Eye of the Jailer Mechanic Within the Maw in Shadowlands

Recommended Posts

d4wn5i4.jpg

Eye of the Jailer Eye of the Jailer is a debuff that will be placed on players while they are in the Maw for extended periods of time, and you will need to clear the debuffs by participating in content outside of the Maw in the new expansion.

In the Paul Kubit interview, we learned that players won't be able to endlessly farm Torghast and be inside the Maw, due to debuffs that need to be cleared by participating in other Shadowlands content. In the spells database, we found multiple spells that add points toward clearing the debuffs (Eye of the Jailer: Add Points Eye of the Jailer: Add Points).

It seems there will be multiple tiers of the effects, so maybe they will grow in power with time while you remain within the Maw.

The Maw Debuffs

The following debuffs will be active while you are in the Maw for extended periods of time, acting as some sort of gating for Torghast, because you will be farming keys in the endgame zone to enter the Tower.

Sooo like corruption 2.0? Or maybe sanity 2.0... either way a limit on doing the tower stuff, yay...

Yeah, it's like Corruption debuffs used for zones. I'm not a big fan of these gating mechanics either, I think it's perfectly fine if there are players who want to spam the Tower 100% of the time, they should imo let that happen and let everyone enjoy the game as they want.

This is not even for the tower but the open world part of the maw as far as i know. Also they are not limiting the tower ppl will cry they have to farm endlessly like any similar feature.

The Tower will have a key system, and you will be able to buy these keys with the Maw currency, so limiting people from spending time in the Maw with the debuffs results in fewer Tower runs.

Exactly...I keep pointing it out, but I'll repeat; The best, most successful system Blizzard ever added to WoW since vanilla was the Mythic+ system.    It has no real barriers on entry (you can earn your own key or just queue and join for someone else's), is spammable, is something that with skill and effort can be used to get high ilevel gear, and has no grinding sub-system required.

They really need to step back and realize that creating sub-grinds and other gating on "fun" stuff makes the fun stuff less appealing.

A calm week in Mythic+, where we see Windwalker move up in its weakest bracket and Fire actually see a drop anywhere, while Subtlety has a very good week and might be ready to dethrone the eternal blue king.
Note: The logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
This past week was Tyrannical, Bolstering, Explosive (and Tormented).
      All Keys
Windwalkers return to the top 3, correcting their drop from last week while Subtlety actually comes much closer to Fire's eternal throne. Arcane rises two into the top 5, pushing Affliction and Balance down, as Shadow sees the biggest movement in the high percentiles, jumping 4 into 8th. Marksmanship drops one and Havoc gets in-between the Warriors in the middle of the pack , as the bottom 5 remain the same, with Retribution dropping to dead last.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
The all percentages bracket is starting to look more like the 95th, as Subtlety takes 2nd place here as well, but Affliction is still doing a lot better and keeps its 3rd place at least. Arcane is doing even better here compared to last week, jumping 4 into 6th, while Fury dropped 3 spots seeing Havoc, Unholy and Survival pass it in the middle of the pack.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      High Keys
Fire hasn't managed to take over the +15s quite yet and the standings remain the same in the top 5, but 6th sees a big change as Havoc moves there, rising 2 spots. Survival and Assassination are the next to rise, 3 and 4 spots respectively, as Fury drops 3. All the specs are incredibly close in the 15s still, so even the bottom of the pack is doing really well here.

Mythic+15 All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
Windwalker retains its No.1 spot in the 20ies and Fire actually drops a space, as Subtletly had a really good week across all keys it seems. Arms and Arcane both moved up, with the Warrior spec surpassing the Mage along the way. Havoc jumped 3 spots and almost made it to the top 5, while Assassination was the biggest mover, rising a whole 7 spots into 8th!
Mythic+20 All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides or our extensive Mythic+ guides as well, which have tier lists, dungeon rankings and more.
