Albeleo and Prisoner Rescue Guide for Castrum Lacus Litore
The second encounter of CLL is split into three sections: Albeleo, Rescuing the Prisoners and Unlocking the Door. This guide will go over all three of these in order.
Albeleo
After entering the open area after the entrance corridor (and picking up your personal loot chest), Albeleo will arrive alongside multiple adds. Albeleo will be invulnerable to damage until all adds in the first wave are dead. As the encounter goes on, Albeleo will summon two more waves of adds. He will also go invulnerable again at 60% HP, and once more at 30% HP.
Some of the adds that Albeleo summons will have their own mechanics.
- Two Albeleo's Hrodvitnirs will be summoned when Albeleo is at 60% HP. These will cast Abyssal Cry, a powerful raidwide that must be interrupted. They must be killed before Albeleo can be damaged again.
- Four 4th Legion Colossi will be summoned in the third set of adds. These will cast Grand Sword, a massive telegraphed cone-shaped AoE.
- Two Albeleo's Monstrosities will also be summoned when Albeleo is at 30% HP. These will cast Baleful Gaze, a powerful gaze attack that must be looked away from in order to avoid it. They must be killed before Albeleo can be damaged again.
After Albeleo runs away upon reaching one HP, players will have roughly 25 seconds to prepare for the next stage of the encounter.
Rescuing the Prisoners
The area here is split into six different pathways, each with three rooms, a prisoner, and a mini-boss. These pathways are commonly referred to by their directions (West, East, North-West, North-East, South-West, South-East), and players should aim to split up roughly evenly between the pathways while waiting for them to be accessible. It is better to prioritise players in the upper pathways (NW, NE, SW, SE) as they are able to easily drop down into the lower pathways (W and E) after saving their prisoners, providing reinforcements. See the Tips and Tricks section for more information.
Once the barriers lower, players will have 2 minutes and 15 seconds to save all six prisoners before they are killed. Each prisoner is located in one of the six pathways, in a randomly selected one of the three rooms that changes each time the encounter is run. Players must defeat either three soldiers (upper pathways) or one Magitek add (lower pathways) before the doors to the three rooms can be unlocked. One will contain the prisoner, one will contain the mini-boss, and one will contain nothing. Players should ignore the mini-boss for now and focus on killing the soldier that is executing the prisoner.
Unlocking the Door
Once all prisoners are saved or time runs out, players should then focus on killing the six mini-bosses in order to progress the encounter, which will be located in a randomly selected room in each pathway. All have at least one or two mechanics that have likely been seen elsewhere in the game.
- 4th Legion Colossus Rubicatus (North-West): Uses Grand Sword, doing multiple cone-shaped AoEs in a row while spinning clockwise or counter-clockwise as indicated.
- 4th Legion Beastmaster and Tamed Garm (West): The Garm has the standard combination of Ram's Voice and Dragon's Voice that other Chimera-model enemies have. It also has Shock Spikes, which deals damage to players that attack the Garm while the buff is active.
- 4th Legion Prometheus (South-West): Uses Oil Shower or Needle Gun. After avoiding the telegraphed AoE, move into it to avoid the untelegraphed follow-up attack.
- Imperial Pyromancer and Blazing Familiar (North-East): The Familiar has High Heat, which puts the Pyretic debuff on players. If you are taking any action while this debuff is applied, including moving or auto-attacking, you will take damage for each action executed.
- 4th Legion Beastmaster and Tamed Panther (East): The Panther has Wide Blaster, a large cone-shaped AoE.
- 4th Legion Aquilifer and Learned Familiar (South-East): The Familiar has Curse of the Corporeal, which puts the Acceleration Bomb debuff on players. If you are taking any action when this debuff expires, including moving or auto-attacking, you will explode and take high damage.
Once a mini-boss has been defeated, a panel in the same room as the mini-boss will begin glowing. At least one player needs to step onto this panel for it to 'unlock', though players do not need to remain on the panel afterwards. Once all six panels have been unlocked, the door to the north will open and the 4th Legion Scorpion will arrive. It has no mechanics aside from a raidwide, so simply dps it down.
Tips and Tricks
- When splitting up the party for rescuing the prisoners, aim for a roughly equal distribution of players based on the number of people in the instance. For example, if you have the full 48, then you will want a full party of eight players to go down each path, while if you have 22 players, you will want to send four players each of the upper four paths, and three players to the two lower paths. The upper players can then drop down to help the lower players once they have saved their prisoners.
- Lost Actions such as Lost Swift and Lost Impetus are incredibly powerful in this section, as they allow players to move significantly faster and thus allow for more combat time during the section.
- All enemies in the rescue section are vulnerable to Instant Death abilities. These include Lost Death and Lost Assassination, and both can make clearing this section of the encounter significantly quicker if used.
- Players with gauges should build them up on the 4th Legion Scorpion in preparation for the next boss.
Rewards
Each prisoner that is successfully saved will add an additional personal treasure coffer alongside the guaranteed one after the next boss, up to a maximum of six additional coffers. Each one contains unique type of Forgotten Fragment that cannot be obtained in any other way. The fragments rewarded to players are based on the amount of prisoners saved, instead of which ones are saved specifically. For further information around Forgotten Fragments, please consult our Forgotten Fragment Farming Guide.
The next section is Airship Landing - Adrammelech.
