Gearing your Assassination Rogue in Season 4
With the start of Season 4, Amirdrassil, Vault of the Incarnates and Aberrus is opening up its gates, and you are once again able to acquire gear from the Raid. Mythic+ is also starting, same as the new PvP season, and this serves as a soft-reset for most of the gear you acquired during the last Season of Dragonflight.
Season 4 once again uses the Crest upgrade system that was introduced in Dragonflight. We recommend that you check out our dedicated page for more information on this gear upgrade system if you are not yet familiar with it:
Best Gear To Spend Bullions On For Assassination Rogue in Season 4
Season 4 offers a way to target specific items from each of the three Awakened Raids, with the new Antique Bronze Bullion. We have compiled a list of high-value items that you should prioritize with your Bullions in Dragonflight Season 4 as an Assassination Rogue. This list is not in order of priority, it is not exhaustive, and you will likely have to make choices depending on the gear you already acquired by the time you gain your Bullions. If you end up acquiring more Bullions while already having picked each of the mentioned choices here, feel free to pick any of the items from the BiS list below that you may not yet have gotten.
- Cruel Dreamcarver - Our best Mainhand weapon. High priority.
- Ashes of the Embersoul - Our strongest on-use trinket to further amplify our 2-minute burst damage. High priority.
- Storm-Eater's Boon - The uncontested best on-use trinket for AoE damage in Mythic+. High priority if you plan on playing a lot of Mythic+.
- Manic Grieftorch - While running two on-use can be a bit awkward, Grieftorch remains a very strong source of on-demand burst damage that can easy progression on certain bosses, and can sim as best in slot in certain gear configurations.
- Seal of Diurna's Chosen - With many different fire damage sources available to us, this Ring is a very strong choice even early on into the Season.
- Voice of the Silent Star - This cloak has a higher ilvl than other options and instead of Stamina, it provides a stat proc instead. Very powerful, although it might not be worth playing in Mythic+ if survival is an issue due to the lower max HP you have.
- Seal of Filial Duty - A good choice as it is a higher itemlevel ring with good stats.
BiS Gear for Assassination Rogue
With the sheer amount of gear available to you due to three separate Awakened Raids, creating an all-encompassing BiS list that fits every player is nigh impossible. BiS lists are in no way a replacement for simming yourself, and there are many different combinations of gear that end up simming within the margin of error, meaning there will be no notable difference in performance.
BiS List for Assassination Rogue
This list contains the highest DPS setup from all sources for Assassination Rogue
In some non-Tier slots, a 525 iLvl Craft is technically optimal, since you can customize the secondary stats to your liking and to get 2 embellished effects. A few 528 iLvl slots from Mythic Raid are the exception.
This list is by no means a replacement for simming yourself. Depending on your previous Great Vault choices and the gear you have available to yourself, your BiS gear might look different than this list in some spots.
This list includes a non-raid and non-Mythic+ item, Nick of Time which ends up being better than any 528 item level Offhand dagger by 0.4%. Since you can only farm this dungeon once a week, and the difference is fairly small, you may temporarily want to look toward any other offhand option.

The Importance of "Simming Yourself" as a Assassination Rogue
With all the different layers of gearing currently available to players, it is impossible to cover all edge cases and individual recommendations in a guide. We therefore highly recommend simming your own character by using Raidbots. This website allows for precise and individualized recommendations that consider your exact talents, gear, trinket, and all the other layers of gearing that the game has to offer. Learning to use this tool is essential to maximizing your potential, as it is the only reliable way to get information on which piece of gear, enchant, gem, or trinket is the best for your character.
Droptimizer
The Droptimizer feature from Raidbots lets you identify which dungeons and Raid Bosses offer the highest DPS upgrades to you. It simulates all of the potential upgrades in a raid or a dungeon and lists the bosses/dungeons by rank order of how much DPS you can expect to gain from each of the items it drops. We have a guide for it that you can access using the link below.
Flightstones and Crest Upgrade Recommendations
These are some of the items you should prioritize on upgrading as high as possible early into the season:
- Your Mainhand dagger.
- Powerful trinkets like Ashes of the Embersoul or Cataclysmic Signet Brand
- Items with a high stat budget, like your Chest, Helmet or Legs.
- Embellished Items with damaging procs like Toxic Thorn Footwraps.
These are not the only items worth upgrading, of course. They simply offer the highest DPS gain early into the tier when your upgrade currency is limited.
Season 4 Set - Amirdrassil, the Dream's Hope Tier Set
After Blizzard allowed players to vote on which tier set would be available in Season 4, Assassination ended up sticking with the tier set from Season 3: Rogue Assassination 10.2 Class Set 2pc and Rogue Assassination 10.2 Class Set 4pc
If given a choice, try to prioritize the Shoulder, Chest, Gloves, and Helmet slots for this. However, getting the Legs to complete one of the bonuses is still better than any other gearing choice.
Professions and Crafted Gear
Professions are a great way to gear up with your optimal secondary stats, as generating specific secondary stat combinations is now possible when adding special items to the crafting process. With the heavily reworked crafting system in Dragonflight, exploring the new professions will help you gear up throughout the expansion, as you will be able to craft some Mythic Raid item-level pieces further down the line.
If you want to find out more about professions, make sure to check out our Dragonflight Profession guide!
As your ability to craft items will be time-gated in the initial stages of Season 4, we highly recommend to get a Main Hand weapon as soon as possible, unless you can reliably get one elsewhere. Once you have a good weapon, work on Embellished Items next, and then craft whichever pieces you do not have high-item-level versions of yet.
Embellished Items
Up to two of your crafted items can be Embellished. This is a similar concept as Unique-Equipped, as you can only wear two items that have the Embellished status. Some crafted items, many of which have powerful procs or beneficial effects by default, are considered Embellished. You can also add Embellishments from a variety of professions to any crafted item, adding the effect to this item either when creating it or at a later stage.
As there is a lot of competition for Embellishments, you will have to pick and choose the two strongest ones for your overall DPS output. The two best choices for this are:
- A crafted item with Shadowflame-Tempered Armor Patch if you are using Seal of Diurna's Chosen.
- At least one Blue Silken Lining item, provided you have over ~50% uptime on the effect.
- Toxic Thorn Footwraps are still a solid alternative if neither of the previous choices are available to you, but they are no longer our go-to choice this season.
- Flaring Cowl for Mythic+.
Adding Sockets to Gear
You can add sockets to your necklace by using a Tiered Medallion Setting on it. Depending on the rank of the Medallion, you can add up to 3 sockets to any necklace you own.
You can also add sockets to Helmets, Belts, Bracers, Necks and Rings with a consumable you can get if you do not select any of the choices in your Great Vault. 6 of these tokens can be traded in for an item that allows you to add a socket to any piece of gear you acquired in Season 4.
Stat Priorities
Which gems and enchants to use heavily depends on your current stat priority. As previously mentioned, this priority can shift and change whenever you acquire new gear, so simming yourself to figure out the best use of your newly acquired socket is highly recommended. The general rule is to prioritize Critical Strike and Mastery on as many pieces of gear as possible, and prioritizing those stats for any consumables as well.
Best Trinkets for Assassination Rogue in Season 4
There are a number of good trinkets available for Assassination Rogue in Season 4, from a variety of different sources. Some relevant ones to look for are:
- Manic Grieftorch - A good second on-use that offers on-demand damage which can ease progression on certain encounters.
- Cataclysmic Signet Brand - A very strong passive trinket that also procs Seal of Diurna's Chosen.
- Ashes of the Embersoul - Our strongest on-use trinket to supplement our 2-minute burst.
- Whispering Incarnate Icon - A decent stat stick that can be very strong if multiple people in your group use it as well.
- Pip's Emerald Friendship Badge - A stat stick that has no conditions.
- Neltharion's Call to Suffering - Another good passive option, as the proc is very powerful.
- Irideus Fragment - The only other option for our on-use trinket to sync with our DPS cooldowns. Should be replaced for Ashes of the Embersoul as soon as possible.
