Pyrois Guide & Best Builds
Welcome to our Pyrois build guide for Zenless Zone Zero. Pyrois is a powerful S-Rank Ether DPS Agent who should be obtainable for free in Version 3.0. In our guide, we'll cover everything you need to know to get the most out of your Pyrois, from building the best Drive Discs and W-Engines to important stat priorities and combos.
Pyrois's Best W-Engines
Pyrois's signature W-Engine Sol Exuvia can be obtained for free, with a limited number of copies currently unlockable by exploring the Roscaelifer map and leveling up your Interboo level. Getting Sol Exuvia to P5 is possible in future patches as more content becomes accessible.
Sol Exuvia
CRIT Rate increases by 20%. When the equipper is Pyrois, using an Ultimate grants the Eclipse effect. When the Eclipse effect is active, DMG dealt by the equipper ignores 16/17.5/19/20.5/22% of Ether RES, lasting 45s. Repeated triggers reset the duration. When the equipper enters combat, they gain the Eclipse effect.
While not necessary to use, as Pyrois already has his general best in slot given for free, other S-Rank W-Engines, such as Riot Suppressor Mark VI, or stat sticks, such as Cordis Germina or Heartstring Nocturne, can be considered. They are sometimes close in performance to Sol Exuvia.
Best Drive Discs for Pyrois
Pyrois has two main Drive Disc options: The Sky Ablaze and Puffer Electro, where The Sky Ablaze is marginally better. The difference between both sets can be determined by sub-stat rolls; if you already have a decent Puffer Electro set, it is not necessary to farm for the new The Sky Ablaze.
The Sky Ablaze
4-Piece Set: When the equipper is an Ether attribute Agent, their CRIT DMG increases by 30%. When the equipper uses an EX Special Attack or Ultimate, their ATK increases by 10% for 30s. Repeated triggers reset the duration.
2-Piece Recommendations include:
- Puffer Electro - PEN
- Woodpecker Electro - 16% CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG
- Chaotic Metal - Ether DMG
- Astral Voice - Any 10% ATK
The difference between 2-Piece Drive Disc sets is marginal, and you should use whichever set you have better pieces on.
Puffer Electro
4-Piece Set: Ultimate DMG increases by 20%. Launching an Ultimate increases the equipper's ATK by 15% for 12s.
Pyrois's Stat Priority
Pyrois can be built as a typical Attack Agent, with a focus on building CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, as well as ATK and PEN.
It is worth noting that Pyrois has many sources of CRIT DMG from his kit and other sources such as:
- Faction Bonus - 40% CRIT DMG
- Ultimate: Total Annihilation - 40% CRIT DMG (21s)
- The Sky Ablaze - 30% CRIT DMG
During combat, or more precisely during the Stun window, Pyrois can be starting with up to 110% CRIT DMG, which can slightly shift Drive Disc stat focus into CRIT Rate. At the same time, you could also overcap on CRIT Rate in some teams. Sol Exuvia grants 20% CRIT Rate, which is only visible in combat. M1 also grants an additional 8% CRIT Rate, meaning that you should target 72% CRIT Rate on the stat screen.
For the 5th partition, PEN is usually the better option by a small margin, as Pyrois would typically be played with an Attack buffer. As such, he already gains 40% DMG Bonus from Ultimate: Triumphant Return, which remains for the entirety of combat during game modes such as Deadly Assault. This oversaturates stats such as ATK % and Ether DMG (especially with Dialyn providing a DMG % buff), and can make PEN Ratio more favorable.
In teams without an ATK buffer, an ATK % 5th partition can be a better option. Generally, you should use whichever piece has the better sub-stats.
Pyrois's Skill Priority
Pyrois's most important skills to level are their Core Skill, followed by Ultimate / Chain Attack, Basic Attack, and EX Special as they are the main sources of Pyrois's DMG and should all be leveled. Pyrois's Assist can also be leveled to increase the Daze Dealt by his Assist Follow-Up.
How to Play Pyrois
Pyrois is an Attack Agent who comes with a unique feature of having 4 different Ultimates. Alongside his EX Specials and Enhanced Basic Attacks, Pyrois utilizes their Ultimates to deal DMG and trigger the Totalize effect on Stunned enemies.
Pyrois's Resources
Pyrois's special resource is called the Solar Prominence. Pyrois starts with 30 points and has a maximum limit of 60 points. Solar Prominence can be gained through the following methods:
- 0.5 every second passively
- Certain amounts through Pyrois's various attacks
- 30 Points - Upper Branch Ultimate Ultimate: Total Annihilation
- 10 Points - Triggering a Block using EX Special (after activating buffs through Ultimate: Triumphant Return)
Pyrois's Enhanced Basic Attack
Solar Prominence allows Pyrois to use their Enhanced Basic Attack Basic Attack: Celestial Light which can be activated when you have over 30 Solar Prominence by holding the Basic Attack button. Pyrois's Enhanced Basic Attack deals up to 4 hits. Once Pyrois reaches the 3rd Attack, switching out to a different Agent will not stop the attack; instead, Pyrois will continue attacking. Utilizing this can save a bit of time during combat.
The first 2 hits of Pyrois's Enhanced Basic Attack deal a much smaller portion of the Attack's DMG. Pyrois can chain into the 3rd hit of his Enhanced Basic Attack if enough Solar Prominence points are available after using certain skills which are:
- Dodge Counter
- Quick Assist
- Assist Follow-Up
- EX Special
- Chain Attack
- All 4 Ultimates
On top of dealing decent DMG, Pyrois's EX Special EX Special Attack: Sun's Halo can also be used to block enemy attacks if Pyrois is attacked while using their EX Special. As a little bonus, after using Pyrois's EX Special or any Ultimate, they will automatically trigger an additional EX Special Special Attack: Assault Directive which deals bonus DMG.
Both Pyrois's Enhanced Basic Attack and EX Special contribute to a decent portion of their DMG and will be frequently used in and out of Stun.
Pyrois's 4 Ultimates
Pyrois has four different Ultimates they can use, with the option being brought up after pressing the Ultimate button. Pyrois is also the only Agent to require only 2,000 Decibels to use their Ultimate, making it slightly easier to use their different Ultimates frequently. The 4 Ultimates can be simply referred to by their branch as indicated in the above image.
The Lower Branch Ultimate Ultimate: Triumphant Return should be used as soon as combat starts, as it provides buffs that last the entire battle. These buffs are: 40% Increase to DMG dealt, 15 Energy Generation Rate, and allows EX Special blocks to grant Solar Prominence points. Energy Generation Rate is different from Energy Regen, as it affects all incoming sources of energy.
The Upper Branch Ultimate Ultimate: Total Annihilation deals a decent amount of DMG and grants 40% CRIT DMG against stunned enemies for 21s. This Ultimate would ideally be used at the beginning of the Stun Window to benefit from the CRIT DMG buff.
The Right Branch Ultimate Ultimate: Eternal Imprisonment deals the most DMG and triggers a special Totalize effect. This Ultimate's Totalize effect deals a fixed amount of DMG instead of scaling with remaining Stun duration, and immediately ends the Stun Window. As such, this Ultimate would ideally be used right at the end of the Stun Window to maximize the DMG Pyrois can deal while the enemy is still Stunned.
The Left Branch Ultimate: Unbound Swordstorm deals increased DMG to enemies under the Wind Attribute Anomaly and Contamination effects. This Ultimate would not typically be used, although it could have its uses if the Wind Attribute is involved in combat.
In addition to Pyrois's Ultimate, their Chain Attack can restore additional Decibels through Pyrois's Faction Bonus. In combat, and during the Stun Window, Chain attacks would often be forwarded to Pyrois to help restore Decibels for the next Ultimate.
Pyrois's Rotation
Putting it all together, Pyrois's basic rotation is straightforward. Just as the battle starts and as soon as possible, the Lower Branch Ultimate Ultimate: Triumphant Return should be used to gain the relevant buffs. Outside of Stun, the main focus would be to Stun the enemy through a Stun Agent and use Pyrois's EX Special and Enhanced Basic Attack.
As the enemy gets Stunned, in the scenario where Pyrois already has over 2,000 Decibels, you would first start with The Upper Branch Ultimate Ultimate: Triumphant Return to gain the 40% CRIT DMG buff while the enemy is stunned. If enough Solar Prominence points are available, you can directly follow up with Pyrois's Enhanced Basic Attack. Then a Chain Attack can be triggered by another Agent and forwarded to Pyrois to gain Decibels. Just before the Stun window ends, use the Right Branch Ultimate Ultimate: Eternal Imprisonment to end the Stun Window.
With Dialyn, performing three Ultimates during the Stun Window could be achievable quite often by utilizing the additional Ultimate just as the Stun window starts or in the middle of the Stun window. An example rotation could follow:
A similar rotation can be implemented without Dialyn, where 2 Ultimates can be activated:
EBA = Enhanced Basic Attack. These are general examples of how a rotation plays out; your amount of available Decibels, Solar Prominence Points, or the enemy's Stun duration can affect how the rotation goes.
Pyrois's Best Mindscapes
Pyrois's available Mindscapes serve as a great addition to their kit. Currently, only M1 and M2 can be obtained.
Mindscape 1 Shadows of Twilight Past grants Pyrois an additional 1,000 Decibels when starting combat. Alongside the base 1,000 starting Decibels, this Mindscape allows Pyrois to immediately use the Lower Branch Ultimate Ultimate: Triumphant Return to gain the relevant buffs. Additionally, Crit Rate is increased by 8%.
Mindscape 2 Blazing Cavalry increases Pyrois's Decibel limit to 4,000 and refunds 1,500 Decibels after using an Ultimate once every 180s. The increased Decibel limit makes managing Pyrois's Decibels easier, and the Decibels refund upon using an Ultimate can be used once in game modes such as Deadly Assault, essentially refunding the cost of the first Lower Branch Ultimate used.
