Dawon Guide for Castrum Lacus Litore

The final boss encounter of CLL is Dawon. Halfway through the fight, up to eight players will need to fight Lyon in a separate mini-boss encounter accessible from the north of the arena. This is skippable with extremely high dps.

The core mechanics of this boss are the feathers the boss summons that are affected by some other mechanics in the fight, and the Obey mechanic that forces players to memorise the order in which certain other mechanics will be executed. Feel free to mark a trustworthy player in order to be able to easily see where is safe to stand for these mechanics.

Boss Ability Quick-Guide

:
  • Molting Plumage: Summons orange and blue feathers. Orange is a point-blank AoE, while blue is a donut AoE.
  • Scratch: Tankbuster.
  • Fervid Pulse: Massive plus-shaped AoE. Always relative to the facing direction of the boss.
  • Swooping Frenzy: Boss jumps to a target location.
  • Frigid Pulse: Massive donut-shaped AoE.
  • Obey: Marks three (later, four) points around the arena with either a + or O marker. Plus denotes Fervid Pulse, while a ring denotes Frigid Pulse. The order these markers appear in denotes the order that the boss will jump to these positions (and executes the relevant mechanics) in. The symbols inside the markers will vanish once the castbar is complete. A maximum of two of each symbol can appear in any one cast of the mechanic.
  • Summon Birds: No castbar, summons four untargetable adds. Always used with Molting Plumage after the first cast. These adds will push the three or four feathers in their quadrant of the arena in the direction they are facing.
  • Pentagust: Five telegraphed cone-shaped AoEs.

Adds Phase Quick-Guide

  • Tamed Beetle: These adds will tether to the boss and make it invincible while present. They will also cast Defend on themselves to reduce damage taken.
  • Tamed Coeurl: These adds will use Crackle Hiss, a massive front-facing cone-shaped AoE, and Spike Flail, a large backward-facing cone-shaped AoE.
  • Tamed Manticore: These adds will use Ripper Claw, a late-telegraph front-facing cone-shaped AoE. They will also use Left Hammer and Right Hammer, massive telegraphed half-circle AoEs, one after the other.

Tips and Tricks

  • Obey is by far the hardest mechanic of the fight, and the plus-shaped AoE can easily one-shot non-tank players as it will hit players twice if they stand inside the boss' hitbox. Remembering the order of the icons shown during the castbar, and only moving in for the O markers, is one of many ways to break down the mechanic.
  • Every cast of Molting Plumage past the first will have four untargetable bird adds. Look at the quadrant of the arena that will be pushes towards the one you are currently in, and find either a blue feather or a gap where there are no feathers present. Either of these will be the safe spot for your quadrant during the mechanic.
  • During adds, the boss will cast a mix of Scratch, Swooping Frenzy, Pentagust, and Fervid Pulse. This phase is very chaotic, so focus on dodging AoEs and staying alive while the Lyon party does their job, as all adds will vanish soon after the miniboss is defeated.
  • The large AoEs from Coeurls and Manticores during adds are able to hit the Lyon party on the upper platform, so ensure that adds are kept away from the northern side of the main arena.
  • If there are eight or less players in the instance, Lyon will require that all but one player move to his arena in order to face him. If players do not do this manually, he will randomly pull players from the Dawon arena after a short delay until only one remains. If all players in either arena die during adds phase, both bosses will immediately enrage and force a party wipe. In order to maximise safety, ensure that a self-sufficient tank is the one left to handle Dawon and the adds.
  • Once the adds phase has been completed, players will gain the Warmonger buff for three minutes, increasing their damage dealt while reducing their damage taken.
