City of Dalaran Boss Strategy

City of Dalaran has eight bosses, with one of them being a special boss that requires an item from another dungeon.

Atrexis the Grave Knight
Atrexis is the first boss in City of Dalaran, found in the middle of the sewers area. As first bosses usually are, Atrexis is a very simple encounter, with his only abilities of note being a Disarm on the tank, and the ability to summon non-Elite skeletons. Biggest thing DPS players will need to do here is watch their threat to not risk getting killed by the skeletons.
Lyn the Ignored
Lyn the Ignored is a special boss that can be summoned if you have the Tome of Dalaran Icon Tome of Dalaran, which requires a Shadowfang Keep run.
How to Summon Lyn the Ignored (Click to Show)How to Summon Lyn the Ignored (Click to Hide)
  • · In Shadowfang Keep, after defeating Archmage Arugal, you can climb onto the platform where he was standing, and pick up the Black Tome Icon Black Tome from a table on his platform.
  • · With the Black Tome in hand, head to Ambermill in Silverpine Forest. Inside the Inn building, you will find the Ambermill Leyline Focus, a blue crystal sitting on top of a table. Use the Black Book while standing near the Focus to turn it into the Tome of Dalaran Icon Tome of Dalaran.
  • With the Tome of Dalaran, head into the area at the end of a corridor on the far right of the Sewers area, you will find purple runes on the ground at the end of the docks area. Use the Tome of Dalaran there to summon the boss.

Lyn's primary ability is a Shadow Bolt Volley that cannot be interrupted and must be healed through. The Shadow Bolt Volley can be especially punishing when combined with Curse of Thorns, a curse effect that deals damage when you attack something (make sure to decurse it if able!).
In addition to these, Lyn can summon skeletons just like Atrexis, so continue watching out your threat, especially with AOE attacks.
Arcane Anomaly
The Arcane Anomaly can be found in the Krasus Landing area on the surface level of the dungeon.
His most dangerous ability is his Focal Blast, which summons an arcane cutter that rotates counterclockwise around his room. Don't get caught by it, because it will kill you.
As you rotate around the boss's room, make sure to stay near the center, not only because it makes the arcane cutters easy to dodge, but because the Arcane Anomaly summons adds on the edges of the room.
The tank will also be pelted with Arcane Bolts every so often, these can and should be interrupted.
Mana Devourer
The Mana Devourer can be found in the Violet Hold area on the surface level of the dungeon. Before pulling the boss, make sure to clear all mobs in the area, as they will pull together with the boss.
The Mana Devourer fight is more or less a race, as the boss will cast Debilitate every ~50 seconds, dealing damage and draining 200 mana of your entire group. You must kill the boss before your healer, or the rest of your group, runs out of mana. In addition to this, he will periodically attack the tank with Drain Vitality, dealing Arcane damage over time.
Fel Ancient
The Fel Ancient can be found in the central area of the surface level of the dungeon.
He has a couple of mechanics that can be deadly if they overlap: His Entangle roots two targets and deals periodic Nature damage. His other ability, Fel Timbers, spawns a poison pool on the ground targetted at someone. Someone can die really fast if they're caught under a Fel Timbers pool while entangled, so make sure you save any root breaking abilities such as Blessing of Freedom Icon Blessing of Freedom to deal with it.
Unstable Sentinel
The Unstable Sentinel can be found on the northern end of the surface level of the dungeon, by the profession buildings. Before pulling the boss, make sure to kill any Angry Tomes, as these will spawn from the buildings surrounding the boss.
The Unstable Sentinel has only one ability of note, but a very deadly one. Every so often, it will Malfunction, dealing heavy damage to anyone who stands within 25 yards of it. Ranged players and healers can avoid this mechanic entirely by staying near max range, but melee players should run away from the boss to avoid taking too much damage.
Arcanic Enigma
The Arcanic Enigma can be found near the area with the Antonidas statue, on the northeastern portion of the surface level of the dungeon.
The boss is always accompanied by two Mana Phantoms. The Mana Phantoms should die first, as they have a nasty mana burn.
The Arcanic Enigma himself has a few problem abilities: First, he periodically casts an AOE silence on players near him, so any ranged/heals need to stay near max range to avoid the mechanic. The second ability of note is his Manamorph, which should be dispelled by anyone with the ability to remove Magic effects. The boss also consistently summons manaling add that must be picked up by the tank, but these can be easily cleaved down and shouldn't prove too much of an issue.
Shade of the Archmage
The Shade of the Archmage is the last boss in the dungeon, located in the Violet Citadel area. You can talk with Archmage Modera at the bottom level of the Violet Citadel, who will open a portal that leads you to the area where the Shade of the Archmage can be engaged.
He will constantly spam the tank with Arcane Bolts, as well as cast Arcane Explosions. Ranged players and healers can stay near max range to avoid the Arcane Explosion. The Shade's most dangerous ability is his Bounding Mana, which will target a player with an arcane projectile. Make sure everyone is spread out enough and dodge Bounding Mana when it happens.
In addition to this, the Shade of the Archmage does use Mana for all his abilities. If he ever runs out of Mana, he will Mass Polymorph everyone in your group, use Evocation to fully regenerate his Mana, then continue the fight as usual.
