Season of Discovery Holy Paladin Healer Talents and Runes
On this page, you will find out the best PvE talents for your Holy Paladin Healer in WoW Classic — Season of Discovery, as well as advised runes.
Holy Paladin Talent Build
There are several different ways to distribute your Talent Points as a Holy Paladin, but the build listed above will yield you the best results in most PvE focused encounters. At 50, we recommend sticking to Holy as you will need almost all of your talent points to unlock Holy Shock. What you do with your talent points after Holy Shock is unlocked is largely up to personal preference. In group content it is often best to put the points into Improved Devotion Aura and Improved Blessing of Might to further bolster your party.
Recommended Rune Engravings
- Gloves — Beacon of Light
- Pants — Divine Sacrifice
- Chest — Horn of Lordaeron
- Waist — Sheath of Light
- Feet — Sacred Shield
- Helm — Fanaticism
- Wrist — Light's Grace
The Rune engraving for Beacon of Light is almost required due to the shear strength of being able to literally double your healing output and no other rune currently available will offer anywhere near the benefit.
The pants slot is a bit more flexible, though Divine Sacrifice is recommended, as it is useful at almost all times to reduce incoming damage on your group. This slot can easily be moved into Inspiration Exemplar if you find yourself on an encounter with a ton of fear/sleep effects and you are otherwise unable to dispel them or even Rebuke if you find yourself lacking in interrupts on an encounter that requires them. It is increasingly popular to choose Exorcist for this slot in a situation where you find yourself with downtime when healing, and this pairs exceptionally well with Purifying Power, reducing the cooldown of Exorcism by 50%.
The chest slot suffers mostly from a lack of great options. While Horn of Lordaeron will benefit your physical DPS party members, it does not offer much benefit to other healers or caster DPS. Divine Storm can be used in its place if you find yourself with downtime and want to help DPS down the mobs; be conscious of the Mana cost of this ability. Seal of Martyrdom is another strong consideration for this spot. If you find yourself struggling with Mana, but have time to melee attack, this will offer a considerable amount of Mana return.
For the waist slot, Sheath of Light is generally the best option as it is an easy buff to maintain, only requiring a melee attack once a minute to gain its benefits. While we are not actively stacking Attack Power as Holy Paladin, your character will naturally have some thanks to the Strength stat increasing as you level. The heal-over-time component of this also makes our critical strike rating even more valuable. Enlightened Judgements becomes much stronger in larger format content as abilities such as Seal of Light and Seal of Wisdom can do incredible amounts of healing and Mana return. In the current 10-man format of content they do not benefit the raid quite enough yet to warrant switching over to this Rune. Infusion of Light is a very fun alternative if you find yourself in a situation where you are focusing on dealing as much damage as possible and offensively using Holy Shock, but due to its Mana cost this can be difficult.
In the feet slot, Sacred Shield is an incredibly powerful buff to bolster an ally's survivability by granting them not only a shield, but a greater chance to be critically healed by Flash of Light and given a heal-over-time effect when critically healed. The other Runes in this slot are generally geared more towards other roles. Guarded by the Light can certainly be useful in specific situations where there are considerable amounts of downtime in a fight, but the reduced healing portion makes this difficult to use in most cases and we are not casting Holy Shock on cooldown so the benefits of The Art of War are mostly lost.
For your helm, Fanaticism is an incredible tool that synergizes incredibly with talents like Illumination and greatly increases not only out healing output but our mana regeneration thanks to the considerable Critical Strike increase. Light's Grace is another strong choice but with Flash of Light being our primary source of healing and the importance of mana regneration through Illumination, we will default to Fanaticism.
In the wrist slot Light's Grace is our default choice. While we do not cast a ton of Holy Lights the cast speed reduction can be incredibly useful in high damage situations where we are casting multiple Holy Lights back to back. Purifying Power can also be useful if you find yourself with a the free time to cast Exorcisms.
More Engravings are likely to come out as we reach higher level caps, so make sure to checkout our general Runes guide to get a better understanding of what all tools you have available to your Paladin.
Notable Holy Paladin Talents
The Holy tree is filled with great talents that not only bolster your healing output, but greatly increase your ability to sustain your Mana and bolster your party members strengths.
Healing Light increases the amount of healing done by the two abilities you will primarily be using, while incredibly simple this is a massive throughput increase for nearly nothing in exchange.
Illumination causes your critical Flash of Lights, Holy Lights and Holy Shocks to return Mana equal to the base cost of the ability, massively increasing the value of Critical Strike and turning it into a Mana Regeneration stat on top of already being a great increase of healing throughput.
Divine Favor is a 2-minute cooldown that causes your next healing ability to be a guaranteed Critical Strike. This can help in situations where a target is taking large amounts of damage and you need to quickly top them off and synergizes extremely well with Illumination and Sheath of Light.
Holy Shock is an instant cast healing and damaging ability that makes up for a massive hole in the Paladin arsenal, as your greatest weakness as a Paladin of any specialization of mobility. Having an instant cast you can use while moving or even just a quick burst of healing in an emergency can completely change an encounter.
