Flying Updates in Shadowlands Alpha 9.0.1 Build 34137

Recommended Posts

46689-pathfinder-removal-for-old-expansi

This week's Alpha build comes with further tweaks to flying in Shadowlands.

First, Blizzard announced that Draenor & Legion Pathfinder achievements will no longer be required for flying in the new expansion, which is great news for anyone who didn't like leveling in the zones because they haven't earned those achievements prior.

Instead, you will need to purchase Draenor Pathfinder & Broken Isle Pathfinder directly from flying trainers for 250 Gold, similar to Cold Weather Flying Cold Weather Flying in Mists of Pandaria.

Blizzard also removed Artisan Riding Artisan Riding, the 280% flying skill on Alpha, and currently, you can buy the following skills from flying trainers:

Faction discounts apply up to 20% at Exalted.

You will get the first 60% Riding Skill free at Level 10.

You can find a rundown of the latest updates on our Flying in Shadowlands page.

That's great that they're removing all the rep requirements from old content right after I finished grinding for months to get em all.

Really, it's fine. But if flying in Shadowlands areas is going to require new rep grinds I'm not resubbing.

I hate to be the one to tell you this but Shadowland Pathfinder has already been confirmed, unless they change it before launch there will be a expansion long grind like before. And I feel your pain about them removing the requirements, I spent over 200k gold upgrading heirlooms to 120 two weeks before they announced the new level cap will be 60 which would have made the base level 60 versions the new max fml 😞

It makes sense honestly. Who is going to do older content for a ridicilous amounts of time just so their alts can fly there?
Leaving BFA out of this is reasonable too as all fresh newbies are going to level up there automatically.
Now i am not playing devil's advocate here - having to level through new zones on foot CAN be a huge pain in the *filtered* but atleast you check out the new scenery. And since in Shadowlands i am going with Revendreth - i am going check out ALL OF IT.

Given the squish, the hierlooms thing is likely to have changed with it, so won't be wasted gold.

I prefer pathfinder over just buying for gold, but they could make it available right at the start of the expansion, for example pathfinder 1 in bfa could allow flying in zuldazar and boralus, then pathfinder 2 on mechangon and nazjatar. The rep "grind" doesn't take too much time as only revered required, ppl could explore the zones on foot as they want but still earn flying in reasonable time.

That's the reason I stopped buying heirloom upgrades the moment i saw the new level cap 😄 Thanks for the reminder I'll ask a friend to check out hearlooms on alpha.

Its great Pathfinder is being removed, it should have never been there to begin with. Flying should be part of the game. The way it was back in TBH and Wrath but updated of course. Like flying castles in the sky and stuff. Anyways though for the ppl that spent months grinding for Pathfinder in WOD and Legion I hope Blizz is at least kind enough to Honor those ppl in some way for the extra time and work spent grinding out Pathfinder during current content. A mount or cool transmog piece to those dedicated few would be just fine, I hope pathfinder is gone for good btw. good riddance.

I'm fine with a pathfinder requirement of visiting every area and finishing the main questline. I'm just sick of caring about reps for anything other than cosmetics and maybe some bonus crafting recipes. Especially if it's like BFA where you get like 75 rep for a world quest, even a rare one, and certain reps can only be raised with a couple of specific poorly designed minigames

I would really love for it to be like TBC where flying is part of the progression, used to reach the end game daily quest areas, and even integrated into some of the quests... Burning yourself out on the worst repetitive parts of the game before you can unlock flying isn't fun.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned anything about them already tbh. But I am sticking with my theory that they will match the new squished levels and will need upgrading still, but max to 50 for now.

Even by doing just emmissaries reaching you can reach the required revered reps really fast, i don't think it's a big deal. And you unlock it for the entire account. I'd pick this over spending a ton of gold on every alt.

Did you always get slightly upset when Pelagos and Kleia would mount up on those cool flying lion-looking mounts in the Bastion quests and you couldn't? Well now you can! The Silverwind Larion has been found, or rather the way to get him has, as you'll "just" need to collect 50 tiny Anima Shards in Bastion.

As Belivious677 pointed out, the WoW secret finding community has recently found the final 50th one, and you can find all their locations (and details on the hunt itself) in this google document, or they may have already been uploaded to the HandyNotes: Shadowlands addon as well (the creator put together the google doc as well), or they will be soon.

These aren't all of them so definitely check out the google doc for the full guide.
So once again, thanks to Belivious677 for pointing out the secret has been solved, to HandyNotes maker Zarillion for putting the search together and to the WoW secret finding discord for, well, finding the secret!

We have a very useful list/visual made by TempusSimian today, as they've taken a look at all the Covenant-related mounts you can acquire, and you don't even need to be in that specific Covenant for all of them (although you might need help from someone who is)! This isn't a definitive and final list, as TempusSimian has just researched the matter and the expansion is 2 days old, but it's very useful nonetheless! It's also a giant image so zoom in for the best results!

In terms of actually being able to ride the mounts when not in that specific Covenant, the non-Covenant specific section SHOULD be usable regardless of affiliation. Another thing to note: it's likely that after Shadowlands, all of the Covenant exclusive mounts will become available to everyone, as you won't be in your Covenant for the next expansion's content (presumably, at least). We can't be sure on that last one, but it's a safe/reasonable bet. Also, don't forget, you can swap Covenants if you're just after the mounts for your collection and mounts collected total number (so maybe one of your alts will be the Covenant traitor and go around collecting mounts)!

      Source.
So thanks a lot to TempusSimian for assembling this and hopefully it will aid you in your mount collecting journey!

It seems Blizzard are putting together some official info for new players, as we have a new trailer for new players and their adventure in Exile's Reach, as wel as the official Chromie Time guide/reminder to chekc out.

      Timewalking Campaigns (source)
Have you ever wanted to seamlessly explore the story in full for Wrath of the Lich King, Burning Crusade, or a different past expansion? Now you can fully immerse yourself in any expansion’s questlines (and earn level-appropriate loot and experience gains) with Timewalking Campaigns! Once you reach level 50 on any character on your account, any 10 to 49 level characters can use Timewalking Campaigns to choose an expansion for their leveling experience. To do so, interact with the Hero’s Call Board located in Stormwind’s Trade District or Orgrimmar’s Warchief’s Command Board in the Valley of Strength and select “Chromie’s Call.” From here, you’ll be pushed a quest, “Adventurers Wanted: Chromie’s Call” which will lead you to Chromie who awaits adventurers near the Stormwind Embassy to the north-west of the Dwarven District or the Orgrimmar Embassy in the southern-most area of The Valley of Spirits. After meeting with Chromie, you’ll be able to pick a campaign from any past expansion which will scale to your level.
Now just select a campaign, and you’re ready for adventure! Simply follow the new quest pushed to you and travel to the destination listed in the quest’s objective. From there you’ll be able to explore the expansion content as you choose, and can even stay within the content for the entirety of your level-up experience.
      Exploring Dungeons
While using the Dungeon Finder (hotkey: I), you'll be offered dungeons for your selected timeline to keep the exploration of the zone’s story intact. However, if you join a group and different characters have chosen different timelines, you'll be able to enter the queue for dungeons from any timeline represented by the party. If the queue for dungeons within the timeline you’ve chosen takes too long to find a suitable group, you’ll be offered to expand the search to other timelines.
Timewalking Campaigns are available for you to use as soon as your character reaches level 10 or completes the new starting experience, Exile’s Reach. Now, go forth in your journey—your future is waiting for you in the past!

Forlorn's Grace is a buff obtained at the Court of Harvesters in Revendreth that increases your damage instead of decreasing it as it says on the tooltip, resulting in a +10% damage buff.
Rextroy made a short video on a buff that's supposed to decrease your damage done by 2% per stack, but instead, it increases it on live servers.
The buff stacks up to 5 times, resulting in a 10% damage buff. Rextroy hopes this will get fixed before Castle Nathria opens.
Rextroy also made a short video about the buff that you can watch below.
