesta Mr. Ironbark Golem ;)

I think it might be played just because of the 4 mana 3/6 taunt thing it's got going, but other than that druid just doesn't get enough early game armor to justify playing it
