Discipline Priest Phase 5 Best in Slot List

This is a list of gear that is considered to be the best in each slot. The list below is following the stat priority of Haste Rating until soft cap > Spell Power > Crit > Haste > Intellect > Spirit > MP5. Please remember that stat weights are always dynamic and this stat order is more of a rough guideline not a reflection of reality. You can see an explanation for this priority on our stats page for Discipline Priest below.

If you are starting out as a freshly-leveled Discipline Priest, our pre-raid best in slot list is meant to give you an idea of non-raid items you can chase as a solo / pug player in preparation for Raids.

Phase 5 / Tier 10 Best in Slot

The items in the list below are considered to be best in slot for Discipline Priests in Phase 5 / Tier 10. Many of the items in this list will drop from rather difficult bosses of Icecrown Citadel and Ruby Sanctum 25-man. The power gap between these items and their alternatives is rather big, which is why they are extremely sought-after by casters in your raid.

Your best-in-slot weapon is up for debate. Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings Icon Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings should remain the best weapon available for you, barely beating out the new Royal Scepter of Terenas II Icon Royal Scepter of Terenas II. A good rule-of-thumb is: if you already have Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings Icon Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings, or are close to finishing it, use it as your BiS; if not, try to get a Royal Scepter of Terenas II Icon Royal Scepter of Terenas II.

Before you can purchase the 277 item level gear-set, you must first purchase the 251 version first with Emblem of Frost Icon Emblem of Frost. Below is the recommended order of purchase for items with your limited-available emblems. Be mindful that you may want to change which piece you purchase first depending on your current gear setup.

  2. Crimson Acolyte Raiments Icon Crimson Acolyte Raiments — 95 x Emblem of Frost Icon Emblem of Frost

Phase 4 / Tier 10 Best in Slot

The items in the list below are considered to be best in slot for Discipline Priests in Phase 4 / Tier 10. Many of the items in this list will drop from rather difficult bosses of Icecrown Citadel 25-man. The power gap between these items and their alternatives is rather big, which is why they are extremely sought-after by casters in your raid. This combination of rather difficult encounters and the popularity of these items, will make it unlikely for you to obtain the Best in Slot gear before the end of Phase 4.

Alliance Phase 3 / Tier 9 Discipline Priest Best in Slot

The items in the list below are considered to be best in slot for Discipline Priests in Phase 3 / Tier 9. This list is still preliminary and subject to change. Most of the items in this list will drop from Heroic difficulty in Trial of the Crusader 25-man and some from Ulduar 10/25-man Hardmodes (HM). This list contains full best in slot, which will be unrealistic to acquire for most players as healers typically receive very low priority on gear upgrades. For a more realistic gear set, check out the "P3 Alliance Realistic BiS" tab above.

The power gap between these items and their alternatives is rather big, making them extremely sought-after by other caster classes in your raid; this goes especially for the Heroic gear (item level 258). In addition to that, per lockout there can only be a maximum of 4 hardmode tokens, which are again randomly rolled between classes. The T9-set will have a 232, a 245 and a 258 item level version, it is recommended to stick with the 245 item level version of it until you get the tokens for 258 item level. For more information, check out our Tier 9 Sets and Hardmode.

The items on the following list for Tier 8 come from WotLK Ulduar. The Tier 8 armor is sold by Paldesse in Dalaran for tokens from Ulduar. The abbreviation HM refers to the Hardmode of an encounter. Alliance Phase 3 / Tier 9 Discipline Priest Realistic Best in Slot

The items in the list below are considered to be a more realistic best in slot list for Discipline Priests in Phase 3 / Tier 9, focusing more on gear that is less contested or can be obtained much easier. For a full best in slot gear list, check out the "P3 Alliance BiS" tab above. This list is still preliminary and subject to change. For more information about the different tier sets and to see why they are so hard to obtain, check out our Tier 9 Sets and Hardmode Chest Guide.

As it is very unlikely for healing Priests to get Regalia of the Grand Conqueror Icon Regalia of the Grand Conqueror for item level 258 Tier 9 set gear, you will probably be using either the item level 245 Tier 9 gear set, or the Tier 8 gear set. Tier 8 offers higher raw healing output through the 4-set spellpower, while Tier 9 offers higher Health, Mana, Crit and Mana Regeneration. Which set you use will depend on your boss kill times and mana issues.
