Season of Discovery Enhancement Shaman Tank Rotation, Cooldowns, and Abilities

On this page, you will learn how to optimize the rotation of your Enhancement Shaman Tank, depending on the type of damage you will be tanking in WoW Classic - Season of Discovery. We also have advanced sections about cooldowns, procs, etc in order to minmax your survivability and DPS.

1.

Overview

We will present the skill rotation of an Enhancement Tank as a priority list. This is not an exact sequence in which abilities should be cast. Instead, what it means is, whenever you must choose between using different skills, try to use the one at the top of the list first.

While they are extraordinarily powerful, explosives such as Heavy Dynamite Icon Heavy Dynamite will not be detailed in the rotation. Usually, you will want to use on the pull as a tank to generate snap aggro.

The main exception is when you are facing multiple or particularly dangerous (such as enraged) enemies at some point in the fight. Saving explosives to carry you and your group through these moments (and possibly do a ton of AoE damage in the process) is probably worth it.

Because of how Way of Earth Icon Way of Earth works, you will be forced to have Rockbiter Weapon Icon Rockbiter Weapon enchanted on your weapon at all times in order to be a proper Shaman Tank.

1.1.

Single-Target Rotation

  1. Keep your group-buffing Totems and Searing Totem Icon Searing Totem active and in range of their respective targets at all times;
  2. Keep Lightning Shield Icon Lightning Shield active;
  3. Use Stormstrike Icon Stormstrike often enough to ensure 100% uptime on Mental Dexterity Icon Mental Dexterity;
  4. Cast Lava Burst Icon Lava Burst on cooldown, ideally you will have near to 5 Maelstrom Weapon Icon Maelstrom Weapon stacks each time you can cast it, allowing you to rarely take a melee swing while casting;
  5. Keep Flame Shock Icon Flame Shock active on your target for extra damage;
  6. Earth Shock Icon Earth Shock on cooldown to deal more damage and threat;
  7. Cast Molten Blast Icon Molten Blast (if runed) for extra threat generation;
  8. Frost Shock Icon Frost Shock if Flame Shock Icon Flame Shock is already on all possible targets.
1.2.

Multi-Target Rotation

The rotation for multiple target tanking is mostly the same but you will want to prioritize area damage abilities such as Molten Blast Icon Molten Blast much more as it can hit multiple targets per cast, and also keeping Flame Shock Icon Flame Shock rolling on as many targets as possible.

You should also use Chain Lightning Icon Chain Lightning with Maelstrom Weapon Icon Maelstrom Weapon and drop the Lava Burst Icon Lava Burst rune. Magma Totem Icon Magma Totem can also be used for maximum area damage, if Mana is not a concern. Remember to move it with Totemic Projection Icon Totemic Projection as needed!

Mastering Your Shaman

In this section, we will dive deeper into the core mechanics and various abilities of Shaman tanks. Understanding these topics is an important step to truly mastering the specialization. Expect this section to expand as we get more situational tools in future phases!

2.1.

Advanced Totem Usage

Tremor Totem Icon Tremor Totem and Poison Cleansing Totem Icon Poison Cleansing Totem should be dropped when slightly less than 5 seconds remains until the Fear or Poison application. As they remove effects every 5 seconds, this will ensure that these harmful effects are removed as soon they are applied, which is of particular importance for Fears, so that allies do not have time to run out of the Totem's radius.
