Saviors of Uldum Card Reveal: Hunter's Pack

Recommended Posts

Hunter's latest addition in Saviors of Uldum has been shared by Russian Youtuber Yaspers Game.

A new card has been revealed by the Russian Youtuber Yaspers Game: Hunter's Pack!

Hunter's Pack

It's a 3-Mana spell that generates three Hunter class cards, which seems like a pretty good rate. It's a good fit in Zul'jin decks, although often Zul'jin will fill your hand anyway thanks to Master's Call and other card draw and generation spells.

It seems like a peculiar card to print considering that "card generation" was recently identified as one of the Hunter class's intended limitations in a Developer Insights blog post. Perhaps it's intended to support Hunter's identity in Saviors of Uldum by being a strong addition to singleton decks built around Dinotamer Brann?

Watch the full Russian reveal video below:

Check out our Saviors of Uldum hub for more info on the new expansion and all the cards revealed so far.

I like it, if nothing else because it is refreshing and should be fun to play. I'm just a bit afraid of the tempo loss at the turn you play it - and we know tempo is often critical to Hunter. So it may not be a card you want to play at turn 3, better keep it to refill your hand later.

It is worth noting that there are only 3 Hunter weapons in Standard at the moment, one of them (Headhunter's Hatchet) has Beast synergy while another (Eaglehorn Bow) has Secret synergy. So you have a good chance to get synergy from your cards even if they are random (pending confirmation that there will be no new Hunter Weapon in Saviors of Uldum).

Random secrets may seem poor at first but in practice I find them annoying to play against because, unlike regular secrets, you can't assume that your opponent played that specific secret for a reason.

As for the Beast, it is not just any Beast, but a Hunter Beast, which drastically restricts the options, avoiding some weak neutral picks as well as Beasts from other classes which hardly synergize with Hunter. There are only 11 such cards in Standard at the moment, plus 2 which have already been announced for the upcoming expansion - there could be a few more to come though. Most of them are pretty good, especially in a Beast-oriented deck. Except for Starving Buzzard, I think they are all seeing play, and getting an extra Scavenging Hyena, Savannah Highmane or King Krush can't be bad really.

Agreed. However this is a limitation, not a weakness, and also probably the reason why the cards you receive are random, much like with Cybertech Chip and more recently Shimmerfly. I think it's more about the ability of the Hunter to do the best they can with the resources at their disposal than about keeping your hand full of cards you decided to have.

Agree, it looks like a powerful card to me! 3 Mana for three random class cards is a pretty crazy deal if you compare it to something like Cabalist's Tome (a card which actually saw some competitive play).

I do find it curious in light of that class identity article, but you're right - random cards can vary a lot in quality.

Class identity is just a blizzard delusion... hunter a traditional class with topdeck issues is now the class with most card generation tools to the point you can run Control Hunter instead of face hunter...

meanwhile priest identity is still losing games
