Cryo Traveler Guide & Best Builds

Welcome to our Cryo Traveler build guide for Genshin Impact. Cryo Traveler is the Cryo version of the Traveler. The Cryo Traveler becomes an on-field DPS when played in Stellar-Conduct Teams, and serves an off-field role in Stellar-Swirl Teams. In our guide, we'll cover everything you need to know to get the most out of your Cryo Traveler, from building the best Artifacts and Weapons to important stat priorities and rotations.

Different Cryo Traveler Build Options

Cryo Traveler has multiple options for how you can build them depending on whether they are used as an on-field DPS in Stellar-Conduct teams, or an off-field Burst DPS in Stellar-Swirl teams, which can change what’s best for their build.

Both playstyles are viable, and there is no single "best" way to build & play Cryo Traveler. A Main DPS Stellar-Conduct build can yield very high damage especially when paired with Stellar-Conduct supports such as Odette or Yae Miko, although such teams often fall behind Sandrone in terms of damage. Stellar-Swirl teams can also deal high damage when paired with Yumemizuki Mizuki, and can be very effective.

Best Weapons for Cryo Traveler

Listed below are Cryo Traveler's best weapons. While the weapons are listed in priority order, what's best to build on your Cryo Traveler can vary depending on the team composition and level of investment you want to put into Cryo Traveler.

Exaiphanes Blade

Traveler's Path

Base ATK: 608

CRIT Rate: 33.1%

When the Traveler equips this, their ATK will increase by 16% for 8s after they hit an opponent. At the same time, they will also regenerate 3 Elemental Energy. This effect can trigger once every 5s. This can be triggered even when the character is not on the field.

The Traveler's own exclusive 5-Star Sword, which can be obtained and refined for free. It provides a base ATK of 608 and increases CRIT Rate by 33%. At R1, it provides 16% ATK and 3 Energy every 5s. At R2 and higher, 6% CRIT DMG is granted for each Element the Traveler resonated with, for up to 42% CRIT DMG. At R5, the ATK increase goes up to 40% and restores 5 Energy every 5s. Exaiphanes Blade is the Traveler's best option, and with it being obtainable for free, other options are not recommended.

Exaiphanes Blade can be unlocked during the 7.0 Snezhnaya Archon Quest. Weapon Refinements are obtained by leveling up the Statue of The Seven in Snezhnaya. As of 7.0, up to R3 Exaiphanes Blade can be obtained. Further Refinements will be available in future patches.

Primordial Jade Cutter

Protector's Virtue

Base ATK: 542

CRIT Rate: 44.1%

HP increased by 20% / 25% / 30% / 35% / 40%. Additionally, provides an ATK Bonus based on 1.2% / 1.5% / 1.8% / 2.1% / 2.4% of the wielder's Max HP.

Other 5-Star weapons such as Primordial Jade Cutter or Whitelake Frostfeather can also be used, although they are not recommended as they deal less damage than Exaiphanes Blade.
Emberwell

Starfire Upon the Snowplains

Base ATK: 510

Elemental Mastery: 165

Triggering an Elemental Reaction increases the equipping character's ATK by 16% / 20% / 24% / 28% / 32% for 12s. Triggering a Stellar Glimmer reaction increases their Stellar Glimmer reaction DMG dealt by 16% / 20% / 24% / 28% / 32% for 12s. The aforementioned effects can trigger even when the character is not on the field.

The Snezhnaya craftable 4-Star Sword Emberwell can be used in Stellar Reaction teams, although it is not recommended when Exaiphanes Blade can deal more damage and is also obtainable for free.

Best Artifacts for Cryo Traveler

Disenchantment in Deep Shadow

Disenchantment in Deep Shadow

2-Piece Set: ATK +18%.

4-Piece Set: Increases Superconduct Reaction DMG by 80% and Stellar-Conduct Reaction DMG by 40%. When the wielder attacks opponents affected by Superconduct or Stellar-Conduct, this attack's CRIT Rate is increased by 16%.

Much like with other Stellar-Conduct DMG dealers, the 4-Piece Disenchantment in Deep Shadow is the best option for Cryo Traveler's damage output as an on-field DPS in Stellar-Conduct teams.
Disenchantment in Deep Shadow Gilded Dreams
2-Piece Artifact sets with ATK % and EM can be used as temporary options, although such options are usually around 11% behind Disenchantment in Deep Shadow in terms of damage output.

In Stellar-Swirl teams, Cryo Traveler is often one of the main damage contributors, often dealing around 30% of the team's damage second only to a main Stellar-Swirl DPS such as Yumemizuki Mizuki. The 4-Piece Scarlet Proof should theoretically be the best option to maximize Cryo Traveler's damage output in Stellar-Swirl teams, although currently Cryo characters are not able to activate the 4-piece set effect, rendering the set unusable. Instead, Cryo Traveler can use support sets to buff the team's total damage output.

Heart of the Furnace

Heart of the Furnace

2-Piece Set: ATK +18%.

4-Piece Set: Increases the equipping character's ATK by 12% for 12s when they trigger a Stellar Glimmer reaction or deal Stellar Glimmer reaction DMG. Also increases Stellar Glimmer reaction DMG dealt by all nearby party members by 50%. The above effects can trigger even when the equipping character is not on the field, and he DMG bonus from multiple Artifact Sets with the same name do not stack.

The upcoming Stellar Support set Heart of the Furnace can be a decent option to use on Cryo Traveler in Stellar-Swirl teams. This set grants a party-wide 50% Stellar DMG bonus after triggering a Stellar Reaction, while also providing bonus attack for the equipping character. Cryo Traveler may not be able to maintain a 100% uptime on the effect, but if no other party member are better equipped to use this set such as Odette, Cryo Traveler can use Heart of the Furnace.
Tenacity of the Millelith

Tenacity of the Millelith

2-Piece Set: HP +20%

4-Piece Set: When an Elemental Skill hits an opponent, the ATK of all nearby party members is increased by 20% and their Shield Strength is increased by 30% for 3s. This effect can be triggered once every 0.5s. This effect can still be triggered even when the character who is using this artifact set is not on the field.

If Odette is in the team, Cryo Traveler can instead use the Tenacity of the Millelith set to provide a party-wide 20% ATK buff, which can be maintained much more easily just by dealing off-field Elemental Skill damage through the Traveler's Elemental Skill Ice Fog Piercer.

Cryo Traveler's Stat Priority

Sands of Eon: ATK % > Elemental Mastery
Goblet of Eonothem: ATK % > Elemental Mastery
Circlet of Logos: CRIT DMG / CRIT Rate
Substats: CRIT Rate > CRIT DMG > ATK % >= Elemental Mastery > Energy Recharge

Stellar-Conduct DMG scales with ATK %, Elemental Mastery, and CRIT Rate/DMG. These are the main stats to prioritize on Cryo Traveler. In terms of main stats ATK % is usually slightly better for Stellar-Conduct DMG than EM, in addition to Cryo Traveler's passives scaling on ATK (Including ATK to EM conversion Lucent Ice). A single ATK main stat on either the Sands or Goblet is recommended. The second main stat can be either ATK % or EM depending on which piece has the better substats.

Cryo Traveler can provide a Stellar Reaction DMG bonus Stellar Jubilee: Illusory Frostmirror providing up to 7% Base DMG and Lucent Ice convert 8% of ATK for up to 160 EM. Both effects require 2,000 ATK which can be easily achieved.

Cryo Traveler's Elemental Burst Frostbound Javelin can deal a decent amount of Stellar-Conduct DMG and should be used every rotation. Cryo Traveler's burst only costs 60 Energy and they would often be paired with other Cryo characters, which brings down ER requirements.

Team Energy Required
2nd Cryo 120% - 140%
3rd Cryo 100% - 110%

Having party members on Favonius weapons can reduce ER requirements further.

When it comes to substats, CRIT is the best stat, followed by ATK % and closely followed by EM. It is worth mentioning that Cryo Traveler can gain 10% CRIT Rate through their passive talent Foreign Permafrost, and 15% through the Cryo resonance, on top of 16% CRIT Rate from the Disenchantment in Deep Shadow which makes overcapping on CRIT Rate possible with CRIT Rate weapons.

ATK / EM / CRIT DMG 154,306 97.38%
EM / EM / CRIT DMG 148,693 93.84%

This tables assumes an ATK / ATK / CRIT DMG build which can reduce the value of ATK % substat rolls slightly in comparison to EM.

+1 Substat Value % Increase
CRIT DMG / Rate +0.80%
ATK +0.54%
EM +0.31%
Sands of Eon: ATK % >= Elemental Mastery
Goblet of Eonothem: ATK % >= Elemental Mastery
Circlet of Logos: CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG
Substats: CRIT Rate > CRIT DMG > ATK % >= Elemental Mastery > Energy Recharge

Much like Stellar-Conduct, Stellar-Swirl DMG scales with ATK %, Elemental Mastery, and CRIT Rate/DMG. Vortex DMG scales much more heavily with Elemental Mastery, however that does not mean that Cryo Traveler scales better with EM, as direct Stellar-Swirl DMG and Cryo Traveler's passives scales with ATK % (Including ATK to EM conversion Lucent Ice). This results in ATK % still being slightly better, although the difference is much smaller than in Stellar-Conduct.

Cryo Traveler's Elemental Burst Frostbound Javelin can deal a decent amount of Stellar-Swirl DMG and should be used every rotation. Cryo Traveler's burst only costs 60 Energy and they would often be paired with other Cryo characters, which brings down ER requirements.

Recommended Stats for Cryo Traveler

Cryo Traveler recommendations assume a "decently built" level of artifact rolls alongside Cryo Traveler's best weapon. Using other weapons may increase or decrease certain stats relative to these recommendations.

HP: Any
ATK: 3,000+ (2 ATK % Main Stats)
EM: 200+
CRIT Rate: 80 - 100%
CRIT DMG: 200%+

Cryo Traveler's stats may appear inflated; this is because they receive additional stats from their passive Foreign Permafrost and the Exaiphanes Blade.

Cryo Traveler's Talent Priority

Talent Priority: Frostbound Javelin > Foreign Frostglint >> Ice Fog Piercer

While Cryo Traveler's Normal Attacks, Elemental Skill, and Elemental Burst are all used in combat, Cryo Traveler can only deal direct Stellar Damage through their Elemental Burst and Freezing Ice Charged Attack. This results in their Elemental Skill being not necessary to level as it is mostly used to apply Cryo. Cryo Traveler's Elemental Burst and Normal Attacks should both be leveled with their burst taking a slight priority.

How to Play Cryo Traveler

1.

Cryo Traveler's Kit

Cryo Traveler can be played either as a Main DPS in Stellar-Conduct or Sub DPS in Stellar-Swirl Teams. Cryo Traveler can enable either reactions through their passive Stellar Jubilee: Illusory Frostmirror while also granting a Base DMG bonus to either the Stellar-Conduct or Stellar-Swirl reaction, based on which reaction is triggered, being only 1 of 3 characters that can enable Stellar Reactions (with the other two being Sandrone and Odette).

Depending on which Stellar Reaction is triggered, Cryo Traveler's Elemental Skill Ice Fog Piercer can trigger different effects. By default, Cryo Traveler's Elemental Skill summons a Frostpierce Star for a 12-second duration. The Frostpierce Star fires an ice crystal once every 2s to deal off-field damage, and this behavior is unchanged in Stellar-Swirl. The short Skill duration can result in low uptime of artifact set effects such as Heart of the Furnace or Tenacity of the Millelith.

When the ice crystal hits an enemy, a stack of Frostglow is granted. Up to 8 stacks can be accumulated and are used to increase DMG dealt by the Cryo Traveler's Elemental Burst.

Cryo Traveler's Elemental Skill used in Stellar-Swirl.

In Stellar-Conduct, the Frostpierce Star summoned by the Elemental Skill Ice Fog Piercer does not fire an ice crystal every 2s, and instead launches coordinated attacks when the Traveler hits an enemy, requiring Cryo Traveler to be on-field in Stellar-Conduct teams to generate Frostglow stacks.

Stellar-Conduct essentially removes Cryo Traveler's off-field Cryo ability, which lowers their viability as a support in Stellar-Conduct teams, as their off-field stack generation is removed.

While the Frostpierce Star is active in Stellar-Conduct, Cryo Traveler's Normal Attacks Foreign Frostglint can deal Cryo DMG, with the damage further increased based on the Traveler's ATK.

2.

Traveler's Direct Stellar DMG

The Cryo Traveler's 2 main DMG sources are their Elemental Burst and Special Freezing Ice Charged Attack.

Frostbound Javelin can deal direct Stellar DMG, based on which reaction is triggered. The DMG dealt is increased through the Frostglow stacks generated by the Elemental Skill.

Frostglow stacks can also be generated by using the Special Charged Attack Charged Attack: Freezing Ice. This attack can be used once every 15s and can deal direct Stellar DMG based on which reaction is triggered, while also granting 2 stacks of Frostglow.

3.

Team Rotation

As Cryo Traveler's Burst and Charged Attack are the main sources of DMG, they will often be used after other party members have activated their buffs during the team rotation.

Odette E E > Sucrose N1 E Q > CMC E CA Q > Yumemizuki E

In Stellar-Swirl teams, the first rotation starts with the Cryo Traveler's Elemental Skill to activate Artifact set effects from the get-go. In this rotation, Odette's Skill was first used to activate her buffs followed by Sucrose. Cryo Traveler can use their Skill > Charged Attack > Burst in a quick sequence before going on-field with Yumemizuki Mizuki.

Yae Miko EEE > Escoffier E > Odette EE > CMC E N1-5 CA Q

After party members used their various skills, the Cryo Traveler can then utilize their Elemental Skill and used their normal attacks to deal Cryo DMG and generate frostglow stacks, followed by the Traveler's Charged Attack and Elemental Burst.

Cryo Traveler's Best Constellations

The Cryo Traveler's constellations offer incremental improvements in team damage, and are generally a meaningful addition to their kit, providing about the same increase in both Stellar-Conduct and Stellar-Swirl teams.

Constellation Improvement from Previous Total
C0 - 100%
C1 1.81% 101.81%
C2 0% 101.81%
C3 3.39% 105.20%
C4 0% 105.20%
C5 0.07% 105.27%
C6 9.01% 114.28%

Traveler's first constellation Somber Freeze allows them to regenerate 5 Energy every 0.5s when they deal Stellar DMG. This can restore 10 Energy to the Traveler through their Burst and Charged Attack, allowing them to get away with little to no Energy Recharge investment.

C2 Frostfall Reverberation increases the on-field character's Elemental Mastery when an ice crystal fired by the Frostpierce Star summoned by the Traveler's Elemental Skill hits an enemy. 60 EM will be granted, and 120 if Stellar Reactions are triggered.

C3 Glacial Shard increases the Traveler's Burst level by 3, improving their main source of damage, while C5 Bittercold Fog increases Elemental Skill level, which is a much less significant source of damage.

C4 Enduring Ice can make the Cryo Traveler a better holder of the Heart of the Furnace artifact set in Stellar-Swirl teams, as the 4-piece set effect can be maintained for a longer duration.

C6 Brumal Grimfrost provides party members with a Stellar Damage buff. After using the Traveler's Burst Frostbound Javelin, each stack of Frostglow consumed provides 5% Stellar DMG bonus for 15s, for up to 40% Stellar DMG to all party members.
