Hearthstone Patch 14.6: HoF Rotations, New Classic & Basic Cards

Recommended Posts

Patch 14.6 rolled out for Hearthstone today, adding 10 new Classic cards and many other changes.

It's not just the Dalaran Heist that received an update today - Patch 14.6 has just rolled out and it's a comprehensive update in advance of the release of Saviors of Uldum on August 6th.

The Hall of Fame rotations and new Classic and Basic cards announced last week have been implemented into the game. If you were about to queue a game of Zalae's Burn Priest, better hold off - you'll find that Radiance does considerably less damage than Mind Blast.

There have also been some unexpected updates to the art, and in some cases names, of existing cards:

In a welcome Quality of Life change, Tavern Brawl will now be available all week, with only an hour of downtime! New Tavern Brawls will begin at 9:00 AM PDT on Wednesday and end the following Wednesday at 8:00 AM PDT.

Some cards have also received functionality updates:

  • Pilfer will now read "Add a random card from another class to your hand". This change makes Burgle synergy cards like Vendetta easier to activate in Rogue mirror matches. The design team said when Hench-Clan Burglar was revealed that they plan to design most Burgle synergy cards this way in the future.
  • Dark Bargain, Cleave, Multi-Shot and Forked Lightning will now be playable even if there is only a single minion on the board.

The patch also includes a huge host of improvements and bug fixes, as well as the Dalaran Heist balance update we reported earlier today.

  • Thanks 1

Hoo boy! That's welcome news indeed!

These all seem to be related to either nudity or blood. I presume Hearthstone had a PEGI check and did not pass it?

It makes sense from a playability perspective. However I'll miss that nice feeling of hitting the opponent with their own cards.

Very welcome change, that will make these cards more flexible. Many times I received these cards during the game (from Shimmerfly or Firetree Witchdoctor for example) and had a hard time playing them because of the restriction of use.

I guess some social justice warrior cried "sexism".

They should just use a huge blob in different colors and get rid of everything that has anything to do with gender. No male, female, nothing.

They just need to be careful that a pink blob isn't a worse card then a blue blob, because the SJW would be outraged again...

There was absolutely nothing SJW related with the art changes, it's 100% "Chinese censor approval".   No lady skin showing, no blood, etc.    Same reason Diablo Immortal just has skeletons, ghosts and so on that don't bleed, as ridiculous as a bloodless diablo game is.

Honestly a disturbing trend that Blizzard is willing to capitulate so easily to earn more money.

Usually I'm the first to spit on such practises, but the Chinese market is just too big for any developer to simply pass up these days. And doing independent servers for China like they did for WoW is sadly enough not an option for Hearthstone.

Putting the blame on game developers is pointless. At the core of the problem, it's the asiatic world in general that needs to chill the *filtered* out with their absolutely nonsensical censorship laws.

If this is the reason then it would have been easy enough to add alternative art to the Asia server and hand it out to Chinese players. On the other hand, I can understand that Blizzard prefers to keep things simple - that has always been one of their strengths.

That being said, the game is rated PEGI 7. This means only implicit, non-detailed and non-realistic violence, and no nudity. In that sense, the previous art was not appropriate and was understandably changed - the only question would then be why it took them so long? Some of these cards have been around for years. The only alternative would be to change the game to at least PEGI 12, maybe even PEGI 16, I'm not sure. Definitely not a good move from Blizzard if they want to keep a large player base.

Also, while my first reaction as an adult player was that the original art was just fine, on second thought, as a father I am happy that my kids can play video games without coming to the conclusion that women are only interesting is they are naked and that hitting someone so hard that blood quirts everywhere is fun. In the end I only regret that Blizzard doesn't call a spade a spade. They have changed the art for a reason, and calling that "unexpected updates to the art" is just ridiculous.

Chinese streamer YiLingShu has revealed a new Rogue card from Saviors of Uldum on the streaming platform Douyu.

Chinese streamer YiLingShu has revealed a new Rogue card from Saviors of Uldum on the streaming platform Douyu: Bazaar Mugger.

It's a fine addition to Rogue's kit of Burgle-themed cards. The "from another class" text is in keeping with the new design philosophy for the mechanic which enables cards like Vendetta to be active in Rogue mirror matches. Older cards such as Blink Fox and Burgle itself tend to say "from your opponent's class". Pilfer, a Classic set card, was changed in Patch 9.14 to reflect the commitment to the new direction.

Hunter's latest additions are two massive creepy-crawlies with powerful effects.

Two new Saviors of Uldum cards have been revealed via the PlayHearthstone Instagram story. This time, it's a pair of massive creepy-crawlies for Hunter: Wild Bloodstinger and Scarlet Webweaver.

Wild Bloodstinger is slightly over-statted as a 6 Mana 6/9, but it will have to do battle with a Minion from your opponent's hand before you get to use those stats. This kind of effect has been seen occasionally before in Hearthstone: Dirty Rat was a much-loved (and much-hated) combo disruption card that denied many a Raza the Chained before they rotated to Wild together. Unseen Saboteur is a similar option in the current Standard card pool, but can be wildly inconsistent.
Scarlet Webweaver is pretty much a Dreampetal Florist for Beasts. You could play King Krush for 4 Mana and do some big damage. You could also play Tundra Rhino for 0 Mana and do some big damage. The possibilities are endless.
Taken together, these cards suggest Hunter might be playing with some bigger beasts than usual in Saviors of Uldum. This could be a nice change of pace after six months of messing around with Springpaw and various other 1/1s.

A new Druid Spell has been revealed on Firebat's Youtube channel - and it looks to have a lot of untapped potential.

Firebat has shared his exclusive Saviors of Uldum card reveal on Youtube: Hidden Oasis!

The card has huge synergy with the new Druid quest, Untapped Potential, and makes it look potentially very strong - the card can be played on turn 6 with both of its Choose One effects combined every time if you're willing to be patient.

That's all of today's scheduled card reveals - the next one is slated for Sunday at 6.00 AM BST, although it's always possible that we get some surprise reveals in the interim. See you then!

The Legendary Quest card for Paladin in Saviors of Uldum has been revealed by Spanish Youtuber Atlas (alongside an adorable 1-drop that will help you complete it).

The Legendary Quest card for Paladin in Saviors of Uldum has been revealed by Spanish Youtuber Atlas (alongside an adorable 1-drop that will help you complete it).
It's all about playing minions with Reborn, the new expansion keyword. Reborn Minions come back with 1 Health the first time they die, making them especially tough to get rid of (and great to copy with Emperor Wraps, the Quest reward.)
Alongside Making Mummies we also got Murmy, a new 1 Mana 1/1 Murloc with Reborn.

Seems like Paladin's identity in Saviors of Uldum is beginning to take shape: it's playing a lot of dudes with 1 Health, whether drawing them with Salhet's Pride, generating them with Sandwasp Queen, or resurrecting them with the Reborn keyword.
Murmy has actually been teased already during a Reddit developer AMA. Asked if there were any cute cards forthcoming in Saviors of Uldum, designer Alec Dawson said:
      Alec Dawson (/u/HS_Alec)
There are definitely a few in this expansion, especially if you like mummies! So there you have it. Murmy. Cute. In an undead, fish monster sort of way.
(Also quite probably a terror in Murloc Shaman.)

      It's a new 2 Mana 2/1 Rare for Warlock. Here's Expired Merchant:

This kind of targeted discard effect has been seen before on Shriek and Reckless Diretroll - it's a nice way of mitigating the randomness of the discard mechanic. In this case it can be used to duplicate one of your power cards. That could mean an extra copy of Mountain Giant, endless chains of Soulwardens and more.
Pour one out for the Wild players though - one Bloodreaver Gul'dan was bad enough.
