Holy Paladin Healing Guide — The War Within (11.2.7)

While not consistently providing the highest HPS output, Holy Paladins have been a staple of raiding for over a decade. Devotion Aura is an extremely powerful buff and raid comps tend to gain this through bringing a Holy Paladin. Aura Mastery also allows them to offer a decent amount of damage reduction to the raid during difficult moments. Holy Paladin also has fantastic utility and extremely strong single-target healing to help make up for the fact they lack AoE healing compared to other healers.

Throughout the history of Mythic+, Holy Paladin has consistently been a strong choice in Mythic+. Out of every healer, their damage can often be the easiest to get out since most of it comes in the form of Consecration which just requires maintaining it, and other forms of damage such as Judgment are used rotationally for healing. This allows players of any skill level to output solid damage that often surpasses what other classes can provide. Additionally, Holy Paladin has very powerful utility that other healers cannot match.

Holy Paladin offers some of the best utility in the game. Blessing of Freedom, Blessing of Protection, and Divine Shield are incredibly powerful in every form of content. Freedom will allow you to remove roots and slows, which can make difficult mechanics entirely trivial. Protection can help you to negate aggro problems on dangerous pulls, while also removing physical damage and bleeds. This can be the difference maker between someone living or dying, while also allowing them to immune certain mechanics. Finally, Divine Shield or "Bubble" will allow you to completely ignore mechanics, allowing you to focus on keeping players alive, or simply getting out of a tough spot.

Holy Paladin has three strong defensive cooldowns: Divine Protection, Divine Shield and Blessing of Protection. Divine Protection has an incredibly short cooldown, meaning that you can consistently have it active during dangerous moments. Divine Shield is a get out of jail free card, allowing you to completely immune damage and mechanics - something no other healer has. Finally, Blessing of Protection can serve as a similar immunity, but only for Physical damage and bleed effects. When facing tough physical damage, it can be used to negate the effects entirely, just always remember that it will not work on magic effects!

The biggest weakness of Holy Paladin comes in the form of mobility. While Divine Steed has a fairly short cooldown and multiple uses, the class still suffers compared to other specs. Being mispositioned or reacting slowly to a mechanic can be lethal for yourself and your group. Evokers can always Hover out of mechanics and reposition, Druids and Shamans have Cat Form and Ghost Wolf to help, while Paladins are quite limited when Divine Steed is on cooldown.
